Derelict Clearances Cottage With Music On History Visit To Torridon North West Highlands Of Scotland
Tour Scotland short 4K Summer travel video clip, with Scottish bagpipes music, of a derelict Crofters cottage on ancestry, genealogy, family history visit and trip to the Torridon area of the North West Highlands, Britain, United Kingdom. The Gaelic name, Toirbheartan, is usually applied to the mountains to the north of Glen Torridon. The Torridon estate was devastated by the Highland Clearances, particularly when it was under the ownership of Colonel McBarnet, who purchased the estate in 1831 and proceeded to evict tenant farmers and crofters, moving many to Annat, and restricting crofters to a single cow. Alexander McBarnet had married into a family with slavery connections, he does not seem to have come from a particularly affluent
background. However, after a period as a sojourner in St Vincent he was able to afford to buy not one but two large west Highland estates. Slavery Compensation of more than £8,000 received in 1836 is highly likely to have contributed to his purchase of Attadale in 1837 and Torridon in 1838. When I played it back in the 90's it was like 70 USD. Similar to a good local course here in the States. I think with the rise in golf's popularity (the Tiger Woods effect) they upped the price to help keep hacks, like myself, from wanting to play there. In the 90's I played the Old Course twice along with the New and Jubilee courses. PS I almost took a second floor window out along the 18 fairway when I sculled/sliced my approach shot to the 18the green. There were like 50-60 tourists all watching and taking pictures green side at the time and my knees buckled. One of my most embarrassing moments in life.
