So cool 🎉👩🎓
💞Wow💛💛💛🤍💛
Just love it😊
my least favorite is Ailanthus altissima!
My favorite edible native plant is the paw paw
Thank you for the explanation!
Thank you! I have suddenly started noticing the large scale replacement of native species, by the hideously invasive "ornamental" bradford pear It has seeded everywhere in northern Illinois. Yet, landscape designers are still mindlessly plugging them into all manor of commercial settings. I recently counted approximately 50 of them around a single Walmart. They have spread into nearly every wild space. Something has to be done.
Thank you!
Thank you!!! Every fall, I watch my neighbors scurry around each weekend, collecting all of the leaves, and carefully piling them at the curb, so that we can pay the city to remove all of this organic fertilizer. Then, in the spring, they pay the lawn services to come and apply chemical fertilizers to their lawns. It's utter insanity. Lol
My favorite naive plant recipe? I love salads. Viola leaves, Fragaria virginiana strawberries, Oxalis stricta (sparringly for a hint of citrusy flavor. I think it tastes citrusy anyway), crutons, hickory nut oil (used to be available on Sam Thayer's website. Haven't seen it there in a while), salt, and a few Viola flowers on top to make it more presentable. You don't want to go too heavy on the F. virginiana strawberries because they are SO sweet, but they are the perfect size for a salad. This exact salad is almost impossible to make, because by the time the F. virginiana is in fruit and the Oxalis is available, the Viola flowers are done, but these are all things that I like to do with my salads, even if not all at once.
I made a row of them so I hope to see this in a couple of years. I started them from seed I collected at my local beaches.
Dang it, I just bought one from Home Depot and it’s fairly big and I bought for 18.99 I am about to dig a hole for in the front apron of our driveway that has some other trees.. uh oh
now they are invasive. what about the trees that were there before them?? haha
I have to wonder, with so many flowering trees there, are there any open pollinated nuts that are naturally regenerating there? Or… are ALL the burs harvested?
Absolutely fantastic episode. Taylor is brilliant!
It has medicinal uses. It's highly loaded with antioxidants. It removes wants. Many great uses. It's also very beautiful! And they want to ban it in Michigan??? Want to spray harmful chemicals in it??? That hurt animals and people. Makes sense..🙃🤨
Any way to get rid of it?
Fat
Another fantastic episode! One of my favorites of the 2024 season.
TACF is going to obliterate the existence of the true American Chestnut Trees by releasing hybrid and genetically engineered trees into the environment. There will be no way to control cross-pollination. They need to stop all of this immediately and find another way to save this invaluable treasure and important part of our heritage.
Cool I'm gonna plant smooth alder in my yard
Fantastic episode! I would love to have an episode all about alternative fules.
Great Episode!
It makes me happy that educators continue to share their knowledge beyond their runs as professors. Great post! Thanks!
Any shrub or small tree recommendations
So inspiring both guests, thank you😊
Thank you so much for bringing awareness about invasive vines. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I’m doing my part in Northern Virginia 👍🏻
My nose can feel the pollen from this video😅
Did you say root dip? Like rooting horomone? :) Just checking I understood right. I love the behind the scenes of growing! Hope you keep posting ones like this.
I loved hearing about Fran's journey. It just goes to show that you never know what you'll end up doing and what passion you'll cultivate along the way. So glad you two started this podcast. I've been listening for several years now, and I often listen while I'm in my garden. This time, it was nice to listen while I worked inside on some artwork, while watching the snow storm out my windows! ☃❄🌨
Thank you for the kind words. We appreciate you taking the journey with us. Here’s to what comes next!
@@Nativeplantfran 😊
So glad you liked it!
They’re also known as “semen trees”, because of the smell. I don’t think that’s a fair comparison for semen. 😂 maybe if you let it sit for a few days, that’s kind of what the tree smells like.
Would like to see forrestery divisions replanting these trees all over. ❤ all states clear cuts
Once the new varieties get released thats the plan!
Thank you for the work you do!!! Great job 👏🏻 !!!
Where can you get rice husks from?
yep how do I rid 1/2 acre of it...ugh
I was beaten to the like but not the comments! Haha. A fabulous conversation about one of my favorite fruits.
Way to go !
These are my favorite trees. They bloom so beautifully in the spring and give great shade through out the summer into fall. I recommend these trees to everyone!
I found your show earlier this year and I look forward to every episode. I'm a home grower that's moving towards native plants. We pulled out our Japanese Barberry and Burning bushes this summer and we are replacing them with native plantings. So far we have some short toothed mountain mint, Helianthus angustifolius, milkweed, baptisia and asters. Working with a tight budget it's slow going but we'll get there, We have a few acres in Zone 6B in Virginia. I really appreciate the wide variety of topics you cover. Also I can count on one hand the amount of times I have commented on a YT video since I learned YT was a thing many moons ago. That's how much I enjoy you both, :-)
That’s awesome! Thank you so much for commenting!
Another 10/10 episode! And yes, S.T.E.A.M Acolyte as in a devotee to science, technology, engineering, art, and math. Keep up the fantastic work. Looking forward to the next one. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Great Job Penn State
We are Penn State
Is the yellow stuff goldenrod?
We have goldenrod in one of our other recent videos! This patch is Helianthus angustifolius (swamp sunflower) 🌻
How can I help?
First! Couldn't resist. Another amazing episode! Happy to hear the news that you will consider every place that folks can consume your content for the giveaway. You both are amazing! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
😎😎😎 cool
This hit on a deeper level than plants. I thoroughly enjoyed listening. Good stuff!
I'm excited to see research like this being discussed on youtube and would love to see more... I also would love to see the rest of what she was saying 🙂
They look great!
As a kid growing up my grandfather used to work for a company like this delivering the plants to shops. I would love to work for a place like this the people are different and loving people.❤❤❤❤
Thanks! We sure do love plants!
