What do Projectionists do? | Jacob Tutt
This was a very special episode for us to film. Jacob Tutt, the owner of The Playhouse Cinema in Hamilton Ontario, let us go behind the scenes to capture the process of projecting a 35mm film print.
The Playhouse Cinema, at the time of recording, was celebrating it's 110th anniversary. There is something intangibly special about watching a movie in a place with so much history. In our short time there we actually watched three.
Jacob showed us what goes into projecting 35mm prints, from inspection, to cleaning the projectors, feeding the film, and finally showcasing the film itself. It was a magical process and I hope you enjoy watching it as much as we did.
We understand this is not a job that many people will ever get to experience, but I believe there are many lessons to learn from Jacob's story. In business, it's extremely important to be passionate about what you're doing. If you're not, your audience will feel it. Secondly, be unique! In school we're often taught to follow rules and fall into the norms, but it hurts your chances to stand out. The Playhouse Cinema is one of very few theatres left still projecting film, and it has gained a following because of it.
This episode was filmed on the traditional territories of the Erie, Neutral, Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee and Mississaugas.
Filmed with the Canon EOS R6mkii and Canon R7.

For another perspective, I started with a design/build firm right out of school making a minimal salary but got lots of field experience in construction. Then moved to public practice, made a bit more money, but the benefits were huge. Also my pay grew quickly by the year as did my responsibilities. Best part was the teamwork I encountered in public service with architects, engineers, biologists, hydrologists, archeologists and ecologists working together to create and build amazing structures and restore ecosystems. Public service can be quite satisfying.

Well, it is true that not as many women do an audio engineering as there is men, but why does somebody sexual orientation matter when you’re making music? I’ve been an audio professional for 38 years and I have worked with so many gay people throughout my career, I think that statement was inaccurate. Who you choose to sleep with should only come up if you’re planning to be intimate with someone. Your sexual preference should never matter when you’re trying to be a professional. So just drop it please. Nobody cares. We really don’t and we never have.

Adam, my success as a landscape architect and planner in a Federal agency was largely due to a teammate whose masters degree was in Geospatial Science. .He was invaluable to me and the planning team based on his ability to research applicable GIS data and accurately map many types of data (some only available to him through his military background). Our team's success was due in a large part to accurately identifying important associations of natural resources, population and development data to arrive at successful design solutions. I'd suggest that you try those design classes and see if being an LA might be your future.

Wow this turned into a liberal propaganda video pretty quick. Why do people always have to bring gender and race into every thing now a days. This is the reason these "issues" exist. Most people really don't care honestly. But when it's brought up very two seconds and has nothing to do with the topic at hand it becomes just redundant. There's always been women and queer people in music. People are just blind.

Many nights of studio tan and the sleeping bag in the break room. Commitment was everything, run cables, move mikes, get more 2", degauss heads, get coffees, sit in the half darkness for hours, just watching. Completely different these days

@@wdyd.series how long is a piece of string..lol The sound engineer market is saturated, has been for ages, you cannot depend on making a living out of it, you're better off having a Uber or something as a flexible main gig and mix on the side, it took a very good mate and legendary engineer 6 years to make it in Vancouver, which hosted some of the finest and most popular studios in Canada at that time. The job is to realise the artist's vision, you are that conduit, nothing more. I had a client who wasn't satisfied with his acoustic sound, so I plastered four piezo mikes on the walls along with the X-Y close mikes and a U-87 four feet away, that fixed that. That's your training and thinking outside the box you have to know. Stuff like that.. But reality is I'm older and irrelevant now, go out and make the mistakes, learn from them and move on... Stay humble
