Bug Boxes Aug 12 2023 Output
I built a few more Ffestiniog Railway Bug Box coaches, so took the opportunity to give them a run. This is behind my Glyn Valley Tram loco.
All stock is 3D printed or laser cut, including the loco.

MSS Mamod Live Steam Loco with brake force wagon
zhlédnutí 6KPřed 3 lety
Live Steam Locos without radio control are very difficult to run on garden railways with steep curves and gradients, as you cannot touch the regulator to adjust the speed. To get around this, I built a brake force wagon, which has a small electric motor and gearbox linked to a radio control system. This lets me brake and if required "help" the steam loco by altering the speed of the electric mo...

I was there from 89-91 while my father was the squadron commander for the 511th TFS. So many great memories of Alconbury, both the base and the village itself where we lived. Also so many proud memories of my dad taking his squadron to the desert and bringing all the guys and the A-10s back safe and sound.

Very interesting. I had been contemplating the idea of making an electronic unit to act like one of the ZeCar based inertia wagons but quieter and with a degree of adjustable synthetic inertia and this video is very encouraging. I'd like to make something that is autonomous so you just hook it up and forget about it.

I was stationed at RAF Alconbury from Jan 1961-Jan 1964. We repaired the Base Radios ( HF & UHF ) in the Tower , Fire Station, ( & in the fire Trucks) , Air Police. They had RB-66 aircraft ( Photo Recon). They did a lot of changes after that, when the Vietnam war was just cranking up. To Bad they can't keep some of the old things around.

I love this place! Some of my best childhood memories are of Alconbury for most of the 1970's, 1st - 7th grade "Go Spartan's." Then moved back to the states for a year. Then returned to England at RAF Weathersfield-(Red Horse Sq) and a year of jr high at RAF Lakenheath. We spent many years Alconbury, living in base housing and just off base in Alconbury village on Red Lion Close. My mum ran the Chow-Hall so i was introduced to a lot of pilots as they passed through and many of them would take my out to see their plane and tell me all about it. My mother still lives close by the village there.

Looks like it's easy to get access to the flightline side of the base now , when I visited the base in 1997 , MOD controlled access to that part of the base . I was stationed there in the early 70's and worked out of the small red brick building next to the tower. At the time it was the weapons release shop, which was part of the Munitions Maint. Sq. Not 100% sure but I think the building number is 91.
