      It could be an issue with the motor itself, something preventing the foot section from moving downward, the central "brain" of your base unit, or maybe even the remote control. Best to contact the customer service number for your adjustable bed for their best suggestions of what to check.

    • @BeducationMattress
      @BeducationMattress Před 2 měsíci

      The serial number is located 1) on the front of the owner's manual; 2) on the back of the remote control; and 3) on the underside of the base at the head or foot end of the metal frame. On some models, it may be necessary to raise the head or foot to see the sticker on the frame. Split King bases will have two serial numbers.

    What does it mean if the backlights do not light or chirp? It is a new remote??

    • @BeducationMattress
      @BeducationMattress Před 4 měsíci

      If you have a new remote for this base (and it is the proper remote), the first thing you need to do is affiliate the remote with the base (follow the instructions in the video to perform this: czcams.com/video/vNWKGC2EGB0/video.html ). Once the remote is affiliated with the base and you have confirmed the operation, you can then program it to for One-Touch operation, or change the Memory Positions (the 2 programming procedures that would result in the massage motors chirping and the lights on the remote going on that you mentioned). If you're not able to program the remote for these features, off the top of my head I would think that you may not be properly following the instructions in the video and holding the appropriate buttons for the correct amount of time, the batteries in your remote might not be fully powered, or you may have an incorrect remote for this base (you say it is a new remote). Or, perhaps you have a newer version of this base and the instructions have changed from when I made this video. You can find user guides and videos for specific bases (you'll need your base serial number) on the Leggett and Platt website here: support.lpadjustablebeds.com/user-guide-video Those are my best guesses with the limited information you've provided. I hope that helps.

    The ONLY thing I got out of this is to look for a 4 pound density memory foam. I wish there were more specifics of what to look for and less scientific jargon and telling you to do your research. We need more info on exact targets and goals and to tell me about what to look for on the “componentry on the inside” instead of telling us to learn about the componentry on the inside. That’s why I’m HERE. I only learned one thing. I guess that’s better than nothing.

    • @BeducationMattress
      @BeducationMattress Před 6 měsíci

      With Talalay latex, it's not so much the brand, but the producer of the Talalay latex foam. I personally wouldn't have an issue with Talalay latex from either Vita Talalay or Talalay Global. Those would be two of the more common suppliers of Talalay latex to the USA market.

    • @BeducationMattress
      @BeducationMattress Před 6 měsíci

      Pure Talalay Bliss as a brand is gone (you can read yourself to sleep if you want to go through the most recent bankruptcy documents of Talalay Global). Artilat bought Talalay Global from bankruptcy I believe in 2020. There were a few licensees who agreed to produce the PLB line, such as Eclipse did for a bit (here's an old article about that bedtimesmagazine.com/2020/11/eclipse-natural-dreams-pure-talalay/ ), I think before the sale to Artilat. There were other mattress licensees who chose to make all-latex mattresses using specs similar to the old PTB line, as well. I don't know if Pleasant Mattress (producer of Vivant) had such an agreement to make PTB beds, or just made some models that mimicked the specs.

    Hey Jeff, I'm another Aussie who's literally taking notes and consecutively studying each of your videos on bedding components (I've yet to begin reading "The Mattress Underground" website but will eventually make my way to it as well). Having read through the comment section, I can say not much has changed since @lizbilson6602 has posted. It's absolutely impossible to find a reputable mattress retailer which specifies the exact details such as ILD/IFD or even spring gauges, let alone anything else remotely detailed beyond simple titles, such as "contains comfort foam". The lack of transparency between major outlets and online retailers is significantly overwhelming.

    • @BeducationMattress
      @BeducationMattress Před 6 měsíci

      I'm sorry that you're having a difficult time in Australia finding a retailer who is transparent about componentry. A few years back I did a bit of a deep dive for someone in Australia, and I was able to find some retailers who were quite transparent about their products, but I no longer have those notes. So don't give up looking. I would say that IFD/ILD is more of a comfort specification and not something that necessarily relates to quality and durability, and the gauge of steel of the spring unit is just one of the 8 or so descriptors of an innerspring that gives you a bit of information about it (but the spring unit usually isn't the weak link within a mattress). The mattress shopping tutorial you mentioned on the TMU website is a good reference for providing more specifics as to what you should focus upon, and I'd encourage you to read through that and keep it as a reference.

    • @BeducationMattress
      @BeducationMattress Před 9 měsíci

      The term "relatively nontoxic" isn't an objective standard for which an item can be tested (although most people I think would get the gist of what you're meaning), so standards like CertiPUR-US do have some specific things for which they test (which I think most people would agree are good things to evaluate). If the polyurethane FOAMS used in a mattress are CertiPUR-US certified, it means that they are: -made without PBDEs -made without heavy metals -made without formaldehyde -made without phthalates regulated by CPSC -low VOC certified (< .5 ppm) -made without ozone depleters certipur.us/ has more complete details on the testing process and actual requirements for foams to meet these standards.

      I'm pretty sure all of my videos are still posted online, although some may have been re-shot. The adjustable bed base videos are specific to the actual adjustable bed base model and not the remote, as instructions vary by model, so if you know the model of your adjustable bed base you can search the channel based upon that. The thumbnail photo may have been changed over the years, so that may not be the best way to search.

  • @naselmes
    @naselmes Před 10 měsíci

    You said it's not useful for a salesperson if the client is unclear about their demands, but a good salesperson helps the customer understand what they (don't know they) are looking for. You like to buy a car? Sure, what is important for you in a car? Do you have kids? Where do you stand on safety? What is your budget? etc..

    • @BeducationMattress
      @BeducationMattress Před 10 měsíci

      Maybe go back and watch the video again to become more clear as to what was really being discussed. The video is explaining some of the big mistakes that people make when looking for a mattress, and how this customer had absolutely no interest in learning about what things to consider when making a quality purchase. Of course a salesperson has the job of attempting to extract the actual needs/wants of the consumer, and then finding something that has the appropriate componentry to meet those needs.

    Can this frame be used to go around an adjustable bed base...without the center rail?

    • @BeducationMattress
      @BeducationMattress Před 11 měsíci

      No, this is not the type of a frame to go around the perimeter of an adjustable bed base. I'm not too sure why you'd want to do that, as this frame is used to support a box spring as well as a mattress, and as such there would be no use for it if somehow you'd place it under an adjustable bed base, as adjustable beds don't use a box spring. Maybe you're thinking of a frame that would connect to both a headboard and a footboard (what is commonly called a rail system), and many people do choose to place their adjustable bed bases within the perimeter of a bed set (headboard, footboard and rails to connect them). The only other thing that I can think of is that maybe you're considering attaching a headboard to this frame, giving your adjustable bed base the look of having a headboard. But if this is the case, it won't work well, as you need the weight of the box spring and mattress placed upon the bed frame to stabilize things. So, COULD you place this bed frame underneath an adjustable bed base? Quite possibly, depending upon the location of the legs of your adjustable bed base and how much they are recessed from the side edges. Another thing to consider, depending upon the height up your adjustable bed base legs, is there could be a possibility of the frame interfering with the articulation of the adjustable bed base. But most of all, I'm curious as to why you're considering such a move. Maybe you're considering something unique that I've never run across, and if so, knowing what that might be I can be more accurate and specific in my reply.

    So if it’s not lifting does that mean the air is going through it? And if it’s lifting it must mean the air isn’t going through it but pushing the cubes up? What about the weight

    • @BeducationMattress
      @BeducationMattress Před rokem

      If the cubes are floating up, that means that air is moving through the foam beneath the cubes (the fan is located beneath the foam piece that is beneath the cubes) to push the foam cubes up (hence, the foam has better airflow properties). If the foam cubes don't move, that means that the piece of foam beneath the cubes doesn't flow air very well. I don't know the mass of the foam cubes - they're very light pieces of polyurethane foam. The demonstration shows that in general, latex foam rubber flows air better than visco-elastic memory foam.

    • @BeducationMattress
      @BeducationMattress Před rokem

      Most adjustable bed bases are able to fit within the perimeter of a headboard/footboard bed set. You'd have to measure the inside dimensions of the bed set in question, and compare that to your adjustable bed base. Adjustable bed bases tend to be very similar in size to the foundation / box spring they replace.

      @BeducationMattress Před rokem

      You've given no specific context as to how the FS appears on the label, the brand name, or the model name, so I have no idea what that abbreviation might represent. Sometimes manufacturers will abbreviate parts of the title of a mattress name on the law label, as they are limited in the number of characters they may use. For example, they might use ET for Eurotop, PT for Pillowtop, or any other unlimited number of abbreviations, some of which may only make sense to them internally in their record keeping. Maybe your mattress is part of a Four Seasons line (there are a few manufacturers who make lines labelled as such) and the FS is an abbreviation for that. Your question would be best addressed to the retailer where you purchased your mattress - they should be more familiar with that.

      @@BeducationMattress Pretty sure it is Floor Sample.

    • @BeducationMattress
      @BeducationMattress Před rokem

      It's a possibility. Again, your retailer would be best suited to give an accurate answer to your question. Usually, if an item is ordered specifically as a floor sample, it is usually noted on the label on the plastic bag and/or any inventory control label tagged to the mattress - quite often stamped or hand written (every factory has different protocols). It's not usually part of the actual name on the law label, as this could potentially be problematic, appearing as a different mattress than the actual model it represents, possibly requiring proof of a separate burn test for that specifically named mattress. If you get a mattress from a brick and mortar location and it has an inventory tag that is labelled as a floor sample, it doesn't necessarily mean that it was indeed used as a floor model. Some retailers will put out a backstock item as a floor model if there's an empty spot on their floor and they're still waiting for an item that they specifically ordered as a floor sample. I've done this in the past at my store. And then the mattress ordered in as a floor model is simply sold off as backstock, as it's generally no different than the normal backstock item (sometimes it has extra embroidery on it to look nicer as a display piece). But this is all speculation on my part - I wasn't part of your transaction and can't speak for your retailer, and I don't generally like to deal in hypotheticals, as I don't find them to be particularly productive. And a reputable retailer wouldn't be substituting an actually used floor model mattress if a customer ordered a brand-new item, as mattresses used as floor models are often discounted because of the wear and tear on them, and they quite often don't come with a manufacturer's warranty.

      Your question is more appropriately something you should direct toward a health care professional. Maybe you have a sensitivity to something in the mattress, maybe not. • @BeducationMattress
      @BeducationMattress Před rokem

      "Quality" is a quite subjective and non-specific term, often described as the ability of a product to perform the task expected of it. And expectations will of course vary by the individual. Most flexible polyurethane foam companies produce a myriad of foams for many different purposes and durabilities, with some being proprietary blends at the request of specific clients, and some will have unique foams of their own creation with specific properties and characteristics. As a layperson, you'll never expect to find a complete listing of all of the products that foam pourers produce. If you were a manufacturer of a product requiring a specific type of foam, at that point you'd be able to get a better idea of the offerings of a specific company if you were meeting with them about a potential supplier relationship. Generally, the easiest way most consumers rate the "quality" of a foam is by learning the density of that foam, with higher density flexible polyurethane foams generally having a better durability than their lower density counterparts.

    • @BeducationMattress
      @BeducationMattress Před rokem

      For overall durability, it is important to look at the complete innerspring unit as a whole, versus the individual spring. But when evaluating an individual spring, there are more things to consider than gauge of wire. Generally, the lower the pitch (more turns) within a spring, the more wire the spring will use and the more durable and softer it will be. Increasing the wire thickness (decreasing the gauge) will generally result in a stiffer spring and more durability when comparing two springs using the same design but only changing wire thickness. A smaller spring mean diameter generally results in a stiffer spring. Taller springs with the same pitch tend to be a bit softer. There are some innerspring units where the manufacturer specializes in creating a very durable plush comfort through unique geometry and gauge of steel, off the top of my head, such as the Cortec from Harrison Spinks and the Flexecore from HSM, necessitating the use of less foam to achieve comfort.

    I purchased a mattress at a locally owned store that says I have 30 days ( which I assume means to get a refund but I think it’s for an exchange)..I spent an hour in the store trying out 2 mattresses. Ended up buying one, got it home and it didn’t feel the same. It felt very unsupportive like I was sleeping on an air/blowup mattress. I went back to the store and the salesman steered me in getting the other one which was more $ but did feel nice and supportive. A few days later I get it delivered and it doesn’t feel like the same quality that I laid on in the store… I sank way too much. I’m reading the very small print on my receipt and it says no refunds. Is there a way to get my money back? I’ve spent $2100 on a mattress that is not what I thought I was getting. Any advice on how to deal with this?.

    • @BeducationMattress
      @BeducationMattress Před rokem

      First off - Always learn about a company's return or exchange program (if it has one) and fully understand it BEFORE you make a purchase - don't assume. Your paperwork should have more complete details about this, and I'm sure the store itself could clarify for you. If you get a mattress home (and you're stating mattress and not a set, so I'm assuming you purchased the mattress alone without a foundation), and it feel drastically different from the showroom model, the first thing to check would be the law tag to make sure that you were delivered the correct product. Mistakes, while rare, can certainly happen. Also, check to make sure that the floor model in the store is the actual representation of what was being delivered, and that it isn't a previous generation model and that there have been running changes in product design since it was put out. Most stores are good about keeping their floor models current. As you're complaining that both mattresses are sinking too much, my first thought would be to look at what you're placing the mattresses upon as being incorrect and unsupportive. If you're using an older foundation, checking that it is rigid, flat and firm would be the first thing I'd do. Next, if you're using a metal bed frame or a bed set, make sure that there is adequate support underneath, especially in the center, and that the support being used is reinforced so that it doesn't allow for anything to sag. It would be odd that both of the mattresses you received were incorrect, and as you're complaining about the same sinking phenomenon about both mattresses, my mind would go right away to what was under the mattresses as being the culprit and a place to start investigating. You could place the mattress directly upon the floor and see if it feels more supportive. If it does, then focus upon your existing frame and/or foundation as being the issue. As for the store not offering a refund, if that's their policy (which is a common policy for something that is a personal item like a mattress) and it's what you agreed to when you made your initial purchase, a recourse would be to speak with the store manager to see if they might make an exception for you or could come to your home to investigate. One way in which you might be able to get a refund would be if the store was shown to not have held up their end of the agreement by delivering an incorrect product, or that something they delivered was defective. Those would be my thoughts with the very limited information I have. Hopefully that's helpful.

      @@BeducationMattress thanks for the reply! I will definitely ask about refund policy in the future. He never mentioned that I couldn’t return it so I assume the 30 days was a trial. All stores that I visited prior to this one had return policies that were over 100 days, so lesson learned. As for the foundation, I bought the foundation along with the mattress so it’s new. I checked the law tag and the date that it was manufactured was 1/9/23 and it got delivered 1/11/23. It was sewn over a yellow tag that I can’t read too well. Something about it not being flame resistant. Anyway, thanks for the reply!

    • @BeducationMattress
      @BeducationMattress Před rokem

      Regarding refund/return policies, if that's something which is very important in your decision making process, you'll want to get exact details before making a purchase. Don't assume. If the foundation is new with the mattress set, you need to make sure that whatever frame you're using has an appropriately reinforced center support in the middle. A frame without appropriate center support reinforcement will cause center sag in a mattress. As for law tags, you need to read exactly what they say. The normal law tag on a mattress will be white. I'm not sure why there would be a separate law tag saying that the item ISN'T flame resistant (FR), as mattresses need to pass 16 CFR Part 1632 and 1633 FR standards, unless you've made specific arrangements with the manufacturer and provided appropriate medical notes allowing them to make a mattress specifically for you without FR material. Usually the tag states that the mattress DOES comply with all FR regulations. A yellow tag, in addition to the normal white law tag, at least where I'm at in Michigan, usually denotes a product using second hand materials. It may be different in your area - so check that out. Take the time to read exactly what is on each law tag instead of guessing what it might say. If you're buying something from a store that sells remanufactured mattresses with used materials, then this could be an explanation for the difference in comfort. But you've not made any mention of this.

      I'd stay away from "opinions" and instead focus on facts and any certifications that the specific pieces of foam you're comparing might have met. For example, most latex foam rubber (synthetic, natural, or blended) would be able to pass a common worldwide "safety standard" such OEKO-TEX 100 Class I. There are also flexible polyurethane foams manufactured that are OEKO-TEX certified, but at various Product Class levels. There are other certifications out there in the industry, with some pertaining to specific componentry within a mattress and others pertaining to a finished product, and they test for different things - it's important to learn about the specifics of any certification you might be considering and if it actually tests for items that are specific to your personal concerns. You can learn what OEKO-TEX is about and what it tests for by visiting their website here: www.oeko-tex.com/en/our-standards/oeko-tex-standard-100 . Many OEKO-TEX suppliers are listed here: www.oeko-tex.com/en/buying-guide . It's important to know the definition of off-gassing and VOCs. In order to properly analyze the quality of any mattress, you first need to know detailed information of the componentry comprising the product. Specifically, you'd want to find out the density of the foams used within the mattress, as the density is the main/simplest way of determining the durability of the comfort of the mattress. Unfortunately, Aireloom (like many mattress brands) doesn't tend to be too forthcoming with the density specifications of their products, and neither are most of the retailers carrying their mattresses (although there are a few here and there who do post densities). As a consumer, there's no way you can make an educated mattress purchase decision without such information, and I'd advise that you procure this information from your local retailer before making any buying decision, as it's the only way you can make an accurate choice for the quality/durability/appropriateness of a mattress to make sure it meets your expectations. I haven't performed a deep dive on the current Coppertech Silver line, so I'm sorry that I can't provide any accurate details. @BeducationMattress Před rokem

      Unfortunately, there's no way that I could make any sort of educated or accurate suggestion for a mattress for you via the internet with the tens of thousands of different mattresses available in the marketplace. It's more about finding componentry that's appropriate. For motion isolation, pocketed spring units can be a good choice, and comfort materials that include higher density memory foam and higher density (but not too hard) polyurethane foam can also be assistive. A bed frame that is very solid, or even better a platform bed base, will also assist greatly in minimizing motion transfer. Side sleepers tend to prefer something that has a surface comfort that contours a bit for the shoulders and the hips/waist, and back sleepers tend to desire a surface comfort that allows for some contouring of the seat/low back area. From a sleep ergonomic perspective, you want to find something that has "just enough" plushness to do the job (the biggest mistake people make is choosing something too soft). Learn about the componentry within the mattress, and for durability look for comfort layers using higher density polyurethane foams (> 1.5# would be a good place to start), and mattresses that are constructed well. Most pocketed spring units these days provide some sort of extra edge reinforcement, usually with a few rows of springs featuring different geometry along the edges that help to minimize product roll-off. These edge reinforcement systems are not meant to make the side of the mattress perform like a chair, but instead they help to maximize the overall useable sleep surface.

      Just because a mattress has a build date that quite a bit earlier than you purchase date doesn't necessarily mean that it is a used product. Some stores/chains carry a very large inventory, and if the same model has been produced for a few years, it's quite possible that they have had a particular item in stock for a while, especially if it wasn't a big seller. Other stores simply might not be good at rotating their inventory. So it could be one of those things. But an older build date by itself isn't evidence of a mattress being used. The first ting to do would be to politely bring your concern to the attention of the store manager and ask them for an explanation (which may be in line with exactly what I previously described). But short of any compelling evidence (such as stains, indications of wear or previous use, odors, etc.) or any of the other examples I mentioned in my video, it would be difficult to prove that the item was used.

And a second almost as important question is, is there anything like a universal remote for these adjustable bed bases? Or can one be rigged so it can sync up (is that the right terminology?) with my many years old base? The rest of this is optional reading back-story that you might find interesting as a mattress professional. The base was a free with the matress deal about 10 years ago. I should have known better -- but you are spot on about us loving the something free with purchase thing! Lol! Anyway, they swore the matress was compatible with an adjustable base. I even made them write it on the receipt because it didn't make sense to me that an inner spring matress would be okay to bend up regularly. 3 months later the matress had deep dips forming right where the bends the odjustable base made were. I called because the matress had a 10 year warranty & lo and behold, they said that having used this mattress on an adjustable base voided the warranty. I said, wait a minute here! You swore it was okay, even wrote it on the reciept (which somehow i misplaced, which i never do). Anyways, 10 years later, even though i sleep across the width of it -- hoping to work around the dips, this matress is causing me agonizing pain and now pressure sores, which with the genetic connective tissue disorder i have, in my case, start at the bone. The pain is unimaginable and indescribable. A family member has taken pity on me and ordered me a Tempurpedic matress (coming Tuesday thank God). My medical specialist says that an adjustable base is also important for bedsores, so I'd very much like to see if my adjustable bed base still works without having to spend the grocery money on a replacement remote (if its even still available) if at all possible? Your thoughts please? Thank you SOOO much in advance!
