Thousands of separate genetic differences? I thought the total number of DNA differences is about 125 million, but since the insertions can be more than one nucleotide long, there are still about 40 million separate mutation events between chimps and humans.

I read when Eleanor visited the troops in the Pacific in WW2, it was something the soldiers hadn't seen in a long time - a mother figure. It meant so much to them - touring musicians, actors, and actresses could not come close to replicate. Eleanor recognized that many of the soldiers would not return home and toured troops, hospitals, and cemeteries sun up to sun down. Reading about this brought me to tears, knowing my father also served in the Pacific. Just a small sliver of the most remarkable American of the 1900's or possibly ever.

Sin is not the motive force that has given us the wonders of the modern world any more than a clever central planner or his cruel taskmasters would. It is the uniquely human capacity to balance our self-interest with the interests of others in our economic network dividing our labors, and exchanging the resulting surpluses of value fairly and fluidly in a free market which drives life to increasing abundance. Mr. Gilder is wise to say this and generous to not name the authors of this scurrilous smear.

Patrick seems to be setting up a straw man of the left, or at least treating all the left as the more extreme of the left. He says the left wants to destroy the family and religion. He says the old left used to be focused on the rapaciousness of corporations. Liberals in general, and the Democratic Party, haven't been focused on destroying any of this. Look at their most recent presidents. Biden displays his Catholicism on his sleeve, doesn't talk about freeing people from their families, and while he may want more regulation and to return to previous corporate tax rates...certainly isn't a great enemy of corporations. I don't know if Obama really believed in his Christianity, but he certainly portrayed himself as a good Christian family man and even spoke like a preacher and relied on religious themes as president. Clinton was a triangulator rather than a man of the far left. Patrick is acting like the key thrust of liberals is attacking religion and the family. That's nonsense. There are tensions along the edges, but it's not a main thrust of their actual policy or leadership.
