You have an interest in the history of these mountain rifles and have mentioned books on the subject, what book would you suggest I would like to read more about the styles of mountain rifles. I have two original rifles from the Ozark region which seem to be influenced by Mountain rifles and Hawken rifles. Both have blacksmith made barrels. I suspect the maker used what he had on hand, not caring about a "school."

Howdy Unc. That news about Dualist's channel is just outrageous! It's bad enough with Hickok, since he shows all kinds of "scary" things on his channel, but these geniuses are cracking down on items that even somebody with a felon-iee can purchase through the US mail! There needs to be some Oversight on these draconian rules that change at the whim of whomever is sittin in the cat bird's seat at that particular time.... but if you're a dude who wants to teach "miners" (coal miners, YT) how TRANSMISSIONS can change your gears, then you are pushed to the forefront of the recommended list..... On the brighter side, that maple looks so good! Take it real easy, Unc

The "Hog Rifle" was the basic farmers or settlers gun. He used it to do all of the chores a rifle might be called on to do around the farm. From slaughtering hogs to keeping varmits out of the henhouse to bagging small game. By the time the country was mostly settled the really big game like bison, elk and bear were long gone. Calibers shrank from 69 smoothbore or 54 rifles to mostly 45 caliber and under rifles. The

Today, so many of these firearms are considered relics of the past. A way of life that was hard at times, but so rich in ways that we really can’t understand today.
