TREASURE HUNTER DISCOVERS WHAT THEY LEFT BEHIND
In this video, I return to the mountain in search of additional discoveries that will add more insight into what happened there many years ago. Avoiding the bear roaming the woods, I use the relics and coins I find (along with the others from recent hunts) to piece together the history and story of the land.
Come along on this adventure as I take a detour into the unknown in search of answers to the question "What happened to the Mountain People?".

TREASURE HUNTER DISCOVERS CENTURIES OLD RELICS & COINS ON A MOUNTAIN COVERED IN STONE RUINS
zhlédnutí 7KPřed 3 měsíci
After the snow from the last storm quickly melted away in the spring sun, and with another major snow event on the way, I had a short window to revisit such a special place in search of lost relics and artifacts. In this episode, walk along the centuries old stone ruins of years forgotten in the woods of New Hampshire as I search for what those who came before us lost along the way. Surprised b...

If you look closely you'll notice this is a postage stamp screen size clown.
Thanks for your input. 👍
A man I worked with years ago would metal detect along old fence lines and once found a Mason jar full of late 1800s coins.
That's awesome!
@@DetectEdOutdoorskeep the videos coming and good luck in your searches
@jk3dad will do. Just need to find time. Busy with my new business but I'll be out again soon.
Please when you find coins don't wipe the mud off ,instead put water on it then use a can a air to dry it,because...if you find a really valuable piece you don't want scratches to occur, could be a really valuable gem...❤😮😊
I hear ya and understand your point. I've been preserving coins a long time and definitely care for each differently depending on the possibility of rarity! Silver always gets a water bath 😁 You may like my preservation video with the thumbnail called "The Mermaid Copper". Hope you get to check it out! I appreciate you stopping by. Happy hunting!
So good to hear this, good luck on your adventures 😁
I hope you don't clean your coin with anything other than water and a fine toothbrush.
I have a whole video on how I clean and preserve coins. I've been doing it for years and got the technique down to a solid. Check out the video The Mermaid Coin.
Wow, when the first signal of the day is a Barber Quarter you know it’s gonna be an amazing day! What a crazy day with typical New Hampshire weather, loved all the scenery and drone footage. Everyone dug something amazing! My favorites are the shoe buckle and silver thimble! Great video Ed! Came to check I didn’t miss a new one and watched an older one.
New business and construction work has got me straight out. I'll get new adventures out soon.. just need to find time. Thanks for watching though! All my best to you guys. Keep finding the goods!
What state are you in.
NH, VT and MA
looks awful clean🤣😂
Sometimes they do. It was already ruined by time. Thanks for your opinion 🤘
That's one big field
Never hurts to have too much land lol
It would be interesting to bring a psychic to that area
Probably feel some crazy energy!
almost worthless large copper cent in that condition.
🤷
Not necessarily. Some of the first coppers can be identified even in the absence of a readable date, as the liberty figure may be facing in a different direction or there may be a liberty cap visible. Some of the rarest, like the 1793 chain cent can be identified by the circular chain instead of a wreath on the reverse, even in the absence of a readable date on the obverse, and even in the worst condition can fetch a nuce amount. Some British and French colonials can be identified in a similar way by their unique features. The classic head large cent, incidentally, minted from 1808 to 1814, is known for the poor quality copper obtained by the mint during those years and pitting is common with many lower grade examples due to impurities in the copper used, even if they haven't been buried. But collectors wince to hear someone say they're going to use a toothbrush on any coin. Plain water should always be used, and no rough rubbing, especially if a coin is suspected of being a fairly rare one, otherwise more damage may occur that may drastically lower a very rare coin's value, because sometimes the difference in value between one grade and the very next in some cases can be hundreds or even thousands of dollars. Let a professional remove any encrustation that can't be removed with a water spray if you suspect the coin might possibly be a rare one.
@@jamesbuccigross6920 "The classic head large cent, incidentally, minted from 1808 to 1814, is known for the poor quality copper obtained by the mint during those years . . ." Why does the quality of the copper seem to be so much poorer for the large cents of this era than for the Half Cents of this era? I see a lot of poorly minted 1808-1814 large cents, but not so in the Half Cents. For many, many 1808-1814 large cents formal grading is almost useless. You have to go by over all eye-appeal. Perhaps the better copper was saved for the lower mintage Half Cents.
@@jamesbuccigross6920 I was referring to common dates. Rare dates are rare dates, but there are not many of those to be dug up. I have fished out a few very slick pre-1808 half cent and large cents from dealers junk boxes. My guess is that dealer did not look at all at the copper slick he tossed into 'junk box'. OTOH, I knew one dealer who occasionally "salted" his junk box for kids.
Not all can be pretty 🤷
I'm a UXO tech and just curious, have you ever come across any military ordnance while metal detecting?
Nothing around here. No major battles were fought in my area of New England. However, we find a lot of lead, both bullets and musket balls from colonial times and earlier.
@DetectEdOutdoors I didn't expect to find Civil War era munitions in Wisconsin, but we did. Good luck on your hunts and stay safe.
@Chris_Haig guess you never really know! Same to you.
Even with the damage still a great find
Always a pleasure no matter what shape they are in! Thanks for taking time to watch. Much appreciated. I hope you enjoy my longer videos as well 🤘

Awesome
Thank you
Glad I found this video thank you
You're welcome. Makes me happy to know my videos help others.
That’s a nice button
😁
Thanks and nice find
You're welcome and happy hunting!
I find this to be true. Dug a wheat cent last week that was giving a one way tone and VDI of 62 on my manticore. Old home site with loads of iron trash. Made my day to know my abilities have improved and to apply this knowledge to this situation.
I love it! Thanks for sharing. Happy hunting!
What can you use to clean it?
Not much with this one. It's pretty cooked. However, if you watch my video called The Mermaid Copper, you'll see my process for old copper coins.
Awesome great finds
Thanks! 😁
I agree with your story. I have read a lot of history, Geo Washington was a cousin, and there was a lot of vicious things went on up there in mountains where the Brits thought they could do whatever they wished.
It's definitely all I could assume based on what I found and the stories I've heard. It's awesome to be able to possibly figure out the story from relics and coins that witnessed the true history there. I love this hobby!
Nice work guys!!
Thanks!
Great work guys, active house site can be challenging for sure
Indeed!
Me and some buddy’s were detecting north eastern Connecticut a few weeks back and stumbled on to 30 or 40 piles like that and many of them had trees growing for the center. We googled “ native burial grounds” and an almost exact picture came up……….. we left😳
Awesome Video Ed. Love the editing. I love hunting in the woods. Beautiful spot. Beautiful big tombac button! Cool oil can. Wonderful imagination from the clues you have found. I can’t wait to find something from the Rev War. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks, friend!! I hope you're well. I appreciate you. Perhaps we'll meet again soon! Until then, happy hunting!!
Great video thanks for sharing ! 🎉
Thanks for watching! I hope you enjoy the others as well. Best of luck on your next adventure! 🤘
Awesome can’t believe you found that sword, buckle awesome
I wasn't expecting anything like that there!
Scored a nice pocket watch today, Ed. Dunsmuir, CA. Old railroad town. Found in some fill dirt used as an embankment along the road above the tracks. Wish I could show ya. Love your metal detecting videos best.
Awesome! I'm on social media where you might be able to send me a message. You're welcome to email me too if you want.. detectedoutdoors@gmail.com 👍
Great video Ed, all hunts dont end with piles of treasure. You were able to get some early buttons out of there. I liked the editing with the British images along with your theory of what happened there. Great job and thanks for sharing! Happy Hunting from your friends Jim and Mason.
Thanks, fellas! Much appreciated.
Nice to see you back . Congrats on those finds
Thanks, Brian!
Your gonna be successful dont give on your carrer😊
Not sure which career you're speaking of but I thank you for your kind words 🙂
Just came across your channel. This is the first video I've watched. I'm in Alaska waiting for the ground to thaw. I'm hoping for some gold or any relics from the gold rush.
Awesome! I would love to visit Alaska one day. Panning for gold, salmon and halibut fishing would be incredible to do there. I hope you enjoy my content. Thanks for stopping by and I wish you all the best on your next adventure! Be safe.
I started out like you, until I found my first gold patch... Historic relics are still fun. But just wait until you find your first gold nuggets.
Twelve years and no nuggets.. but you just never know! Maybe one day I'll be surprised 😁
That’s awesome
😁
Sounds like you had really great weather for your hunt! Great digs and yes patience is definitely virtue in this hobby. Thanks so much for sharing Ed and happy hunting!
Thank you, Eve!! You as well.
Think I could join you guys on a hunt
Between my business schedule, life and everything in the mix, it's hard to plan hunts. I usually get out spur of the moment hence why I've been hunting solo often in recent videos. But, anything is possible. I'll think of you if I can ever plan something ahead of time!
@DetectEdOutdoors thanks Ed, I don't get to hunt with anyone, so that would be great. Tell jim I'll join him if he needs another person to tag along. Thanks again
Thanks for watching. linktr.ee/detectedoutdoors
Great video, I have a location in PA that has some great stone walls on it. Great Tombac button. Like the video. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
I always enjoy your videos, with a lot of relics or with a few relics. It’s the adventure I enjoy seeing.
Thank you. That really means a lot to hear this. I do what I can to show those that can't or would like to. I appreciate you and wish you all the best on your next adventure!
Good vid Ed , and good advice slow your roll , and recovery speed .👍🇺🇸
Thanks, Marc! 🤘
Awesome was the buckle from the the other video from the early 1700 or late 1700 cuz it could have been French and Indian war which a lot of people forget there’s a lot of stuff from that relics to find
Yes. This video tied all three together. Tried something new 🤷😁
It was verified as British. 🙂
