Frankie was one of the 1st Drummers I saw that was endorsed by Sabian Cymbals back in 1983 or 1984, they may have been around years prior but he was the 1st player that I recall used Sabian, also saw Frankie in 1984 in Quiet Riot at the Oakland Coliseum Arena, with Whitesnake and Kick Axe as openers, and I was very impressed with Frankie's playing, he definitely had that heavy Bonham groove, incredible Laser show QR had on their Condition Critical tour. RIP Frankie !!!

It could be a good job, but the original song has triplets on the Bass Drums. Without those it isn't

I just watched his memorial service today. His daughter spoke at it and one of the things she says was that her dad hit the drums like they owed him money. I’d say she was right on on that one! What a beast of a drummer. And an incredible human being taken way too early.

That single tom kit fad looks like schitt. Everybody plays em. I started playing hair guitar in 1985, so the 9 piece double bass kit was the minimum. I guess drum aesthetics are no longer important. Big drums, lots of cymbals everywhere, and even the huge racks were cool. Current fads are g@y as f.

Pat Travers Band. Late 70s, early 80s. With Pat Thrall on lead and Mars Cowling on bass. And TA!!!!!!! Holy fuck! Saw them headline with some nobodys. Bunch of teenage kids we hoped would do a quick set and just get the fuck out da way. Def Leppard. OMFG. One incredible night.

One very stellar part tommy, also scott travis, true double bass triplets, designated/separate bass pedals. Single double bass speed pedals/cookie cutter path that sounds bunk. Lynch's mr scary stellar tract, but when single speed double bass drummers entered tract, cookie cutter evolution.

I was at this show. Zebra would come up to NY in the late 70's from N'awlins and play the circuit under CTA Management. I have no recollection of my first time seeing them, because I caught them so many times. It may have been The Rising Sun? Not sure. I spoke with Guy after this Westbury show and we reminisced about Hammerheads, Glenn Island Casino, OBI, Madhatter, Happy Daze, Lamours, Soap Factory, Detroit clubs back in the old days. Those were special times for me. I'm still waiting for Zebra 5!

He breaks a stick at around 4:05...tosses the broken stick out into the audience, keeps on playing, never misses a beat...the man is a drumming MONSTER!!!

I'm a 61yearold st Louisin iluvit!

Way back in the day, I was working with a seismograph crew near Hammond, Louisiana. That's in the New Orleans area. We went to an upstairs bar where there was a crowd of people partying and listening to a band named Zebra. They had probably been playing for a couple of hours because it was around 10 maybe 11 when we walked in. They soon began playing Kashmir and I thought, wow this is a good local group. They sound almost like the real deal. I say local, because I'd never even heard of Zebra and that's the thought that struck me, knowing that New Orleans wasn't your ordinary Louisiana town. I have a cousin near there that plays guitar. He won a Black Gibson Custom Les Paul guitar with 3 gold pickups and hardware in a battle of guitar player contest. Today that very guitar model sells for 50 grand. But knowing how crime ridden New Orleans is, the guitar was ripped off overnight at a club there where he was playing. Anyway, I was impressed by Zebra and their sound. They took a break and I noticed their front man, Randy sitting alone having a drink at the bar. He seemed to be a rather quiet and to himself person and that's cool too. But the urge struck me to walk over and have a short chat with him. I say hey man what's up? He nodded and said hello. I told him that I'd never seen his band before and complimented him on their sound and music. He broke into a subdued smile or grin said thanks man. I said, I noticed that you sing pretty damn high with your voice, and I asked him, how do you make your voice do that? I said show me one time. He sorta straightened himself, drew a short breath and let out a noise, like a high pitched crow, or bird like sound. And he did it a couple of times to get across his method. And he said, like that. I tried it but instantly noticed that my call wasn't up to snuff with his. He didn't sound absolutely perfect wth it but I got the idea. Anyway he was a cool mellow dude and I enjoyed his acknowledgement of my curiosity. They were a very talented group, maybe beyond so many groups that made a name in rock history. But even though, they didn't get picked up and promoted by a huge label that I know of. Have you ever thought about the ones that made it so big, and how even Elvis was rejected by some big names. It just happens for the relative few that get the connection. You get introduced to the right producer by a special person that he doesn't want to snub or disappoint. He takes a chance on you. To his joy and relief in rolls the cash until the ride is over. Zebra definitely had the talent but it wasn't what the big guys were wanting to hook up. ❤

Blas is such a good drummer. I saw Slaughter back in 1990 when they opened for Kiss and couldn't believe how good he was.
