The overarching narrative of Russia is like any other European empire; birthing people and living everyday lives is underwhelming. The representation of the suffering of the Russian people under the monarchy and capitalism, with the majority of its indentured illiterate poor peasants and workers enslaved to the aristocracy, monarchy, and early industrial capitalists as wheels of history, misrepresents reality. The next thing I would have expected is the support of monarchy and indentured servitude at the least and a 12-hour work day without a weekend work schedule for the working. Presenting any attempt to modify the system as criminal and terrorism, which every revolution is based on such action, indicates who funded the "documentary." Misrepresenting reality suggests the intent to discredit Lenin and the Russian Socialist Revolution. The "documentary" title should have been named "Support the Existing Rule by the Elites as all Costs."

Part of the signed treaty was for Russia to be the aggressor towards their former compadre, Sweden. Russian propaganda to justify military expansion as always.

I learned about Napoleon reading British military history, but it was *War and Peace* by Leo Tolstoy that brought the Battle of Borodino to life.

I read about the Eastern Front battles from British military historians, I just watched the first 7 hours of this, episodes 1-9 starting with Barbarossa and ending with the Battle of Kursk. Very well done. They glossed over few of the unpleasantries of the early war, and frankly disclosed the Russian failures. I am impressed with this series.

The Soviets WERE poised along the border for invasion. Thats why 3 million Soviets were encircled so easily. They were in offensive positions. Stalin himself mentioned Zhukov’s invasion plans in a public speech in May 41. Yes, the Nazis had other reasons too, but that doesn’t change the facts.

Prior to the invasion of Ukraine, the Ukrainians had constructed defensive positions on the roads used by the Russians for their invasion routes. They were armed with Javelin missiles, recoilless rifles, RPGs out the wazoo, and were very effective in destroying the leading invasion vehicles and blocking the roads. At the last minute the defending troops would withdraw, and they fell back to defensive positions further down the same roads. Units would leapfrog, passing another defense point, warning the defenders there to get ready, as they rolled further down the road to reach their next defensive position. Ukraine lost vehicles at nearly every one of these defense points, they were deliberately sacrificed to slow the invasion down. The further into Ukraine the Russian forces advanced, the harder, and more frequent, these defense points became. Ukraine mobilized an army of flat bed trailers and cranes, and started collecting up damaged and non-running armored vehicles of all types. If it could be fixed and made to run it went to the rear for service. Non-repairable armor was stacked into static defensive positions with cranes, and packed inside and out with sandbags. These positions were armed with Javelins, recoilless rifles, Mk 47 Strikers, Ma Deuce, plus old Russian stuff like RPGs out the wazoo. Now they fly drone cover over these positions. Many times damaged armor still has functional guns, and these were set up and loaded, pointing down the road in the direction where the Russians would come. Eventually the Russians stopped coming like that, they were stopped, and pushed back from places like the outskirts of Kiev.
