Did I get ripped off and scammed with my solar panels? According to the comments on my recent solar panel video, where I compared a Tesla Solar Roof to my more modular solar panel system, I surely did get scammed and ripped off. … but did I? The critical comments really boiled down to 5 basic issues, so let’s take a closer look at those one by one. Are solar panels worth it or are they a scam ... and did I get ripped off?

And I don’t even have gas. I don’t think gas is a better experience. I just see a more rounded view of the different aspects of each technology. I only give gas the edge in its usability if the power is out. None of the other aspects of gas are better than electric. And I would love induction. But your video was so bias it’s irritating to me.

In California panels can only generate when the grid is on, so only the battery works in a blackout, and doesn't charge the battery in a blackout. Is that how yours are? Do you see any likelihood of that changing?

The reason why few people choose solar panels or solar roofs is because of an easy calculation. How many years of electricity bills can be paid for a cost of $100,000? This money is enough to pay for more than 30 years of electricity bills.

Want to bypass a lot of the red tape? Don't tie your panels to the grid. Charge your batteries and use them as your primary source of electricity and only use the grid when the batteries are low. I can put anything I want on my roof and I don't need any permits. If the energy generated never leave my house, no permits either. This method won't make our electricy bill go to 0, but it will be close enough for me.

Dumbest tittle I found today. Literally any home is good now . Just some of us played Minecraft better then other”: . Some people like bricked ,cement , mud , plastic , steel or even simply Cotten . Now built incorrectly ( which happens alot especially cutting corners )does exist but like anything different locations decide if your place is good at all to exist to begin ( why build in a tornado valley that has been recorded to have tornados 🌪️ before even being born ). Anyways long term in the USA id prefer because I can build a bunker underground ,gather rain water ,have guns and have multiple other locations owned (outside of usa as well ) then other places . Yes I get the video is talking about grades and making it follow the blueprint which is a rule as a standard should be a standard in the USA . But naa face reality we’re picky with everything including the people we talk to so doubt anything will ever meet each others standard’s .

No better than Ted Benson or Matt Risinger to put the point on what makes for a solid, energy efficient home. Both have been through it all for years and know that our construction codes are just the minimums for building a solid home. IF we took the subsidies, we give fossil fuel companies away and let fuel prices rise, we could move that money into renewables and helping people migrate into the all-electric lifestyle. And do some good for our planet in the process.

I think people forget how much money you are making. Sure, for most individuals your solar cost is high, but if they were in your shoes making the income you make; it’s not a huge cost. Guessing you also write off a big portion for your CZcams biz. Could also be that most people have no idea how much your brand/channel/sponsors bring in. While you are not Bezos, you are certainly not just middle class either. You have earned it, hard work, consistency, dedication, and very good/concise content. But people would probably “get it”, if they had some idea of your income . Great video BTW, most folks including myself would also “get scammed”, if income allows it. I’d much rather pay someone to install solar if I had the money to do so.

They also "spent" $9 billion over what they were approved, who do you think will pay for that? Wake up, get solar, question everything, nothing is what it seems.

As for the amount of Sun to the area doesn't say anything for being a scam! If you know you live in a low sun area then you have to buy more solar panels to get the same amount of wattage as some one in a Higher sun level area. solar panels will take watts from nearly any level of light getting to them, If you need more power then install more panels to get that amount you need. If you want to get more from your Panels don't convert it to AC power, Use it as a heat source straight from the DC voltage then there is no loss in conversion to the AC, You lose 30% in that conversion and charging of Batteries. Homes needing heat would be the best use of the DC power straight from the batteries by using Sand Battery technology.

I’m one of those people who live on 1/10 acre, in suburban NW Oregon. My backyard is a pretty windy area, but it’s definitely dirty wind. But part of the factor there are the mature trees in my and my surrounding neighbors’ yards. And these oaks, red cedars, and Douglas pines create a lot of debris from summer through early winter. My concern would be how that would affect a turbine. I have a hard enough time keeping my second story gutters from becoming gardens, so what sort of maintenance would these smaller turbines require (ie. cleaning or debris causing breakage)?

I am very skeptical. The useable resolution of analog is limited by the noise in a circuit. I suspect a standard digital floating point number provides a great deal more accuracy than an analog line. Analog levels also can't be stored with any accuracy. As for power, digital CMOS is extremely low power by virtue of limiting the time spent in an analog state. Analog is inherently more power-consuming than switched-state logic. I love analog circuitry, and it offers simplicity in a dedicated circuit. I would love to see Analog programmable devices similar to an FPGA for Analog, but I don't see analog ever being used for general computing. Always a niche-application.

Idk man, this value doesnt make sense, even at 200 a month of paying for electricity, after 40 years you would pay $96000 in electric bills which is still $11K away from a break even. If you install this at 40 years old , there is a chance you will literally die before you see your value. Still not cheap enough. Not many people stay in a home for over 40 years and those that do probably dont have children or no contributing individuals in their homes, which means their avg bill is less than 200 a month. Value isnt adding up , unless you are investing in your legacy in that your grandchild will live in this home many years after your death. And I may be wrong but both of you guys look like you are over 40 years old.

I once read about how solar panel installer, burden the energy company grids in German many years ago, because it disbalance their generators operation during day and night time. In China, the energy company is state owned, they might have a way to cope with the problem. Battery and solar panel technology is advancing at rapid pace. Australia even already planned some big ass battery center. So i think, some giant solar parks, will be able to function quite well depends on its sheer size and energy generation. Say less about environment impact, it's an empty talk, when there's some countries (you know who) have hundreds of dozen nuclear warhead standby the wholetime at ready status, to obliterate the whole earth at any moment.

A lot of this depends on what you value. From a purely financial standpoint, solar _could_ make sense depending on your location and utility rates and projected increases over time - along with tax credits or net-metering plans available (or not). My father lives in Southeast Alabama - his electric rates work out to about $0.09/kWh - which is well below the national average. While I think he _could_ come out ahead with a DIY solution, not with typical national professional installers. When I lived in Florida, it made a lot more sense since my rate was closer the national average of $0.16/kWh. Right now, I'm in Colorado, and still makes some sense but not the no-brainer it was in Florida. While we have more sunshine than Florida, the utility rate is only $0.14/kWh in my area. The other issue is that interest rates have gone up a lot, making the move less desirable if you need to finance. Paying cash is certainly worth it, but not many folks have $45k for a solar project. For myself, I went with the higher interest rate option with the idea of treating it like a car loan and paying it off as quickly as possible - if I had chosen a lower interest rate, it would have been an extra $15k. Of course, if you are adding solar for environmental reasons and/or for a whole home backup (battery) - those are different things to consider. For me, these are additional benefits that I personally value and, thus, are worth the extended time for financial break even. There are scammy aspects to solar because, like everything else, not all installers are honest or provide a fair estimate. Also, I would stay away from power purchase agreements (PPA) - which are often marketed as a "zero-cost" solar installation although you are just renting panels - so, to me that is pretty scammy. Sorry, there is no free lunch. Also, most installers offer a deceptively low interest rates. Basically, you're pre-paying interest - like buying down points on a mortgage - but that's not how it is explained most times. That feels pretty scammy, unless they provide all the options and explain what's going on. Installing solar is betting the cost of electricity will go up over time, which is a pretty safe bet - but some installers also inflate that figure too. Also, you need to plan to be in the home long enough to see the return on investment. In spite of what installers will tell you, PPAs and pending loans can _very much_ impact your home's resell value or at least provide a negotiation point for buyers - especially if you are a motivated seller. Just ask any real estate agent. Solar panels are only an asset if they are paid off - period. For the best results, do your own research before reaching out to any installers. Get 3-5 quotes before committing (same as any large project) - make sure they are sizing the system the same way and similar components (batteries or not?). Make sure they have a long warranty to cover the panels, any possible roof damage, and an output guarantee. Also, check with your home insurance company to see how adding panels might impact your rates or coverage - _some_ companies have issues with these (my policy does not).

Musk should know better than to think it is that easy. Desert creatures will flourish in the shadows of the panels and are provided a cooler habitat.

I would like the waste and maintaining costs

The costs are much lower than with fossil fuel plants and the panels can be recycled.

@@old-pete whats about recycling? You know that materials in solar are chemically toxic and have no half-life. Not to forget that you have to replace them every 20 years.

@@JohnSmith-gu9glThere are multiple procedures for recycling. One can make new wafers from old ones and that saves the majority of the invested energy, 80% with some procedures. Solar panels can easily run for 40 years. One can even use them longer, but newer models are just more profitable by then.

Let China do it, why bother, it's their own money. Should it become the money pit, the rest of the world would've been thankful, China is there to be the first to bear the grunt from testing the water. Nothing bad will be happen also, if China is successful in their solar endeavor, the rest of the world shall witness how it best done, learn by example, or even tweak it. We now live in a world where a couple country that holds oil reserves, giant oil company and massive spot traders sway the oil price anytime they want. At one point of time, it can turn as low as 50$/ barrel, another time it spiked to over 100$/barrel (highest record is 140$) Now China goes a whole new route, to pave new road for new energy source other than oil and coal or nuclear. Let them be. Now imagine if the solar panel system works, it can certainly make the oil price stable, because there's alternative, like solar panel and EV vehicle. Hundred of millions ICE vehicle out there would still be operating, oil will still be mined and consumed, can't just cast aside those hundred of billions industry away. I think, Solar and EV by at least will make gas more affordable or have less fluctuation that will harmfull to economy.

I don't trust anty solar companies. I get a phone call almost everyday from different solar companies. This tells me that there's too many companies and not enough business and most of them are going to fold long before your solar system is paid for. The fact that so many of them call from fake numbers tells me that most of them are scams. I've had people come to my door and point out the telephone pole in front of my house which is owned by the power company I was told that because that pole is getting old that I would have to pay for its replacement by one of their salespersons 😂. These people will tell anyone anything to get you to purchase their product and leave you high and dry if it fails or they go bankrupt. I would never purchase anything from one of their door to door salesmen or fake scam calls.

I want a tesla solar roof, But the dominos dont work here ! 1)HOA wont allow shiny roofs. 2) the cost of grid power is about 11 cents kwh. 3) the local grid company doesnt do favorable payback plan. 4) my roof is 50 square but very broken up in shapes and angles. 5) being retirees we have set income and the prices are overwhelming! Having been a roofer 40 yrs would help normally but not here! thanks for your videos! They're fun to watch and have good fair amount information!

They are even worth it in Scotland. For at least half of the year all my electricity is free I even sell some back to the grid.

It's amazing how you can produce an entire video on solar cells without mentioning China even once.
