Where was everybody when I was a one man Sweet fan club? I traveled so many miles in the U.S. to see them. The first time was in Buffalo N.Y. My pal ( at the time) was Dave Wyndorf. We had called twice to find out the round trip fare to Buffalo. We were just kids. We also had to travel an hour to get to NYC. We had like 23 rd row left center and were psyched for weeks. Ok, we get to Grand Central Station, huge fuckin’ place( ha- ha) we thought. So time to buy the train tix and the lady says double what we were told!! We called twice!! We look at each other. Of course we knew this meant certain death( from our parents) We freak out to no avail, the lady asked, well, do you want them, we said no, we’ll take TWO ONEWAY TIX. We had no idea where Buffalo was. We get going, we are super psyched to finally see the band we have been worshiping the past two years or so. So it gets to be around dinner time, we had breakfast, and lunch on the train. It starts snowing, then really snowing, the train starts slowly taking the turns now, 5:30, 6:30, we start getting a little nervous. HOW FAR IS THIS PLACE BUFFALO WE ASK ANYONE. Some man yells- 16 miles from Canada! WHAT??????? Oh my god. The train is just creeping along, finally pulls in to the station about 8:45. Show starts at 8:00. Eric Carmen is the opening act. We literally run about two miles. We made it. The Sweet were all that and more!!! We wait,to meet them because we meet this really cool guy who had a fan - zine. The Shakin’ Street Gazette. Dave and this dude talk for hours and I just put my head down to rest. Finally they come down to the bar. We hang with the boys until closing time( won’t be the last time) I give Brain my last two joints. Dave blew his top when I told him. Brain was so drunk he probably didn’t remember them in the morning. This day marked the biggest snow storm Buffalo had in thirty years. Yup. We beg the night clerk to please give us a room. He said ok, these people just checked out. It’s 3:00 am. The phone rings. It’s 6:00. Time to go boys per our bargain. We trudge through the snowtoMcDonalds then a huge train station with a kerosene heater. We r freezing. We call home. .. oh yeah, Dave was walking around and said Ronnie, come here a sec. A huge sliding door. Omg😮Another station!! Just as huge. Makes G.S.S. look tiny. That was some trip.SWEET RULE OK!

I think that when Brian got to in to this awful state with his health, he should have stopped performing, it's degrading to see him and the others reduced to playing Butlins. surely they didn't need the money? After reaching the top and begining to slide down the slope they ought to have decided a cut off point where they would stop performing. To see them in Butlins I had to switch off I was embarressed for them. Brian gathers much sympathy for never knowing his parents but then many others have ben through the same thing and never turned to alcohol, it is a disease.

Absolutely brilliant song by the Glitter Band. Had so many great hits. They were kind of underated due to the competition at the time. They had Sweet, Mud, Slade, Suzi Quatro, Wizzard, T. Rex to contend with along with others of course. The band had a sound of their own which brought them success. Great times, great music, great memories. Thanks Bill
