In my opinion bakura is not actually a villain and you will understand it in the last episodes he wanted to take revenge from atem because he thought atem's dad destroyed his town(it's actually atem's uncle)

Author said (before he himself died) that Bonz and his gang was released from shadow realm at some point before the final duel between Yugi and Atem but he just totally forgot about them that’s why they didn’t appear again in the show
author said that they died, because 4kids created the shadow realm to censor the deaths, dumbass
Shadow realm literally DOES NOT EXIST in the original version of the manga/anime and was added to the english dub as a replacement for death.
