A little video of my trip to the Victorian Goldfields Railway. Lovely staff and a really fun trip. Mostly featuring K190 and a nice sound off between K190 and N465 'City of Ballaarat' which meets the train at the end.

Sad the museum closed down a couple months ago. But I hear they have the funds for a rail trail from Sandgate to Richmond Vale
These people are mental hilarious
So please to find this, as I did have a VHS copy, which I lost.My favorite part is leaving Dagun, and the loco slips, and Dad can be seen leaning from the cab , with the biggest grin .He just loved driving/firing steam loco`s.I get a lump in my throat just watching this.I miss you mate, even after 18 years. He passed away in 2006, from the effects of Cancer,RIP Mate!
Dr. Gerald Silver is totally tone deaf about rail transit; notice his use of incorrect terminology. Since this was made, the Los Angeles Basin has seen an explosion in the construction and operation of rail transit, including Metrolink regional rail services. Dr. Silver comes across as a pompous twit. Professor Martin Wachs in his writings has equated public transit as a form of social welfare, not as an integral public service. Rail transit, by and large, has been successful
Thanks for posting. Brings back GOOD memories to an 80 year old guy.
I live out at coonanna in western Australia, and remember the tea and sugar train and the steam train,my dad was a fettler I was 7 when we moved to Kalgoorlie and then to port Pirie he was a chef on the IP as well as the Ghan .
I remember the rail lines , as I used to work on Thompsons Dairy farm , Called Thompson's Forest ; My late mates Brother in Law worked in the workshops repairing the wooden hoppers , This gent also built a model replica of 3801 , and a replica pf one of J and As steam engines !
The first Standard Gauge Spirit of Progress to Sydney was run by VR Diesel S313 to Albury. This locomotive still runs with Steamrail.
wow I raced that train🎉
Compare these locos with what are seen today , no steam from the funnel .
Great work, lovely footage, the musak reminds me of a lift :-)
I feel privileged to be able to see thus and Im going to watch it over and over.
Thank you for the footage! The stupid state government should have kept them ! It would have been a great tourist attraction!! Lol but then again? When people vote for fools this is what happens! My father did national service 1950s nearly got sent to Malaysia under Robert Menzies who was probably the worst pm in History! I did my time in the RAAF as a kid ! Best times in my life ! Williamtown Darwin & Butterworth ❤❤❤ when you're 23 yrs of age behind a Mirage 3 u feel like you're bullet proof!!! Lol
I use to work as a fetler in wirrappa south australia1974
And now in Méjico
Went to Richmond today with my wife and son , Sad to see those days vanish , at least the kids can still see it for what it once was .
I dont believe this line will ever reopen but i hope im wrong. Its good to see that the so called Dorrigo steam museum at least has the stock saved but i think there is to much of it and no money to restore it., i think ylu could easily sink $100million in that place and it would still be nlt enough, also who iis going to do the work. As far as the line is concerend kt was probably madness to have built the line , it has suffered from washouts, rock falls, etc, and it would be a money pit to get going.
Excellent video. I remember riding these trams as a child growing up in Sydney.

I wonder if harry is the guy in that other commercial that orders a new exhaust via trackfast...
7:17 seconds, what a sound!
I had sex on the monorail after a night out at the Craig many many years ago now.. Oh what a great memory, its a pity I was by myself at the time...
In fact this is very much the same as parts of northern China coal mines today.
30 yrs or so later it was all torn down and they couldn't give it away. 😅
There is a two part doco on CZcams describing the debacle that existed around the Dorrigo Rail Museum made in the 80's. Whenever I drive past the sidings everything seems to be still sitting there rotting away. I believe by now most of the enthusiasts and the protagonist would be deceased or close to it. Reading the threads with this video it would appear it's still a poo fight. Full of egos, dreamers and autocrats.
Just the opening soundtrack and images take me back to my early 20's. Wonderful days. Time is a cruel master.
I think we have gone backwards from when this series was made. Well spoken, informative documentary and I can't help but notice how nobody appears to be in a rush or are angry in their demeanor. Australia was once a very laid back and welcoming place. I wonder what happened to us.
how brain dead would one need to be to think helicopters would replace private cars lol, so many issues arise for me in that mere 24 seconds of black and white film lol
Happy 30th anniversary to steam extravaganza
They had a similar style commercial for Sydney Ferries a few years later.
Family Home Entertainment brought this video to America in 1990, following its release of Steam Trains in Sugarcane in 1988, and Coal, Steal & Gravel in N.S.W. in 1989.
I'm amazed they still used wagons without air brakes in the 1980s. I thought the only place they still did that at the time was on Thomas The Tank Engine.
Family Home Entertainment distributed this video in America in 1995, along with Aus Steam '88 in 1990, Steam Trains in Sugar Cane in 1989 and Coal, Gravel and Steel in N.S.W. in 1988, with special permission from Rowling Stock Productions.
Forgot about that newsreader.
Budapest East Terminal station is part of the world that the railroads has made!

Great stuff, thank you.

what did happren to the pld zoo train do rember seeing it years ago doing bugger all
0:09 Hmm I wonder if the reward still stands .? 13:03 Is he servicing the engine or sabotaging it.? Unfortunate body language .
Doubt he is, probably checking the rods
Very very sneakily. @@MrTankThatStopped
@@arch9enius well, he did look taller than the driving wheels, and with the height of the 38's running board, could be plausible that he's maintaining the work of art
I noticed his height on second viewing.. Just a shame that he's now recorded for posterity creeping like Nosferatu.. He probably didn't even get to work on the footplate at that point in time either . @@MrTankThatStopped
@@arch9enius huh
I rode on this bus as a kid living in Shitney. I loved this bus and still do.
How come they were boarding thru the exit dorway?
What a shame they were taken away - kudos to you Melbourne - you kept yours

A few years ago I found this on CZcams; With tears streaming down my face:- On December 28th 2022, my dad was dying, I don’t know why, but I selected this video as I had remembered it from youtube being uploaded my dad held out and was able to listen to the entire documentary then passed away surrounded by myself and brother holding his hand I thankyou for uploading this video as if it hadn’t of been uploaded I couldn’t have enabled my dad to listen to it Dad loved his trains particularly and NSW heritage type R.I.P V.Williamson ❤

I reckon Charlie would have passed on yonks ago given his heavy smoking habit. Interesting episodes about Australia's iconic railways and passenger services.
Great series! Thanks for sharing. When TV had a lot more informative content and well made. Love how the carriage condition of the old Australind looks worse than the Gulflander!
