I simply loved "Shallows" , Mr Carr and I'd like to thank you for it. I just realized that my life passes by while I spend too much time online. The Internet of things , smart city hype were already being hyped in 4G, We already have all those smart fridges, lift bulbs, The problems of them are they are pure craps and nobody in real life really needs them. Crap will still be crap even equipped with 5G

What they forgot to mention i that all these innovation in America were by immigrant engineers either from India, Taiwan or China. Some stayed and added a lot of value. For example, Andrew Yang (Democratic candidate) whose father with a PhD developed a lot of diodes for LCD screens mainly for IBM & GE. His father created 69 patents for these giants but got a regular salary, less than a manager or director despite the fact that these patents are worth billions of not millions. The biggest weapon US had was the H1B Visa. Now with Trump pushing these Chinese or international students away, they're going to go back and make China stronger with their talent. US was great because it could attract cream of the crop talent from all around the world. I think in today's environment, especially after the George Floyd incident, and Trump insistent push away move, the talents are leaving.

I think this guy is a little out of touch in his perceptions. However, he brings up a good point about technology's impact on society as a whole. I.E. he's using poor examples, but the underlying principle is somewhat grounded in reality. Honestly, it feels like he's regurgitating feynman's point about understanding how the world works vs rote memorization of the principles of physics from his essay o americano outra vez and applying it to the topic of technology. Nothing he's saying is really that new or ground breaking.
