- So called conflict diamonds coming into the market is virtually unheard of in 2024, thanks to the Kimberley Process, etc. - I really don't think that removal of dirt qualifies as a big environmental concern. Our whole world moves around vast amounts of dirt for projects daily. Any environmental issues with diamond mining is nothing compared to all the other mining industries. - The jewellery industry has jumped onto the lab grown diamonds bandwagon because, despite their lower price, the margins are better and they know they'll make more profit than with the thin margins with naturals. - Naturals, diamond or other gems, will always be more valuable. Anyone who has studied diamonds even a little bit know that value comes from rarity - and that applies to the '4 Cs' and how proper jewellery quality diamonds are rare and the best of those are orders of magnitude rarer. People will always treasure something that has a story behind it (hundreds of millions of years to produce from hundreds of miles below the surface) and the story of how some very very rich corporations and 1-percenters bought machinery to poop out diamonds in a week is not a very compelling story. - As far as I'm concerned, labs have their place as starter diamonds for younger people - especially those faced with insane housing prices in this day and age. Once they get established and are successful in life, they can upgrade to a natural to get something they would would be proud to pass on through the family generations.

(online and in person), is there a way to protect the designs? Say allow for personal use but not for commercial or sell commercial license depending on the conditions. Nowadays though it can be hard to track who was the first to make the design unless maybe there is a blog/vlog post with a concrete date and some ideas can come to different people.
