Anyone coming in to your house and uses one of these ….don’t not let any of them carry out any work on your house!!!! Moisture meters are a fraud and simply picks it off on salts in brickwork and does not measure moisture!

Please take no notice of this. If you are studying to becoming a surveyor tread with care as depending on these moisture readers could end up with you being sued . I give this advice having been a building surveyor for over 40years .

Not what happens - Very interesting but in the real world surveyors in the corporate sector must complete the equivalent of two home buyers reports daily and cannot therefore adopt the slow methodical approach you demonstrate - how long do you inspections take in total? On a practical level you should have mentioned that high meter readings are always obtained from masonry chimney stacks - because they are full of salts - and perhaps also damp in cases where external detailing/maintenance is unsatisfactory. Very idealistic. Would have been very interesting to see how you reported your findings!!!

Below is a quotation from the manufacturer of the moisture meter used in this video - basically this instrument does not confirm the presence of damp - it can however confirm the absence of damp. "Contrary to popular belief, a moisture meter is not a diagnosis tool. Rather, it helps an inspector make an informed call about moisture’s presence within a space or material. If your meter is giving you a high reading, that merits further investigation -- dampness may not be the reason for the measurement; metals and salts cause false-positive readings".

Alright mate, could you explain to me why the hell you only ever give properties to people with loads of unruly kids? Our area is now a no go zone, it's such a horrific place to live and the parents have no clue. It was so nice now it's so depressing.

how do you deal with the health hazard of mice, molds and asbestos? assume you have no information of the loft/roof conditions before hand.

It doesn't measure moisture, it measures electrical conductivity, these things have been proven to be a scam, and a way of getting people to spend thousands on curing damp problems that don't exist, even on a bone dry stone wall these things will give a positive reading, don't believe me, search for Peter Ward on CZcams and he will show you how a proper damp surveyor tests for damp, and what causes it.

A surveyor just came round to my property and went in my sons room and he used a damp meter I heard it beeping like mad

My surveyor did not check the roof loft stating that he doesn’t feel it’s safe and they apparently did not no come with ladder. Now he wants me to hire a ladder and pay the surveyor to return. What do you advise??

Do capacitive damp meters give a false positive on salts too, or do they only affect conductive meters?

Hi Great video, my property has had a major fire 6 months ago and since we had lots of heavy rain when a new roof has been fitted and sealed to stop water, a specialist company will be coming in to dry out my rooms. What reading do i need to see on a meter to know it’s moisture free and back to how it should be Thanks

Hi John, great topic. I am pretty much in the same position as you’ve been at the beginning, family, a new born baby and still working full time. I have always been tempted to study to become a valuation surveyor however setting aside the financial commitment and the time consuming it is the mentor aspect that I am reluctant about. How can I find mentor once I have started the study?would it be ok to phone some of the surveying companies in my area and offer myself to be mentored a couple of days a week for free?

I have damp wet patch in a location where drilling to fix it is going to be a problem/ impossible, any ideas treatments. My neighbour is have treatment there side if that helps

Damp is definitely a real thing, even if some call it condensation. if condensation is on or in the lower part of your walls and you've touched and smelt it, it smells and feels... you guessed it!
