Funny how back then we all ran the right side of the falls, but now we run the left side. Great seeing all those "silver creek paddles. Still have mine.

A Class V boater and physician told me back in the day that a dime will fit in any slot. Those long boats bridged over a lot of trouble, but by the same token they cross bridged into plenty of trouble. And they were tippy as hell.

Brilliant video! I classic steep creekin' in those long boats. Around 1991 I believe I traded my Dancer in for an AQII. It would be another 7 years or so before I finally moved from Louisiana to the Nantahala Gorge to work for NOC and kayak everyday. I stayed up there for 3 summers and 2 winters and fulfilled my dream do runs like this, Deep Creek, Little Rive in the park, Little River Canyon in Alabama and many more that escape me right now. I miss it every single day! From 1988 though 2002 Appalachia in general and Appalachian rivers changed my life all for the better. I am looking forward to attending the 50th anniversary of the NOC nest year for past and present employees! I cannot wait to see some old friends and do some paddling. Cheers!

Wayne, stumbled up on your video. Wow, very cool to see some old friends getting it done. I was paddle boarding on the Upper Hooch a couple weeks ago and came up on a person that looked familiar. "Do I know you"? "Stan Crane", he was there paddling with his daughter and her boyfriend. He was looking as smooth as ever. Water wasn't as challenging as in your video but it was more about a dad having a day with family. They let me tag along, good to catch up with him while paddling.

Nate, good paddlers are good paddlers. Years ago I had a friend, Ron Lugbill, who paddled a plastic boat (Mirage) in the '84 Slalom Nationals on the Ocoee. He was third after first runs and finished in the top ten. Didn't hurt that Ron was one of the best Slalom racers in the US, 5th in the Worlds.
