    Jose…do you recall if there were lateral braces (flat 3/16” aluminum or stainless stock about 1 1/2” wide) across the keel bolts…then the large keel bolt nuts ?

      On my P34 there are large washers and nuts on the keel bolts. The last video I did on the sole of the boat there is a section where I show the bilge completely dry and you can see the keel bolts.

    Thanks for the effort in making the video, but somewhat annoying how many times you scrolled past "about" without checking your firmware version before and after to see if it actually upgraded. Also horrible design that you have to do it this way. My system is connected to wifi. Inexcusable that it cant update over that.

    Hi Jose. This is a really beautiful boat, and if I was thirty years younger, would be right up my street, but unfortunately, due to disabilities,as it has a pretty classic narrow beam for increased hull speed when heeling, I have no choice but to avoid the heeling angles involved, so I am forced to go with the more recent hull designs with very wide Beams, and virtually full hull length hard Chines,that need to be Sailed Upright, with a maximum heeling angle of about 15 degrees no matter the conditions you are sailing in. Frankly, I’m somewhat green with envy of whoever ends up with this Sailboat. Thanks for the great boat Tour Jose, it was a very nice nostalgia trip for me. PS. Something could be done about those back stays by the way, as an in Mast Furling Mast alignment needs to be within one inch between the top and the bottom of the mast- so can be a much simpler standing rigging setup ? Best Wishes. Bob In Wales.🤔🌟🌟🌟🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇬🇧⛵️❤️

    Jeanneau is recalling these boats made in the last few years if they have been fitted with a bow thruster. In heavy seas, the bow can smack into a wave and the force pushes the bow thruster straight into the hull creating a big hole for water to rush in. Boat sinks in minutes. Apparently this is because the bow thrusters weren't installed with sufficient solid laminate around the housing to withstand heavy forces. It doesn't sound like there is a simple fix for it either, except for cutting the thing out and refitting it properly.

      I did a little research. Here is the information on the recall and the year models it affects: Jeanneau Yachts has issued a recall for their Sun Odyssey models 410, 440, and 490 produced between 2020 and 2022. The recall addresses a safety issue with the Sleipner-Sidepower retractable bow thruster modules. Owners of these models are advised to inspect the thruster area for water ingress and stop using the boat until the reinforcement of the thruster flange is completed. Jeanneau is providing this service free of charge to ensure the safety of their customers . There are no current recalls for the newer Jeanneau Yachts 55, which has received accolades and won awards for its innovative design and performance . If you have one of the affected models or need further assistance, it’s recommended to contact your dealer or Jeanneau’s customer service.

    Hi thank you for this series of videos, they are very helpful. I am looking at the swing keel 2 cabin performance version of this model for myself, my wife and my dog my question is, if I go hardtop with 4 solar panels running electric cooking, a watermaker and an additional fridge with racking in the store room with possibly an additional fuel tank added would it be possible to cruise full time on this small yacht? Thank you in advance, Tony.

    • @HomesBoatsTravelbyJoseTorres
      @HomesBoatsTravelbyJoseTorres Před měsícem

      Everything is possible! 😀. Here are some things to consider. Having a Pet onboard will have its challenges depending on the size of your pet. If your pet has not been used to being in confined spaces for a long period of time. This is something you should consider. Adding the solar is a good option. That said, you also have to add enough battery capacity to store the energy. Do a spreadsheet of all the things you want to have on your boat and calculate the power consumption. Based on that, add another 20%, and this should give you a good idea of how much battery capacity you have to add. Also based on how many batteries, think about the weight impact on the boat and where to install them to keep things in balance. Going to an induction cooktop would definitely extend your cruising. It removes one fuel type to have to carry. Just make sure you also buy the proper cookware to use with it. You will be giving up the oven, unless you add a small convection oven that you can run through the inverter. Just food for thought. As far as watermaker is concern, I am more a fan or the portable Rainman units. They take less space, they are easy to use and maintain, and if for some reason they need service, you take them out to a service center for them to fix. Adding the extra refrigerator and an additional fuel tank, in addition to installing sufficient battery capacity is going to add a lot of weight into that storage room., which may change the balance of the boat. Something to think about. You may be able to get rid of the bench under the Nav station and find a refrigerator that would fit that space. The 349 is a nice coastal cruiser, but it is short on space. A large amount of the available storage space is located on the Port Aft Quarter of the boat, which means everything you add, all the wight will go there. I would advise you to do some research and estimate the additional weight you would be adding to the boat. Here are some examples: If you add AGM Batteries 12/105, they will weight about 66lbs each. A gallon of diesel weighs 7.1 lbs. Lastly, think of it in terms of time, Once you load the boat with the equipment, and you add your personal items, will it still be comfortable for you to go cruising? Does your cruising involves being at sea for more than 2 weeks at a time, or would you go port to port every 5 - 7 days? How will you handle waste (You have to store it until you can get to a place where you can off load it)? Hope the above gives you some food for thought to do you personal evaluation as to whether the 349 is right for you. Best of luck!

    Hi Jose. I really tried to love Catamarans, but turned out that they Really Hate Me. Why ? Well you know Sod's Law always has the Wind Direction coming from the exact direction of your intended direction, going to Windward by Tacking always seems to have the hulls connecting with the waves at different times, which frequrntly results in a really vicious "Bucking Bronco" Motion that seriously does my head in, and on one occasion almost catapulted me over yjr side of the boat. So I recommend everyone intending to get a Catamaran, test them by having the hulls connecting with waves at different times, just to see if they are as badly affected by that motion as I was ? Thankfully, by Default this problem cannot affect Monohulls, Best Wishes. Bob. 🤔🌟🌟🌟👍❤️

      @@HomesBoatsTravelbyJoseTorres Very True Jose. Though presently I am finding a problem finding a Cruising oriented Shallow Draft with no Sailboat Racing Monohull influences and dedicated to Sailing in the Mediterranean, on this side of the Atlantic. I’m not sure - yet - that I can afford to buy a new Island Packet 435, which can be built to accommodate all of my needs. My budget is restricted to Beneteau Group Cruising models which Almost have a Shallow enough Draft. I need to have the fitting out of a recent model done here in the UK, as I can get the Liferafts, Dinghy, flotation devices etc, at reasonable price here, plus work done post full independent Survey done for insurance purposes, prior to crossing over to the Caribbean. I can also have the preliminary Boat Registration done, prior to the Survey for completion in the BVI. So everything can be a legitimate Tax Free Export, as my long term Home Base is going to be in the BVI, plus Hurricane Season Visits up to my friends in Massachusetts, so commuting to and from the Caribbean. Well that’s the Plan anyway.Best Wishes. Bob. 👍🌟🌟🌟🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇬🇧

      I think that trying to get Tax Free is going to cost you more in movement and rigging. If for example you buy a new boat in Florida you sales tax is capped at $18k USD. It will also not require a survey as you are buying a new boat and it is a shorter sail to the BVI. We have a brand new 2023 Jeanneau 490 available at a significant discount. If you would be interested in something like this, please send me an e-mail where I could send you the information.

    • @brownnoise357
      @brownnoise357 Před měsícem

      @@HomesBoatsTravelbyJoseTorres Hi Jose The Tax Free Part comes by Default with an Export to the BVI, which I need to have as a base for about 5 years anyway, but everything Depends for me on an investment in Silver Bullion I made years ago when Silver was really cheap, and which at some point, as it is actually rarer, and far more valuable than Gold, as it is need3d for literally everything in the modern world and the Gold to Silver Ratio is very likely to Reverse ? Sadly, I had my Working Life Pension Pot Tolen, along with everyone else in the West, and I am down a minimum of £25 million as a result, as Our Governments took it to invest in China, which is why China has had the staggering Economic Boom this past 30 plus years. I do .ike the 490 Sailboat very much, and if you still have it - actually I wish you every success in selling it in the meantime- and will get in touch to see what else you have available when I have the Funds - or the metal may be extremely desirable to transact for. However, much may depend on the approaching Election Result in Britain, as if Labour Win, it looks like they are planning to turn us into North Korea 2.0, so I may end up being a Refugee heading to the BVI Anyway. Fingers crossed, the voters wise up in time. Keep Up the Great Work Jose, and my Very Best Wishes to You and Yours. Bob in Wales. 🤔🌟🌟🌟👍

      Worth knowing, if you ever come across one Jose, is In Decades worth of Comparison Testing, the very best Liferafts are those from Seago, and here in Britain, they are less than Half The Price of American ones, they also sell great inflatable Tenders, and a wide range of good sailing gear. So far though they do not export to the USA. It is important to me that all of my onboard Safety gear is well up to USCG standards and Specifications. tbh, I look forward to getting everything right with a Sailboat, if possible via USA, Caribbean, or this side of the Atlantic, and would love another Coastal Cruise down the Atlantic Coast of France, Spain, and Portugal to Gibraltar, which I have visited many times, then down to Cape Verde which I eould love to visit again, before crossing over to the Caribbean. But if I can Fly to Florida, and pick up a Sailboat there, no problem, as that almost happened in 2016, but then found a boat up in Massachusetts. Best Wishes. Bob. 🤔🌟🌟🌟👍❤️

    Hi Jose, thank you for this close look at the Sun Odyssey 410, as it has now xunk in with me that I really need a bigger Sailboat, as I had found a great price on a nearly new 410. Ho Hum. Something probably useful I found on my last trip to the USA to buy a Sailboat - Walmart Powdered milk is as good as the best powdered milk in the world, and came highly recommended by Walmart Customer Reviews. Another good option is Condensed Milk, that can be found in toothpaste tube type containers. Great for in Tea and in Coffee. My last Sailboat I bought was in the USA in 2016, and to be honest, I found food prices shockingly high and far more expensive than in the chronically overpriced European Union. However, there were some Supermarkets still around that had far more reasonable prices, which I used to stock up the boat before leaving USA Territorial Waters,a couple of days before my Visitors Visa Ran Out. I was panicking a bit tbh, but got into the Gulf Stream, heading for Bermuda from Martha’s Vineyard. Best Wishes, and I have just subscribed. Bob in Wales.👍✨✨✨🙂⛵️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇬🇧

    So this is like a 400k boat....... with a weird kitchen setup two weird aft cabins, and two weird wets heads. When in this space you can have one solid master aft, a tool room on the other side, a shower, separate barhroom. Nav table on the correct side, another batheroom (possibly wet head)

      Thank you for your feedback. The boat you see on the video can be purchased at a 10% discount. With regards to the layout, builders are always trying new layouts in an attempt to appeal to different groups of sailors. This particular boat can be ordered in 12 different variations of 2 or 3 cabins. Other models or Jeanneau offer the large aft cabin with the king size centerline berth and a head. Or you could look at something like a Catalina 445 which offers a large aft cabin and a smaller cabin that is convertible to a garage. I have posted videos of that boat on this channel. My point is there is something for everyone based on your ideal boat. Thank you for watching!

    Hello, I would like to inquire if the mooring fee applies to boats that are 40 feet or larger?

    • @HomesBoatsTravelbyJoseTorres
      @HomesBoatsTravelbyJoseTorres Před 2 měsíci

      It depends on the Marina. Some marinas will have a flat fee for mooring balls. Others will charge by the foot. Marina Slips (docks), are usually by the foot length of the boat. That said, recently some marinas have started charging by the size of the slip. For example, if you have a 35 ft boat, but the only slip available is for a 50 ft boat. They will rent it to you but you will have to pay as if your boat measures 50 ft long.

    One of the best boat tour nowadays, thanks for that, but you miss storage capacity under seating area and I think your black water capacity is wrong, that could be 50 liters not 50 gallons... maybe . Finally very important, electricity autonomy or even better, electricity consumption per day in amps. Thanks again and keep doing that awesome job.

    • @HomesBoatsTravelbyJoseTorres
      @HomesBoatsTravelbyJoseTorres Před 3 měsíci

      Thank you for your feedback. In doing more research, it seems the manufacturer does not publish much in terms of holding tank capacity. I was able to find the following: • Black water tank 80 L / 21 US gal, with gravity drain and deck fitting (versions A and B) • Black water tank 130 L / 34 US gal, with gravity drainand deck fitting (versions C and D). Other writings I found say it is 50 gal. Will reach out to Jeanneau to try to get a definitive answer. As far as electric consumption, I will keep that in mind for subsequent videos. Thank you for watching!

      I have found it really useful to work on the amount I use in twelve hours of darkness and the most used then, before the Sun Comes up and the Solar Panels start working again- with the Wind generator often providing a healthy bonus, but with a backup generator as well. I have never exceeded 200 amps in that time- average around 140 amps tbh. But still working on 200 amps is really useful, as with a house Bank of AGM. Very high quality 4500 recharge Cycle Batteries, that means that I can easily keep them above a 20% state of discharge. Why ? Because if those AGM batteries are kept above an 80% state of discharge, and get charged back up to 100% charged asap, those 4500 Cycles Flatline, and do not get used up. That means, that barring accidents, the Service Life of those batteries should exceed Thirty Years ! It is important that the batteries have really good pure Lead plates. As an aside, a Second Bank of the most recent Lifepo4 batteries by Li Time and Power Queen, which have outstanding new BMS and the build quality to stand a 100 amp discharge and Charge rate - though Never treat them that badly - can be used to get the AGM’s back to 100% via using DC to DC chargers, while extending the Service Life of the Lifepo4 batteries whose internals have just become well up to the job. This is a very recent change via BMS hardware is a major breakthrough, and frankly a small battery bank of multiple batteries can dramatically reduce discharge and recharge loads for each individual battery, as Lifepo4 batteries hate rapid charging, and discharging them below 50% hammers their recharge Cycles. They are actually pretty sensitive to Life Shortening Treatment.,but now, it looks as though they can reach the extended Service Life that they couldn’t offer before! I’m thinking of a Bank of three Li Time Plus230 ah batteries should easily cope with the reasonable draw of 0.15 C where C is the total ah of the battery Bank and an identical charging rate keeping everything really low stressed, which formerly was very difficult and not ideal with a 12 volt system, which on boats is pretty important still - otherwise, 48 volts is wonderful onshore tbh. Sharing the loads and keeping them close, can help keep cable amperages very reasonable indeed for 22 volts. I have always liked to keep loads to about a maximum of 50% of Cable load capacity, so cables don’t even get more than slightly warm, so cable resistances never increase. Bob.🤔✨✨✨👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇬🇧

While Island Packets are known for their durability and comfort, they come with a higher price tag due to their robust construction and offshore capabilities. On the other hand, Catalina Yachts and Beneteau Yachts offer a good balance of performance, comfort, and affordability, making them popular choices among sailors seeking value without compromising quality.
