Why does he find it necessary to muck around with the tempo and argue with the composer? Why can't he sing it as it was written and intended?
I remember this episode had a lot of terrible acts, mostly through the first half hour. But they saved the best act for that episode for last. If they had golden buzzers at the time, I think he would’ve gotten one.

Unfortunately, the standard of performance for this song is the late great Jerome Hines. For me, once I heard him sing this, no one else has the power let Mr. Hines possessed. Yes, many could sing lower notes but did not have the presence, emotion and power that he possessed.
