I will show you how to make high quality stainless steel leather stamps dirt cheap.
How do you get the knurling on the shaft of the bolt. You didn't show it in your other video either.
Awesome tutorial!!! What kind of belt is that on the sander/grinder?
Hello, I’m just starting to gather information on leatherwork, I’ve worked with making other kinds of tools….anyway. Do you work harden/heat treat these stamps? Would it make a difference or would that just be overkill in this case?
Hola, lindo video. Lo que no entiendo es porque comenzó con un tornillo con rosca y cuando lo llevó a la lijadora tenía un serigranado. Lo hizo usted o cambio el tornillo por otro material para hacer el burel?
Why are things out of focus?
It is not the same bolt you started with there is no kneral on bolts
how did the knurling happen?
Thanks for sharing ! You make it look so easy. I know your expertise has been developed slowly over time and I appreciate your willingness to share your insights and knowledge. Would you be willing to sahre the make anf model of the sanding machine you use ? Thanks again !
2:44 no knurling on the bolt shank. 3:09 the shank is knurled! Where did the knurling come from? No sign of a lathe! 🙄
Hey guy ..i was just wondering if you thought or tried doing one more step and that running it back and forth on your leather strothing board? (and i know i spelt that wrong ) along with your rouge? as iv done this and it just gives the piece that new professional look .
How do we get ahold of you?
Good Video, but how did you get the GRIP PATTERN on the bolt?
Umm if i may point out you didnt or dont mention how you knaraled it ..on a lathe i assume..?
Sir what type of bolt has this none slip checkering half way down it? I have never seen that before How did halfway threes this video you go from a bolt to a nice stamp tool blank
Cross hatching?
That's a very nice job of magic knurling at 2:49 - you should do a slow motion of that.
hahaha.. good point. I also noticed that miracle.
Enjoyed your videos. Are you still on here? Have you made textured bevelers or pear shaders? Thanks for sharing.
where did the knurl shaft come from it suddenly appeared between 2:13 and 2: 50 on the video !!!!
That was great would like to see more vids on this
Спасибо было очень интересно!
please ..l need the disegn
NICE
Wow that's a pretty precise looking tool you made, great job!
Hey Joshua, Nice video. Really like it. But, can you make more other tools? I think we all can make a pear shape one. We need to see better ones? Cause there are other tools. We want to know? Thanks againS
You can buy a handheld knurling tool. Not expensive.
Where ? I have looked for a handheld knurling tool and they cost a fortune and are not that good, they barely scratch the metal
Great video thanks! Have you any size of the tool? I've made this beveler but at hand (no machine). And idk I feel it too heavy. I've used a 9mm screw. Its head after done 10 x 9mm
i went order boss
Just a suggestion, use a multi grade honing bar rather than sand paper....save a lot of money on the long run rather than spend the constant for sand paper...thanks for the post ...
it just appeared and only $3000 for a lathe to do the knurling'
hello, first of all a big thank you for these two videos! I'm trying to do stamping tools for a while and your videos are a great help! I am surprised comments below that do not even bother to say thank you!!!! I wanted to ask you what was the grain of the paper on your belt sander? is the paper special? it seems to heat little and I do not notice any spark
I guess by "series of videos" he means 2. And thats not a grinder, its a belt sander. aye yi yi
Can't believe you didn't stamp any leather with it at the end of the video
Thanks!
Where oh where did you find crocus cloth? That's hard to find nowadays.
What kind of bolt was that?
If I recall correctly it was a 1/4" x 4.5 inches. Got it from a big box store. Might have been 3/8" x 5. Nothing really special about it. Probably 303.
Thanks for telling us about the knurling ... Like a dummy I was looking for ss bolts with that on it....hahahaha. I finally came back and read the rest of the comments.. Thanks for the lessons ... Anyone who works leather needs to make a few personal stamps..
bich
Se puede tambien pulir con polvo de cement8 o yeso y un trozo de piel
I had not thought of that but it is certainly a work around if you don’t have sandpaper. Thanks
Como faço para comprar esse produto
No idea. Thanks for watching
Thank you. A real craftsman.
Thank you. Your compliment is greatly appreciated.
Excellent video! Can you temper these stamps and and use for metal work also?
I am not sure if they can be tempered. I think they work harden a bit as you make them. Might be enough to work on softer metals. Thanks for watching.
Are you not telling us how you did the knurled surface on the bolt. It sort of just appeared???? Nice video but unless you show the entire story how do we know the bolt you started with is the same as the finished tool. I'm not trying to be a jerk but the kneeling is a pretty major part of the finished tool and you didn't show that part. Am I the only curious one?? Thanks anyway though, it came out nice either way. Knurling PLEASE?????? 😃
Waveluth, he used a metal cutting lathe. Said so in a reply to a previous comment. Hope this helps you.
Hello All, Im curious and would like to know how many of you have actually tried this and how it worked for you. Thanks!
It works excellent when u need a certain stamp..and don't have or can't get, very quick I needed a triangle and couldn't get 1 for 4 days so had to make one..
Have made my own from landscaping spikes
The knurling?
The knurling is the checked grip on the handle. I hope this answers your question and thanks for watching.
Yes, I know what the knurling is. LOL I was asking how you did it? Sorry I wasn't more clear.
Haha. No problem. The knurling is done on a metal lathe. There are hand knurlers available but they will not do a continuous knurl. There are a bunch of lathe knurling videos on youtube that show how it is done.
10-4. So it doesn't appear to be something that one could do without a lathe.
Correct
Great video. I've bought a few stamps I had to have at 30 bucks that are near impossible to make because of the detail. Making simpler ones this is indispensable. Showing how this can be done simply and easily is fantastic.
very nice ... but I bet getting that electrical grinder will be more expensive than buying all the tools I need :/
I really appreciate it. At this time the grinder is about $45 at our favorite discount tool store :) so I guess it depends on how many tools you need and where you are getting them. Thanks for watching!
I assume you are in the US ... to get the same thing here where I live, you need multiply the price by 5 to 10 x lol
What kind of stainless are you using? 304? 316?
The bolts I use are common off the shelf type so I believe it is an 18-8 type 304. The 316 is for more corrosive environments and would be a more specialized and expensive bolt. Thanks for watching.
Hi, I don't know if this helps but 303 is supposed to be free cutting or free machining. I'm not a metal expert - this is just someting I picked up in my travels thru the net. I don't even know if there are bolts made in 303. What I heard was that 303 has a higher sulfur content and that makes it easier to work but at the expense of corrosion resistance, which for what we want would not really matter. Kind regards, John
how did you do the Knurling ? it seem it just suddenly appeared ??
Hello, The knurling is done on a metal lathe. There are hand knurlers available but they will not do a continuous knurl. Thanks for watching.
Wait, your using only hand tools, but off camera you use a metal lathe ?
There are a few videos on YT about knurling without a lathe (Though only three made by the same guy). Look for the videos titled "without a lathe knurled screw" 1-3.
Excellent video but how do you record the chisel handle and make it non-slip?
The recording is called and knurling is done on a metal lathe. There are hand knurlers availiable but they will not do a continuous knurl. There are other methods to make grip though. I have seen people chuck up a stamp in a drill press and use 30 grit sandpaper to give it some texture for grip or use sports tape. Thanks for watching.
I've looking for a while about how to do this. Keep it up. I would like to know how do you get the tooling pattern on the shaft of the bolt. The video doesn't show that.
The knurling is done on a metal lathe. There are hand knurlers availiable but they will not do a continuous knurl and they are relatively expensive. Thanks for watching.
Do you think SS bolts would do for blanks? They have them cheap at the local salvage store. The threading would do for knurling....You have a better system here than most Thanks.
Yes, stainless steel bolts are what I use for the blanks. For knurling the threads may be too aggressive on the hands. I have seen alternative methods for adding grip. Placing the bolt in a drill press and using 40-60 grit sandpaper on the handle (be careful using this method) to create a texture for gripping or just wrapping the handle in cloth athletic tape. I hope that answers your questions. Thanks.
