As a swedish speaking Finn I squealed a little bit when I saw the thumbnail for this one :D I love it, such a cute idea to do a moominhouse birb feeder <3
Nice technic! I'm new in pottery so it's very helpful, will try it. p.s. I'm russian and unfortunately I can understand words in this song...
This is great thank you. Bonus is the US link for Blick is just down the street so weekend project it is.
Thats just beautiful!
😍🤩💥👌👏👏👏✨️⚘️🪷🌺💖
Zie angstlos, Mia. Great finish!
Are throwing rooms generally humid? You mentioned a drying room. I have a problem with my clay drying out in progress. And BTW, I'm in my 70s and never did get The Rone. 😮
Yesss. Loved this. More production making for sale videos please including how you price each piece. Thank you ❤
Excellent track ❤
Damn Mia, I suffered with you through all the process! You did so great, seriously! Congrats haha :D

The topic on temperatures was interesting and new to me. The consequences of wrong glaze/clay temperatures was fascinating & useful. I suspect the topic is a little deeper. It would also be good to know what other ranges there are (you mention cone 6) and what results those give. When browsing a variety of pottery I see some are left bare / non-glazed. I was curious if this is hygienic for food/drink usage. I’ll make notes on the stages of fires clay too. You mention Bisque, then …. (Finished?). It would be good to know what other terms potters use too. Like “ceramic”. And ‘stoneware’ clay and glaze - must the terminology match, or can you get other types of glaze within the same temperature range? Dipping glaze being powder in liquid - that’s fascinating. Does that not dry quickly and allow transporting soon; or ways to lay them down? Safety. Love to know what more you need in your studio. And special air extraction systems? Do your hands suffer from touching wet clay all day? Do you protect them? Great information. Thanks.
The birds give it a thumbs up!❤
Patience and persistence= Great job 👍
Im so excited to try this
You are fortunate having so much space and the flexibility to modify it to your needs. I have a small 2nd floor atelier which has awkward limitations. But I manage, and try to focus on unusual designs and techniques. Love your videos and candor.
Thanks for sharing ! I fantasize about creating a community pottery some day.
For drainage, would a hole cut into the bowl with a screen affixed be an option? That would solve the liquid problem at least.
Dear Mia, could you please make a Slab building template for some eggholders? That would be so great! Love your ceramics and your style! ❤️🙂
I’ve got to get a few spare buckets. I’m using a system a lot like this one, which I viewed in the past & implemented in my pottery space. The clean water that I’m able to separate goes into a clean/washed kitty little jug. My daughter saves them for me. I keep four or five of them filled in my studio space because I don’t have running water in or near the shed. Usually I fill three of them from the outside faucet at the back of our house. Thankfully I know our yard well enough that even with my significant sight loss, I’m able to drive my little electric cart to & from the faucet so I don’t have to physically carry them. I have a separate cleaned kitty littler jug that is specifically used to pour off the clean water then when the jug is full, I take it over to my vegetable garden and/or the space where I’ve planted ornamentals. It’s most used in the ornamentals because I have a drip irrigation system run through my vegetable garden. Since I’m not glazing at present, I don’t need a glaze waste system. If were able to build the 12ft x 12ft (or 12ft x 14ft) pottery studio building, that’ll change.
What type of cloth do you use to cover your pots? I have duck cloth but it is too thick & stiff. I’ve seen other potters online using the same cloth you have but I just don’t know what kind it is. Currently, I’m using up a roll of super cheap thin plastic drop material. It isn’t that great to use for overnighting my pots. I don’t remember if you’ve been to the US. I’m in North Carolina, about two hours inland. Summers get very hot & humid. Last year my husband whittled out a little space in our metal shed. It’s a space I share with the backup riding lawnmower & a rather large generator that we use whenever we lose power, which is generally during hurricane season & sometimes in the winter if we happen to get an ice storm that takes out the power lines (either from heavy ice freezing on the lines or someone running into them after skidding on ice). Both are underneath a heavy plastic to protect them from clay dust. I’ve got a window unit air conditioner & a gas heater. It is our hope to build a 12ft x 12ft (or a 12ft x 14ft) building just for my pottery. I don’t usually run the air conditioner or the heater when I’m not actively working in the building, although, I probably should. I don’t have a kiln yet. I’ve been keeping a check online with the hope of finding a gently used kiln that is within my budget. Raku firing isn’t possible at home due to us living in the city limits. Plus, I am legally blind. Despite having a bit of light perception, I prefer having an electric kiln that is pretty straightforward in its use.
Plaster is a great alternative to the messy shaped and shaved styrofoam or crudely cut and glued cardboard. I already had some from chalk paint projects. 🎉
You just need a taller harp for the shade and that would show off the carving on the top of your piece. Great job otherwise!
BEAUTIFUL!
I always watch video about your pottery, you make it beautiful 🎉

Sooo goooood !!!!!!!!
Such a helpful video, thank you! I love how you’ve set up your reclaim system! I do want to clear up one very common misconception! I also learned early on that firing glaze waste makes the chemicals inert; however, this isn’t true! Firing your glaze waste does not neutralize toxic chemicals or make them any less likely to leach into groundwater, etc. Only chemically stable glazes will not leach (this is true for the glazes we use on our pottery too!), and a mix of various glazes is very, very unlikely to be chemically stable once fired. IF your glazes contain toxic metals (many don’t!), treating them as hazardous waste (option 1) is really the only way to safely dispose of them, if you don’t use them up as a mystery glaze (option 3). Learning about glaze chemistry has really opened my eyes to analyze a lot of the “lore” we learn as potters, and I just like to spread the knowledge wealth where I can. Thanks again for this super helpful breakdown of your studio setup!
Beautiful ! I love it ! A small table top for your next project 👍 I think that it could work 😉 !
Wow I like it❤
This bird feeder looks so adorable! Especially I like how birds are using it)
thank you! ❤️
This has been massively helpful thank you ❤
This turned out wonderful! The moomin-esque look is an obvious win, but the whole thing is really nice. Really love to see you explore the construction of this thing as you went along, with the different firings, underglazing, oxides and so on. The porous main body has me a bit worried though - wouldn't that mean that any time there's a rainstorm with some amount of wind, there'll be moisture wicking through it and into the seeds inside? This would obviously require a different construction, with the cylinder and base separate, but it seems like only underfiring the base would be better so that the cylinder would be waterproof. Also, it might be an idea to add some sort of padding between the top of the cylinder and the roof, so they don't keep getting bumped together by the wind? Not that the weight of the roof won't hold it in place, but with that shape it seems rather likely to be caught and lifted slightly by strong winds, which would probably cause some wear over time.
great suggestions! We will see how it holds up 🤞
@@PotterytothePeople Yes, it would be super interesting to have an update after it's been in use for a while! And, just to be clear, I think you did an absolutely stunning job with this 😊
To support the roof you could do a cone in thick paper
genius!
Aww it's so cute! I love getting to see the birds using it at the end!
Me too! ❤️
So stinking cute!!!
❤️❤️
I would totally buy this unique lamp in a heart beat ❤️
I also feel like I missed my chance for "traditional" training. We might have to do it for the next generation of potters. I was 45 when I started pottery and I am 52 now. I feel so far behind the curve. I live in South Africa and we don't have any college courses here for Pottery.
We need a matching birdhouse now. We have tons of birds in the Lake Tahoe area.
it was fun to make :) highly recommend!
That's adorable, it turned out beautiful! And I'm so happy the birds love it! And thank you so much for the template ♥♥
You are so welcome!
so cool.. thanks for the video and template :)
You're welcome 😊
Thank you for video. My mom asked for a bird House. I think she wanted wood work. I'm planning a similar ceramic feeder as i am less inspired by bird house
Sounds great!
Fabulous! 🐨👍
Amazing
love it
Gorgeous!
That’s awesome!! I think if I do this I’ll actually use the bottom as a bird bath and not do holes in the bottom.. then the whole thing can be glazed. Do you guys think it would work like that?
the bird bath might get gross as seeds fall into it? 🤷♀️ worth a try!
Thank you for your generosity in sharing the template for free....looking forward to trying it! I would love a template and video on making a handbuilt coffee pourover! Love your videos! 😊❤😊
I am working on that right now! It will be available in July over on my other channel @potterytemplates :)
Awesome....you are the best!!
