The Sony ZV-E10 Mark II is Here...but is it worth it?
The Sony ZV-E10 Mark 2 is FINALLY here after years of waiting since the Sony ZV-E10 Mark 1 was released. We're finally getting 4k 10-bit, improved menu, an updated screen, and more...but is it worth still getting since other Sony cameras that are "better" have come out?
Let's see what's actually in this camera versus its other sibling cameras and how well it stacks up!

    I've tested this before, using zve1 pairing with 24mm f1.4 gm, so it's 36mm after zooming in. Then I switched a 35mm f1.4 gm to compare both image, I did see a noticeable quality drop as the true 35mm was just shaper and more clear. The zoomed in image was not bad at all, but just not as sharp.

      @@TechCraze Ah! Then, you’ll want to use a proxy workflow. This will allow you to record in 4k, edit in 720p, export in 1080p to do all you want to achieve without the hassle of editing with the larger 4k files, since it’s a problem for your computer. Imagine Proxy files being the same exact file size as a 720p video file would be and that’s what you use to edit with. Then, when you’re done, you’ll switch to the full size video editing file, being the 4k video file. So, that way you get the best of both worlds. This sounds like it might be some tedious process but it takes seconds because your computer is doing the heavy lifting. Here’s the video I did on how to do that: czcams.com/video/_snwHFGMYYM/video.htmlsi=iFdSU-i0OcIZ8dUa

    This works for sony 6400??

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney Před 6 dny

      @lukianproductions Would this work to cool the camera, yes. Would this work specifically on the a6400 or a6600, not without some quirks. Those cameras have a flip up screen mechanism that hinges right in the middle of the back of the camera. So, it's not a clear and open space as with fully articulating flip screens, like on the Sony ZV-E1. So, you could tilt the hinge downward to lay flat, but you won't see your screen anymore. If you're using a live stream setup, that won't matter because the camera image will be visible on a much larger monitor. That's why I said yes you could use it, but not without that quirk because of the way the screen is. AliExpress has some camera fans that are half the size of the Ulanzi fans and would work with the screen fully flipped up on the a6400. I only recently got rid my a6400, but ran it extensively for hours on end non-stop in 4k without any overheating. Do you have your high heat setting enabled on your camera?

    @timbrowntown Před 8 dny

    Hi Diana. I just bought the A6700 with your affiliate link I tracked down on a previous video. I always try to use my fellow CZcamsr's affiliate links whenever possible, especially when they help with making a purchase. I'm really glad I was able to tune in and you mentioned the UHS-II cards. I did some more research and I wouldn't have been able to shoot with the A6700 in 4k/120 at 10-bit 4:2:2 without one. I see that the V60 was good enough (because that's in MB/S rather than mb/s). I just couldn't justify the E1 just yet, but I've been disappointed with the E10 Mark 1 for quite some time (rolling shutter + stabilization). Now that all of Sony's current cards are on the table, it was time. Thanks and I hope you see this come through for you. I removed it from my cart, then added it back through your affiliate before making the purchase. I'm excited!!!

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney Před 2 dny

      @timbrowntown Tim I really appreciate you taking the time and effort to use my affiliate link for your purchase, that means a lot, truly! Glad to know I'm not the only one that does that lol Yeah, it's nice that all the sub-$2k Sony cameras are released and there are quite a few options on the market to choose from. The cool thing is the Sony a6700 is incredibly similar to the ZV-E1, so there are minimal differences, and you get to keep using all your existing lenses. If you're coming from the ZV-E10 Mark 1, you're still making a massive upgrade in a ton of areas to be plenty satisfied. It's a really great camera, hope you're enjoying it!

      @@andre785 The max capacity, you’d have to check the camera manual online. The recommended capacity, at least 64GB or larger as shared in the video so it doesn’t break up your files. Any file size beyond that is preference. However, more than 512GB isn’t really that logical on this camera because you can record a ton with 256GB cards. That’s a TON of footage, even in 4k, to have on just one card past 256GB. 256GB is around 5 hours of 4k which is a lot, even more in 1080p at the highest bitrates.

    I had to leave your stream early before you answered my question. Thank you very much. This is helping. I would be using the camera for vlogging at comicons, but my content is mostly stationary with CZcams podcasts, product showcases, on a tripod. I would use this camera for vacation vlogging, which I go on twice a year, and attend 4-6 comicons a year. I think putting the ZV-E10 on a tripod may be all I need for now. Thank you so much!

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney Před 2 dny

      @emansworldofgeek You're very welcome! Yeah, a monopod at a Comicon type event and a lens with OSS will be plenty to meet your needs for what you're trying to do. As long as you're not on some weird slant or something like a hill where a good tripod will be ideal, a monopod would be perfect because it's a small footprint, but still plenty sturdy for your camera, lens, audio setup, and even a small led light if you needed on for in person man on the street type setup if you did interviews at the Comicon. Even the ZV-E1 is super light and I've done the same thing, so the ZV-E10 II would be the same kind of experience.

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney Před 13 dny

      Thanks for letting me know! They've since updated the model. This is the updated version here: diana.link/batterybank When it comes to reliable gear, the biggest thing is making sure you're using a reliable brand YOU trust. I only recommend the stuff I've used for a long time and personally trust, but that doesn't mean they're never going to have one that's defective. It's the same risks with anything we buy, so same rules here. I still use my Charmast charger regularly and it's working great, so it's something that's lasted for years for me at this point. So, I can't guarantee anything. You have to choose what you feel is best for you and that you trust. If you're hesitant about the Charmast brand, go with a tried and true like Anker or similar larger electronics brand and something you can find locally from an electronics store and get a warranty.

      @DianaGladney Před 2 dny

      @Chris_P.eterson Yeah, I hear you, but even with the updated digital stabe, it's still not a big win win though. IF it were at Go Pro levels of stabe, it'd be an easy open and close case. Right now, there's only so much info when it comes to stabe tests vs showing how it performs in real life scenarios on the day to day. Digital can work great, but Sony lacks OSS lenses to better help offset the crops, etc. Is it doable, 100%. Will it be ideal, to be determined. That's also going off of what my personal experience has been testing and using a ton of Sony cameras for extended periods of time, the Sony ZV-E1 and a6700 performance of Dynamic Active + Stabe + OSS and Active Stabe + OSS lenses and it still having a significant crop and some shakes that may need smoothening in Catalyst Browse. This camera will sell regardless of all that lol but I still think the camera could have benefited greatly with at least the addition of IBIS and Dynamic Active stabe for vloggers to have more options. The real life frustration of those noticeable shakes in a clip where you're having a ball in a vlog and it is starting to have that dizzying effect, that's where my concern is coming from, that real life application. Once I try it and test it for myself, then we'll see how it holds up for real. It's still a great camera regardless, but I want to see how the real life experience is before I give my final say so on it.

      @@DianaGladney Your explanation is definitely easy to understand and plausible. I agree with you that Sony and almost all other camera manufacturers cannot manage to install functioning stabilizers. This is simply unacceptable in 2024. I also like to compromise with a certain crop. I would like to be able to use an apsc or full frame camera without a gimbal and still take smooth shots. Hope that will happen one day.

    Hi Diana, I think maybe the ZV-E10 ii is DOA. Why? Well because that camera here (Australia) cost $1850 AUD ! At that price the smarter option is the A6700 which cost and additional $50. No IBIS in the ZV-E10 ii No AI ...

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney Před 2 dny

      @decem_unosquattro9538 I hear you, but I wouldn't say it's dead in the water. It's easy to look at the better options on the market and it's an instant yes for a lot of folks. The overseas pricing structure is something I'm sure they take into consideration and for certain markets the better buy financially is easily the Sony a6700. I don't think that'll be true for everyone though, like here in the U.S. the price difference is much greater and it's a $400 difference; tag on an extra $100 for taxes and that's $500, which is a lot more. For someone brand new, that's their lights, audio, and accessories or if they have all that a good lens or two depending on what they get. Plus, there's something to be said for preference. Even though it may be only an extra $50 now, that price will still be worth it for some that really want the ZV-E10 II body style and creator features in the body style. You're not the first Aussie in the community I've chatted with about the prices or currency exchange, so you're not alone with that pricing frustration. Hopefully some camera stores or Sony kicks in some rebates or something to help offset that difference to make it more worth it for those that may want to see a steeper price difference. I can empathize with where you're coming from though.

    Great stuff; I've got the mk#1 and would be tempted - but given the price of it... if I'm going to invest that much on what is essentially an incremental upgrade I may as well wait for something higher end. Plus, if I did buy it I'd be dumb and not sell my old camera so I'd end up with three cameras. 'cos I still have my M6 #2.

    If you are new to camera's, just getting started then the ZV-E10 and the ZV-E10-II is a good place to start because of three things. Lenses, LENses and LENSES. Good to great manual and auto focus lenses you can get from $100-$500. Sony camera are great to learn your craft at a good price. The price you pay for one great full frame lens could be more than your camera body. I am glad I started with the E10. It allowed me to learn everything I needed to know before I made the next step and has good auto-focus to help get you on the way. While $1000 is a lot of money go take a look at the price of some Sony lenses. That will sober you up real fast.

    I am really on the fence about the E10M II. I thought since it did not have the AI chip overheating would not be a problem. I did not see anyone use one of the stick on fans with it yet, but for long recording at 4K and streaming I bet it would help. I like that at 4K 24/30 the rolling shutter is better(even without a shutter) than the old model. I have to say that the a6700 in photo mode is almost 100%. It is rare I miss what I am shooting at with the 6700, however the ZV-E10 for me was about 80% so not having IBIS is a big deal. On the a6700 I use the EVF all the time outside in the bright sun to line up and look at the video/photos I am taking. If you are not getting an EVF, you should at least get a top end back screen to use in bright sunlight included in that $1000 price. The other thing is that the steady shot will work great with an OSS lens but not so much with my Sigma 18-50mm,16mm,30mm. I see most reviews using the new kit lens that has OSS. So it comes down to this for me. For $1000 is it a good B Cam for me to use in the studio. It would be nice to have something that had the same sensor and color. Soooo do I go "cheap" or go pro-ish. $1000 for the E10-II or $1500 for a used FX-30 or $1800 for a new one. I am on the fence leaning toward the one that I can shoot video all day with.

      Well, you make some great points in sharing your needs for what you want and how you use your camera. It seems you have a pretty solid use case for the a6700 over the ZV-E10 Mark 2. The video performance will be identical, minus the small bits like the product showcase mode or zoom rocker, which don't sound like a want in your case. So, there's two schools of thought on this being save a little and get the ZV-E10 Mark II IF it's going to be for more dominant video uses. The second school of thought is just getting another a6700 and don't even look at the ZV-E10 Mark 2 BECAUSE you can setup the cameras identically, know you have access to another EVF if and when you need it and know you'll get identical performance and have the IBIS like you want. Sometimes the best option is the thing that isn't the most budget-friendly, but what is instead the most efficient option. Speaking from personal experience, that's why once I got the ZV-E10 Mark 1, I dropped the a6600 as the second camera. When you're actively creating, not having to worry about mentally switching modes based on how you create, where certain features are located, and more. If you already know the Sony a6700 works best for you and you're happy with it, getting a second one will only amplify and double that, plus be extremely efficient in your workflow. Now, the final question you have to ask yourself, are the differences you mentioned worth making the investment up or are they things that would not impact you creatively for how you intend to use the camera. For me, I could use the ZV-E10 II just fine as a second video camera to my ZV-E1, but I know me and that I'd get annoyed wanting certain features on that second angle and not having it. So, for me personally, the efficiency of a second ZV-E1 makes more sense than the monetary savings to know I could pick up either camera and have the exact same experience. Could I get by with the ZV-E10 II just fine, definitely, but not without being frustrated or finding minor workarounds and adding on a bit more time on the backend to make concessions for those workarounds. In the moment it's not a big deal, but it's a time loss over time. So for me, I value the efficiency more than the savings in that perspective. You just have to know yourself, what frustrates you when you're creating, and what makes (or would make) your life easy when you're creating. Then, make your decision based on what you care about and what you need or want the most, spec sheets won't confer those kinds of differences. Hopefully this helps you make the decision that's right for YOU to get you what you want.

      @DianaGladney Před 14 dny

      @contigo4006 Well, if you're coming from being a Mark 1 owner and want to stay with the ZV camera lineup, the updates will feel more significant than that. Touch screen, 10-bit 4k video, 4k 30p USB C live streaming, Z battery, wifi, and faster USB C port (as you mentioned), and better digital stabe performance in Active. Is is the best stabe ever, no. Is it a drastic improvement from the Mark 1 experience, absolutely. So, if video is your only concern, it'd make a difference when creating. Personally, I'd still go ZV-E1 because nothings held back in the camera, it's the full creator package for me.
