A quick tour of the garden to see how much growth happens in two weeks as well as what failed. We never get too sad over the failures because we learn lessons from them that last a lifetime!

Garden Update and The Wonders of Weeds!
zhlédnutí 76Před 4 měsíci
The garden got away from us at the end of last year and now we are playing catchup. The main thing we did not get to, when putting the garden to sleep in the fall, was putting down another layer of wood chips. As a result we had to deal with some weeds in order to plant. Some of the weeds, however are edible, like Lambs Quarters! In this video, join us as I weed the garden while sharing some sp...

Love the fall crops. FaddysPlace
@@FaddysPlace thank you. The whole garden got away from us when we went on vacation so we had to take up many crops. So…here comes fall!!
You saved the dog sense of smell for sure.
This was my first time making the salve. I put it in a tiny Crock-Pot on low and I think it might have still gotten too hot, because the leaves are a bit crunchy. Can I still use that oil, or do you think the heat destroyed the good properties? I thought about straining it and reusing the oil with fresh plantain. What do you think
@@marleenkerri2408 I would use the oil and test it. You can always remelt once you add the beeswax if you find it’s not potent. My leaves are a little crunchy when it done too. Make sure when you strain it you don’t get any water in it. Did you put it directly in the crockpot or in a jar in the crockpot?
@@HeartandHomesteadwithDawn I put it directly in the crock-pot. It was a tiny one
@@marleenkerri2408 try it out on bites or rashes and you’ll know if it’s not strong enough.
what a karen
Have you done this tincture using apple cider vinegar with the mother? I heard it's ok to do but doesn't last as long. Would it be made the same way? I can't seem to find a tutorial on it.
@@gilbertcammarn874 hello! We have not used apple cider vinegar to tincture peppers as we do not believe it would be effective enough to draw out the medicinal properties. We do love apple cider vinegar with the mother for many other things though!
@@HeartandHomesteadwithDawn thank you. I'll be picking up vodka then to make this tincture. Thanks
@@gilbertcammarn874 let me know how it turns out! I’m drinking some in my morning coffee right now ♥️
@@HeartandHomesteadwithDawn nice on in coffee. I drink a half tsp of the powder daily. Maybe I can put it in my cold brew . Hmm 🧐
@@gilbertcammarn874 that’s great!! If you can handle that’s so healthy! My husband can do that but not Me 😔 I don’t tolerate the heat of that well.
Wait until it spray you 😂
Thank you so much. One question is that I don't have fresh Cayenne peppers, can the same be done with dry Cayenne? I have some 35K and 90K HU.
@@rgrea2 yes! However since dry peppers are more concentrated, you will only fill the jar 1/2 way with peppers then fill the jar with the alcohol; 80 proof or higher, preferably 100.
I just made a batch of plaintain and vitamin k salve , i use it for insect sting and also fire ant bites , takes the venom out
Thank you! Great video. I am going to try this tinture using the cayenne peppers from the garden. I can not take capsules because I bleed. I'm hoping this works! Blessings!!

What is the name of that okra? Will try it next year

Thks. very much for your recipe, but I have a slow cooker & it only has low & high, should I put it on low? because it don't has warm, & for how long?
@@joancayenne9293 thank you for watching and commenting. I think low might be too much heat. Can you research what temp. the low setting is on your brand slow cooker?
@@HeartandHomesteadwithDawn The temperature is around 190°F (87°C) while the high setting is approximately 300°F (149°C)
I think you meant dehydrate.

Hi Brother and Sister . Can we use fresh plantain in our oil if its cooked on the stove for 2 hours? 🎉 thx
I’ve read about using fresh leaves. If I remember the issue is the water content it produces in the oil. I’ll try to find the article.
Thanks for this video! I add the fresh leaves into salads or eat it cooked like greens. I also made an infusion of plantain with self heal for my skin. Texas Deb ❤️

So there is currently a skunk under my car right next to the tire I noticed as I’m about to leave my house. it’s 92 degrees I think she’s trying to cool down under my car but she’s holding me up 😂
😂😂
He looks exactly like my old dog I had to give away to a family member, resides in Maryland now.
My dog learned the hard way about skunks. He also wasn't allowed in the house for 2 weeks.
How 5 people could upvote you leaving your dog outside for 2 weeks🤬. My husky got sprayed. We bathed it a couple of times. Didn't spend one night outside.

I have a good friend Michael and he have had 4 heart attacks and I told him not to eat lasagna and especially made with extra beef and all that cheese and ect.. so I told him to lay off the stuff and just please start eating healthy and I told him I'm from Louisiana and we believe in the cayenne pepper. And I told him about the tincture that stopped an heart attack in 30 seconds and also it was another per in the early 2003 it helped a person with cancer cells was gone and I admire your techniques and I'm getting weekend and prepare Incase if anybody have any heart attacks I pray that all stay heart healthy I really appreciate your channel and GOD BLESS YOU ALL
I will pray for Michael. May the Lord speak to him in a dream that causes him to take his health seriously. In the meantime, you being prepared is a beautiful thing. I believe the Lord does cause some of us to prepare for those who don’t know yet. Thank you for watching the video and commenting! God bless you!
Thank you so much
Awesome
please Excuse my ignorance but why do you leave the seed heads on the plants when they could spread seed every where. Good Day from an Australian Brother in Christ.
Well I have no good answer for you, brother! We were late in removing them. The good thing is that we garden in deep mulch and get very few weeds when we stay on top of it. Thank you for watching and commenting! Blessings!
I love to collect the seeds … for spreading the wealth along culverts and such.
@@BarefootInAK fabulous idea!

@@BarefootInAK wonderful! Do you dehydrate yours? We picked a bunch last week, dehydrated it and vacuum sealed itv in a ball jar for future use. Very valuable!
Thanks for the video. I have lots of plantain growing in my back yard. I did start digging them up and planting them into pots. I have lots more to go yet, though, haha.
Hello 🙋🏻♀️ that’s fabulous! Have you made anything with the plantain?
Good evening. I greatly enjoyed the video. I was wondering if you had made one on how to tincture dried cayenne peppers? I just bought some dried peppers to use but wanted to make sure I did it right. Would you still use the 1:5 method as when using dried herbs? Or just fill the jar and then fill with vodka?
Hello! Thank you for watching and commenting, we have not made one using dried cayenne but you can use dried! Textbook is 1 part dried cayenne to 5 parts 100 proof Vodka, Folk method is 50/50 with dried cayenne and Vodka. With fresh Cayenne, fill the jar all the way except an inch or two of top, then fill jar to top with 100 proof vodka.( reason is that fresh cayenne contains allot of water and more is needed therefore)
Thank you for protecting that animal gods animal
And a cute one!

kurutulmuş muz yaprağı zeytin yağı balmumu
@@HeartandHomesteadwithDawn That translated VERY wrong. Plantain is also a type of banana so it translated it to 'dried banana leaves'!
The plant name is translated wrong in her reply to you. The plant is NOT kurutulmuş muz yaprağı
@@jazzcatt oh no! I used a translation app. Do you know the correct translation?
@@HeartandHomesteadwithDawn Unfortunately I don't know. It's name here is Giant Turkish Plantain, and is a variety of Plantago Major, both names of which I am quite sure are NOT in Google translate's database. Google translate completely massacres translations with many languages. It's so bad it could get someone in real trouble rather than just causing a snicker or a belly laugh. Swahili is one language that the translations, both to and from English, are completely useless, unless it is a Christian Bible verse that is being translated.
Better than spinach? So does lambs quarters taste like spinach?
Hello! Yes, can you believe it? And it’s a weed that grows so easily. To me it tastes like mild spinach. I’ve had it raw in salads & smoothies, steamed and sautéed. All delicious!
@@HeartandHomesteadwithDawn ok. Though I like raw spinach, I detest cooked spinach. So I will try it raw. Thanks!
@@BelindaTN let me know your thoughts. It’s truly very mild. You might find that you enjoy it cooked as well. I have a friend that can’t eat spinach but can eat lambs quarters. We had it growing wild on our farm in NYS and she would come and fill bag fulls being so delighted that she could eat it.
