      Hi, I'm not sure it's been a while. If it's regular head cement that's all it is if it's UV resin then it's fly finish "flow".

    I am awaiting my first Tenkara rod, a Yari. I have wondered if it would be sacrilege to use an indicator. I have worked out a great indicator using a hopper. I use the small-size rubber football slip cork stopper that comes on the wire loop. You can get 1,200 on Amazon for $9.00. I carefully feed the rubber stopper onto the hook, the wire loop pointing toward the eye of the hopper. Feed the line through the eye of the hopper (without tying) , then through the loop, and pull a foot or so of tippet through. Using the wire loop carefully pull the line through the stopper. Then tie on your nymph. Now, you have a hopper that can easily be moved up and down the line but still have sufficient friction to get a hook set if the fish decides to hit the hopper instead. It is a bit fiddly when you first do it but you get the hang of it pretty quick. The hopper makes a more natural presentation than most indicators.

    🌴So like you I don’t think you have to spend big money to enjoy saltwater fly fishing , I have a bunch of fly rods from 5 wt to 12 wt , the ( new ) 12 wt is an ugly stick 9’ with a Okuma 11-12 wt reel and a Orvis line on it , total cost 🤔about $230 bucks , I also bought a new 9-10 wt Cortland combo from Walmart it had backing and a floating WF line on it for $70 bucks , my most recent buy was an 8 wt Hurricane- Redbone - 9’ - 2 pc rod for $15 bucks looks new at a flea market and a temu 8 wt reel for $10 bucks total $25.00 ( the line cost more than the rod and reel ) 🫲🏼😳🫱🏼 the backing and line a Cortland 8 WTF floating line was $27.00 - total $52.00 dollars and it casts great ! I think that there is a lot of hype with the big dollar brands , and I’ve never had any of the fish I catch complain about being caught on low budget fly fishing stuff yet 👍🏼😆. Tight lines !

    Robbie, Take some time to read a little more about tenkara. I don't think you have done your homework on what tenkara is. Your points about tenkara were a mixed bag of half truths and fiction. You may fish your tenkara rod any way you wish. But please remember that fishing tenkara is something very specific. You did cover this in you comments with regard to mountain streams and trout. I too have fished tenkara on a lake / pond. In those cases I would never say I was "fishing tenkara" however "fishing a lake with tenkara." You also said "Technically tenkara isn't fly fishing.. Not that anybody is keeping track." Wrong. Tenkara predates western fly fishing and is absolutely a form of fly fishing. Consider doing a little homework as I said and understand that when we don't use words with the right definition we run the risk of misinformation. I hope that those who watch this video will do their own deeper study into tenkara as it offers a very wonderful way to fly fish. You killed it with the talapia and wow! You were worried about the line.. I was worried about your rod. :) Best wishes, Dennis

Had to say something because I stand with the integrity of the form. Best wishes! Tilapia are good eating on tacos. :) Not sure about pond fed ones.

    I always love fishing for bass with plastic worms rigged Texas style with a light cone weight pegged to the line with a toothpick. Makes for a super weedless and snag free setup! BTW Robbie, ya gotta start grabbing the bass by their bottom jaw so you won’t catch a dorsal spine! And it kinda “paralyses” them so they stay still

    • @stevewalcott9546

      I’ve eaten tilapia but never fished for them. I googled tilapia diet and it looks like they’re vegetarian mostly, but you caught them on worms so I don’t know! Carp are vegetarian too and I know you can catch them on the fly. I think people use streamers for carp, don’t know about drys, good luck! Since they eat algae, maybe try an olive wooly bugger!

    • @robbiesflytyingchannel
      @robbiesflytyingchannel Před 4 měsíci

      Ya, I researched it also. You can you can catch them on peas, corn, and bread balls also. I do see them come up to the surface eating little bugs and plus it seems like they spend most of their time near the surface so I'm going to try it for sure today.

    • @stevewalcott9546
      @stevewalcott9546 Před 4 měsíci

      Absolutely! They only allow sockeyes to be taken by fly, whether your rod/reel is a “fly rod” doesn’t matter as long as your terminal tackle is a fly. You fish them with a fairly heavy weight and about 3 or 4’ of leader that keeps the fly close to the bottom.
