Homesteading City-Style
OUR STORY
We live in the city of LaPlace, 25 miles west of New Orleans, La. We live in 1000 square-foot home and have a city-size lot, about 1/8 acre. Though we desire to move and get more land, for now, we are learning homesteading on a small scale, and how to grow and raise food for our family in the city on a city-size lot. We currently raise quail, chickens, and fish. We grow plenty of veggies in our small area, all in elevated garden beds and containers. We have made many mistakes along the way but we're learning every day how to become more and more self-sufficient. We have 26 fruit trees and 18 berry bushes that provide us with food every year. We currently produce quail and chicken for our consumption. We are always looking for ways to add to our homestead. It's an exciting journey for us and we invite you to tag along and hopefully, together we can learn more. Thanks for subscribing and sharing our videos.

Our meetings are usually Friday pm-Sunday am. We have a meeting on Friday night, then we get started Saturday morning with teachings that will transform your life. At lunch time we usually go out and eat and do street ministry by doing hands on training , teaching you to how to heal the sick and how to flow in miracles, signs and wonders! We then wrap up Saturday evening with more teaching and a Q and A session. Sundays are optional.

OUR STORY
We live in the city of LaPlace, 25 miles west of New Orleans, La. We live in a 1100 square foot home and have a city size lot, about 1/8 acre. We've (Cary and Mindy) raised our 3 daughters here and 1 daughter is still here with us (Cara), she has down syndrome and will remain with us. My other 2 daughters are married and we have 7 granddaughters between the 2. Though we desire to move and get more land, for now we are learning on a small scale how to grow and raise food for our family in the city on a city size lot. We have committed every square inch of our backyard and a portion of our front yard to growing and raising food. We grow plenty of vegetables in our small area, mostly in elevated garden beds and containers. We are learning to can and preserve our harvest. Mindy now makes all our bread from scratch. Potatoes have become one of our favorites to grow and can. We have a 9'x10' greenhouse which is overcrowded, but it's something we need and use all the time, and also 2 shade houses which help extent our seasons for growing and producing more food. We have made many mistakes along the way, and we don't claim to know it all, but we're learning everyday how to become more and more self-sufficient. We currently have 21 fruit trees and 15 berry bushes that provide us with food every year. We make all our jellies and preserves with our berries. We're hoping to move soon but we will still continue to make plans as if we're not moving. Waiting to move before we do anything is not an option. If something happens and we never get to move we are using what we have, no excuses, to become more self-sustaining. We have plans to raise rabbits for meat and profit, also making plans to raise 2 pigs. We currently reproduce quail and chickens for our consumption and for profit. We are always finding ways to add to our homestead, like collecting rainwater for watering our plants, but also plan on filtering rainwater for our consumption. Solar is also something we're learning about. We are currently and for the past 12 years have a successful aquaponics system set up where we raise fish and grow lettuce, bok choy and celery. We are currently running the aquaponics pumps on solar. Bee keeping is also in the works, we had a hive that swarmed, and we lost our bees, but we plan on starting a horizonal hive for 2023. It's an exciting journey for us and we invite you to tag along and hopefully together we can learn more. Thanks for subscribing and sharing our videos.

Id love to see this grill in use
I like all the details, beautiful
Thank you, I love fermemtation videos. I feel that most Americans have unhealthy guts, myself included even though I am trying to change that. There is a channel on youtube that is so good about teaching about ferments. The channel is Clean Food Living. You may want to check her out. She even goes over the different fermenting lids and which ones are her favorites. I have a set like the one you are using today. But I am kind of leery about using it because the spring is metal and I do not know how well it will hold up to the acidic environment of a ferment. I have used it once without any ill effects. But you could use the lids with the glass weights instead of the springs. May your ferment be very successful. Take care and God Bless.
Looking forward to seeing your new homestead! Happy New Year!
My daughter and her husband are looking for land too. I am invited to join them so I will be selling my house also. See ya out there!
Always nice to have extra help! Happy New Year!
Happy new year!
Father God, Hallowed be Thy Name, You are Holy, Righteous and lover of Your man. Father, I come into agreement with Brother Cary and Sister Mindy that the doors will open for them to move forward to find a new property. Father I pray that the property that You choose will fall into place and that they will know that it is Your will for them to move on it. I thank You for what you are doing and what You are about to do in their lives. May Your sweet peace fall upon them mightily. I asked in Jesus' Name. Amen.
Thank you Phyllis for your prayers , they are definitely felt here, Happy and blessed new year to you and your family !!!
My Ruby Supreme Guava just arrived yesterday, It arrived with 2 very small Fruits on the lower part of the Trunk -- I was very surprised, it also arrived with a Hitch Hiker, a small baby Gecko jumped out the box when i opened it, turned her loose in the Green House where its should keep warm till Spring -- HAPPY GROWING :)

YOur birds and garden are looking good! Glad to see an update!
I was able to make a few jars but not as much as I wanted to. Looks good!
Thx Kathleen, hope everything’s going good for you, I’m sorry, I haven’t been on CZcams at all for a while. 😟
I could not figure this out! After you demonstrated it it was simple. Thank you. Two years out and your You Tube video is still helping people!
I bought one of these. It's been the worst thermostat I've ever purchased. The difference between the 2 channels are rediclous. One works perfectly the other won't turn off until it hits over 100 plus degrees F.
My question is it ok if you pick okra and it starts drying can you still give it to the chickens?
I believe so - I haven’t done it bc I always pick it and feed it to the chickens before it dries out
I ended up forgetting about some okra and it started getting hard and chickens wanted no part of it lol so I took it all strung it up to finish drying and saved seeds.. 🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
Thanks for the info.. I did the same on sweet potatoes because my sweet potatoes won’t stop growing slips.. so we going to see how it works.. my sunflowers didn’t do so well this year.. I was heartbroken.. I’m new at all this.. second year on gardening and first year on chickens.. ❤
great way to use the entire plant! I need one of those grinders!
Thx Kathleen, hope everything’s going good for ya!
Hey I finally got around to recording that plant I think you gave me It’s on the bike video 2:00 minute mark .. is it the same plant?
I sure enjoyed watching the garden tour nice birds you have I love collection the rain ☔☔ water 💦💦
Your back yard garden is amazing!
Thx Kathleen
I like the garden 🪴 ❤
Have you ever saved tomato seeds. I have seen some videos where they put the seeds in water and let them sit for 2 to 3 days. I was just wondering if you have saved any and if so, how did you go about saving them. I do believe we all need to be doing something, like growing vegetables, fruits, etc. But, I think that what we really need to be doing is praying and taking the authority that was granted to us by Jesus Christ our Lord. Our difficulties are coming from strongholds that most do not even know exist. There are 2 things needed at this time, prayer and getting prepared.
I haven’t yet but I may try it this year - we’re all doing good thx for asking - I’m actually doing a whole lot better and getting better everyday thx to the gifts of healing - grounding - it’s incredible what it doing to my body -
The little chicks are so cute. I have a few baby geese coming in this week. I hope all is going well with you and the family. Take care and God Bless.
Awh lol 😊 that baby wore they self out n fell asleep 7:05
Hey, you gave me a piece of oregano 🌿 and it eventually “died” ... and I think it actually came back to life but I’m not sure lol .. what kind of oregano was it and is the stem purple with thick fuzzy green leaves?
That was Cuban Oregano
Cant wait to see them hatch!
2 more days
Looks like you had a good day fishing!
That looks so delicious!
I'm picking quail eggs today for the first time thanks so much for the video
hello from Alberta Canada
Hello Alberta Canada !!!
I posted this video to my facebook, I hope it will bring in some new subscribers. I find it amazing that you started talking about dehydration because I have had it on my mind often here lately. If you could give instructions on what or how to combat it, would be very much appreciated. Do all citrus trees have thorns?
Thanks for sharing!!
