Great question. The MaxTrax helps with traction on soft surfaces like sand, mud, or snow. They allow the van to climb out of a soft hole where otherwise it would just pin the tire and dig deeper. Since we were stuck on rocks and couldn't climb the rock ledge, the Maxtrax wouldn't have helped. But the winch gave the van the added pull to allow it to get up and over these obstacles. The winch was the proper tool in this situation. But maybe next time, it will be the MaxTrax or something else. Does that make sense?

I wouldn't say it's impossible. But that is a long way to pull something that big on a rough dirt road. I think you would have more fun just taking the truck and staying in lodges or camping along the way. This road trashed a set of BFG KO2 tires with big chunks missing. It could ruin a set of tires on your 5th wheel, too. Maybe needing multiple tires to get up and back with it being that big & heavy. Once you get to Deadhorse, there wouldn't be any RV hookups, so it wouldn't be worth it for the 5th wheel. Go light and fast, and you will have a better experience.

@@Famagogo I like the idea of staying in lodges - after watching a bunch of videos, I agree that leaving the fifth wheel behind is the way to go!

@@Famagogoif you need to your tires to spin, when you turn off the switches alone the system is still on as you saw your truck was just sitting there with the accelerator to the floor…. you should know that menu regardless and the system cycles back to regular after a restart

This all depends on your vehicle and the tires your running. In my Sprinter van I will air down 30 PSI for my standard. If In deep sand I might go much lower. This is only for slow speed driving as you can loose your tire from your rim if the pressure is too low or speed is too high. Be careful to not excede the limitations of your vehicle/tires/rims.

It was really busy that day. We had to wait for some cars to leave so we could park. It's a big beach, so it didn't seem too crowded, but there were people around.

That's a great question. Yes, it is no different than using the toilet. We don't use any chemicals in our toilet, so we can empty it in septic systems. In this video, the toilet was a pit toilet. Just a big hole in a very large tank. This is preferred. However, these cassette toilets are also designed to be emptied in regular flush toilets. In Europe, this is the standard. Its main advantage is communities that want to attract travelers don't have to spend thousands on a particular dump station like in the US. They can use any toilet. Most US manufacturers of small and medium-sized RVs are using this system now. It doesn't leave any mess if emptied correctly. It's effortless to do...

Hello, Thanks so much! Each border crossing in Central America is a little different but also very similar. First, you get through customs by having your passport stamped like any other traveler. Then, you must get a TIP (temporary import permit) for your vehicle. This requires showing your registration, passport, VIN, and sometimes a title. This is pretty simple if you have your paperwork in order. They will also want to inspect your VIN and ensure your VIN is accurate. Sometimes you have to pay a fee too. It's typically not much, but Mexico is $400, but you get it back on exit of the country. Some countries require liability insurance, and some don't. Once you’re in the country, you will have a certain number of days before you must leave or get your TIP extended. I think that’s about it. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hello, I have worn Smith glasses for the last 30 years. I love them. Yes, I have some with the Chroma Pop, too. They are luxury for my eyes. I don't go anywhere without them. I think you will love them, too.

This is a great idea and an excellent way to explore. BUT... Some countries in Central America (CA) won't allow one person to get a temporary import permit for two vehicles simultaneously. So if you have a traveling partner, make sure they are listed on one of the vehicle's titles and registrations so one person can import the vehicle and the moto. I've heard of solo travelers getting shut down trying to cross a border with two vehicles. I can't remember which countries are the sticking points, so you might want to dig deeper into this.
