    The artistry, the choreography, the emotion! Even though it was so fast that it almost felt frantic, it did not. It was captivating, mesmorizing and absolutely stunning. These two were in a league of their own.

    They won bc this was the year of the secret computer picking which marks counted. Lobacheva and Averbukh outscored them here. As much as I like the Canadians why did it take them so many years to realize they lacked speed and difficulty compared to the the very top teams. At the time I liked this FD best but now 20 years later I can see that the Russians really were better

    They never played by the rules, which is why I think they ended up in 3rd and 4th place a lot. What I loved so much is how they skated for themselves and for the audience. It really wasn't about racking up the hardware.

      @MsRumex Před 2 lety

      @@lilchicklets and what exactly did they do to break unwritten rules? The moment they became 3d in the world they stopped getting better and it looked like they were waiting for the teams ahead of them to retire (and this waiting list was exactly "ice dancing rules"). At the same time, their main rivals (Anisina and Peizerat) did get better and very deservedly beat them in 1998. And then Bourne and Kraatz started complaining about "the waiting list")))

    • @lilchicklets
      @lilchicklets Před 2 lety

      @@MsRumex Ok. They didn't abide by what traditionally was accepted by judges in terms of performance, style, etc. IE. The theatrics and dramatics that many European teams adopted. The Duchesnays were the same way, Wilson and Bacall. They didn't skate traditional programs, that's what she means and I mean. I had a friend who competed say that the judges would tell teams what they wanted to see.
