Is The SUMMER COVER CROP Ready For Grazing Yet?!
20mm of rain has just about kept things going here in our part of Herefordshire. Our summer cover crop has responded very well. Here’s a quick update on how it’s looking now and what my plans are for it going forwards.

Creating a HEALTHY SOIL for PRODUCTIVE FARMING

Retaining moisture in the soil is becoming increasingly important nowadays as our climate shifts towards dryer and warmer summer conditions. This can be hugely influenced by the type of grazing system used on a farm. In this video I explain how!
Grazing Regeneratively During A DROUGHT!

The lack of rain or too much of it is probably feeling like a recurring theme in my videos now… But once again it is making grazing conditions challenging. Thanks to some long grass mob grazing currently as well as earlier on in the spring we’re still able to keep lots in front of the cows. Find out how that’s possible in this video!
Can The CLOVER UNDERSTORY, SUMMER COVER CROP & WINTER BIRD SEED Survive Without Any Rain!?

In a stark turn of events from the weather conditions about a month ago we now find our selves begging for some rain! The soil is drying out fast and newly emerging crops are struggling. Watch this video to find out my thoughts on the situation! ☀️

We made a start with some silaging with 30 acres dropped. In the video I quickly explain the process and show the steps we take to prevent any of the bales becoming mouldy!

In this video I explain how mob grazing is helping improve drought tolerance, increase diversity on our farm, keep our livestock happier and most importantly grow more grass!

Finally we’ve got a weather window to get this years summer cover crop drilled. The cover crop will be grazed by sheep and cattle all summer before the field is direct drilled with wheat in the autumn. In this video I explain the thought process behind establishing the crop and what’s in it. It’s also the first proper run out for our new John Deere 120M so I’ve done a quick review on that. Enjoy!
UNDER SOWING SPRING BEANS: Broadcasting Micro-Clover & Trefoil Using A Kuhn Aero & JCB Fastrack!
zhlédnutí 1,2KPřed rokem
Broadcasting a micro clover & trefoil mix into spring beans using a repurposed Kuhn aero boom fertiliser spreader & JCB Fastrack. The bi-crop of legumes will help increase soil health, fix nitrogen & hopefully suppress weeds. We will take the clover and trefoil forwards as a living mulch into the following wheat crop. An update on how some of our direct drilled cereals and beans are looking heading into spring. It hasn’t been an easy spring, with the wet weather causing a small amount of crop damage in areas. But on the whole it’s all looking very promising. Take a look at the video to find out more!

We’ve finally managed to get some sheep put into a proper mob meaning rotational grazing can begin! Also in this video a surprise lamb, and helium balloons!
MOB GRAZING: Growing More Grass Using Electric Fences!

Want to grow more grass? Mob grazing is the answer! See how our livestock are rotated frequently between small paddocks with the help of electric fences. In this video I’ll show how we’re making a mob grazing system work for us. Practical tips for implementing mob grazing on your farm, how to set up fencing and water systems, stocking density, rest periods & more!

God so much to learn. Really like what you are doing. For a smaller farm like ours what drill would you recommend for cereal sowing into covers and cover crop sowing into stubbles ? .. What's your soil like ? How many years of no ploughing ?

Have you ever tried placing electric fence in a " W " form rather then straight ? Every other post....or ever second post in and out in and out. This way every other post gives you slack to move the wire further down line. And you dont need to roll up the wires. Just move posts. The " W " can be extreme or gentle. I seldom roll up wires.

Hi Billy, you could roll the cover crop with one of those crop rollers before planting in order to flatten them and block any emerging seeds to avoid companion cropping. Just a thought. 😅

We have probably the worst drought in 20-30 years in north-east Poland. Hay crop is half about year ago. We still have some grass on pasture, not too much but we fight. Not much rain in forecast in june.
