As a roofer and general contractor (depending on your area) 9k for a roof is hella cheap. The last roof my boss and I did an estimate on, was gonna cost around 25k…doing it yourself isn’t a bad idea *IF* you know what you are doing. Metal roofing is so much easier (imo) than shingles. Either way if you don’t know what you are doing, you are going or you don’t do something correctly, it’s going to cost you more than 9k in the long run. Good luck. I’m a female, been doing roofing jobs on and off most of my life, and I remember one job the owner kept insisting we do something *his* way instead of the right way, and it cost him MUCH more than the roofing job itself. My boss refused to cut the corner the owner wanted him to cut, he fired us, and “finished” it himself. Mold in three rooms, and one whole wall of his house collapsed! 🤦🏽‍♀️about 5 yrs later….

Pro tip: Homeowners Insurance, HELOC Account and do some market research. I just got my whole roof re-shingled for $7,800, only $2,500 out of pocket. $9,000 is pretty reasonable depending on your area. Insurance would cover 25-75% of cost if the repairs were necessary.

Depending on your state you can get your roof replaced through insurance and not cost a dime out of pocket.
