    Hi Yako and thanks for your informative and entertaining videos! A thought occurred to me re. charging battery in cafés, construction sites etc en-route: surely you'd need an extension cable as it's unlikely you'd be able to park your bike within 1.5 m from the nearest power outlet? And a decent 3 or 4 m cable is heavy and bulky....

    • @yakoridesagain
      @yakoridesagain Před dnem

      My pleasure Will! (?) The charger only pulls a very low amperage, so to make your own, pretty skinny/light cable would be fine…1.5mm2 would weigh very little (and 1mm2 could be enough). The outlet to charger cable bit of the charger is also very standard - you could probably buy a 3-4 m version for a low weight penalty and no wiring to do. I’ve not needed to carry an extension (I was intrigued so I just measured my charger at 2.64m) - in cafes there are often outlets near the door, or even outside for vending machines (this is normal at petrol stations). You may need to avoid the busiest times so that the staff have more time to indulge you in popping the bike somewhere to plug in, but generally, I’ve found that people are very generous and like to help.

  • @martintramuntbikemallorcak481

    I just went ahead and bought the JubaTec battery to use as the extender... I decided I liked the sounds of them.... got speaking with one of their team.. so all good............. Next job... is it possible to make an extender for my eMTB you think?? It has a whopping 48v 17.5Ah battery on it.... any ideas?

    • @yakoridesagain
      @yakoridesagain Před dnem

      The Juba Tec looks decent, so I’m sure you’ll be fine. Re your eMTB - how far do you want to ride lol! You live on an island! seriously though, there is a company called Volabike that make extenders that work like my DIY one, and they make extenders for just about all systems…so you could try it…I wouldn’t, not without lots and lots of research…or cheap spares in case something gets fried…

    • @martintramuntbikemallorcak481

      @@yakoridesagain yeah.... your right...I would like to do the Tramuntana Mountains full route..I've done it plenty on road bike obviously.. but there is a MTB way too... 1 battery wouldn't be enough... and I guess even an extender wouldn't be enough!! It's a big ride....maybe I'll just do it on an ordinary MTB. The eMTB/MTB trails here are extremely difficult... so it doesn't take alot to use up the battery.... but in the whole, it's good enough. I'm now dreaming of getting the newly announced Ribble all road electric bike with the Mahle X20 motor. The entry level one with 12 speed 105 is a bargain at £3999. But for some reason, I must've got distracted.. or mind was on other things!!! haha... old age!! So, THANK YOU!! Today is my 60th birthday... my beautiful German lass has been going through breast and lymphatic cancer the last 2 years and has been unable to ride this ribble I got for her in 2020...we both longed for the day we could ride together again...and she announced 2 weeks ago that she thinks she's ready to ride again.. and said we would do it together on my birthday (today!!) (hence I was up till midnight trying to work this out!!) - as a surprise, I had changed her bike to a flat bar 1 x system.... and put on the 700x40c gravel/road tires....etc etc... and obviously was doing this battery extender..... I didn't have the saddle bag on... so I came back... put the saddle bag back on and connected the existing power lead.... and still all lights operate.. but no assist.... any ideas? or does it require this hoverboard battery to operate now?? i'm confused... as I thought if I removed the saddle bag and the old cable... then can ride it until the hoverboard battery arrives... but no....I can't have fried the internal battery.. as all lights come on the iWoc....watya thinks?

    • @yakoridesagain
      @yakoridesagain Před 8 dny

      You can’t have damaged anything without even having the battery connected! You can switch the system on, and toggle through the power levels, but no power to the motor? If this is so, it is 90% likely the PAS sensor. First thing to do is check that the magnets in the cassette lock ring are clean. Next, clean the face of the sensor - it’s a little black plastic tab facing the cassette in the frame (rear chain stay). If you still have no power, check the gap between the sensor and the magnets - it’s supposed to be 3mm. If yours is more, loosen the sensor by undoing a 2mm grub screw under the sensor, push the sensor closer, and retighten. This should sort it. Takes 2 minutes.

    Looking for reviews on the Orbea Rise , YT suggested yours. While having watched a number of reviews by others with quite a bit more mtbing experience that do get deep into the tech bits of the bike and the whys of it all is something I look for when considering a bike purchase. I found your take on the bike refreshing and also just as informative. It's been a long time since I threw my leg over my first mtnbike so it was fun to hear your take on the Rise as a newb mtnbiker. It's an addictive sport especially when you finally get off the two track and onto that ribbon of single track dirt. Hell, I even ended up employed as a trail builder. At 75 I'm considering the purchase but I'm not there just yet. At my age riding a mtnbike your consideration of the trail difficulty gets more nuanced. With something like the Rise all trails are back on the table for consideration. I just have to wait until they make it legal to ride those trails on state land. Mean while I will just ride my other three mtnbikes. Yeah. That comes with the addictive nature of the sport. Try some single track when you feel comfortable. Buy that Rise. Thanks.

    • @yakoridesagain
      @yakoridesagain Před 11 dny

      Thanks for that Greg! I had the most fantastic time with the Rise, it was an utter eye-opener to what I had been missing. I got to keep the bike for 5 weeks and definitely improved (see my other vids with the Rise, I did quite a few) and got onto singletrack, which basically is scary but around here has a better, more grippy surface. I will never be able to afford one, but my very experienced MTB mate pulled the trigger and it has relegated his other MTB’s E-MTB’s to the furthest recesses of the shed. Happy you enjoyed this! Cheers!

      Def for most, just not for me for braking…I am happier with the greater ‘feel’ I get when braking on the hoods, and with hydraulics you don’t need to be using the ends of the levers to get the maximum braking. From vids I’ve seen I’m as low on the bike with either hand position too…give it a try! M30 - lucky you!

    hi again bud..... I've done all the things required and am just waiting on the hover board battery arriving from Aliexpress......but everything is working so far!! A question though... I've just noticed I have ordered this battery - Hover Board Battery 36v 10s2p 4400mAh Lithium Battery Pack - and now see that u mention it should be a 7Ah??? will this mean I don't get as far?? maybe I can send it back and get another one..... what you think?

    • @martintramuntbikemallorcak481
      @martintramuntbikemallorcak481 Před 12 dny

      also..... just checking here... but I have now got everything done and just awaiting delivery of "suitable" hover board battery.... (I will re-order a 7Ah as soon as you answer my question above) - but I notice, I have the diode all connected up and did the XT60 connectors onto the chargers etc.. so, when I connect the existing charger everything lights up...and the iWoc light comes on... and when it's full and solid white light, when i unplug the charger XT60 within the saddle bag... the white light stays on.... and I then need to hold the button in to switch off.....Is this normal?? or have I done something wrong?

    • @yakoridesagain
      @yakoridesagain Před 12 dny

      That 4.4Ah battery will be fine, but you are right, 7Ah will take you further. People also say it is generally a better idea if the capacities of the two batteries are the same, but this is mostly if you are charging the two batteries together, which I don’t advise.

    • @yakoridesagain
      @yakoridesagain Před 12 dny

      perfectly normal! When you connect up via the charging socket you are switching the system on, so you have to switch it off via the iwoc. One other thing to remember, if you stop for any length of time, the internal system switches off. Obvious when you don’t have the extender fitted, as the Iwoc light goes off, and when you get back on, you think ‘oh, I need to switch the system back on!’. But because your extender is connected, the Iwoc stays lit. You then get back on your bike and ride off, but you have no assist, and you won’t be able to change the assist levels. This is because your system IS actually off. All you need to do it unplug the extender from the charge port, wait a second, and plug it back in. the system will come on as normal. It took me ages to discover what was going on! Sounds a bit complicated, but isn’t. Unplug/replug after any long stops.

    Is the new SEG BHZ motor the same as was on the 2022 Core Gravelx Carbon?

    • @yakoridesagain
      @yakoridesagain Před 14 dny

      Hi Kevin - weirdly, today, I asked the same question of BH…it looks as though this is a quieter motor with bigger range that the BH exMag2 of the Core…which was already the market leader in e-road bikes. I love how a comparatively small Spanish company have stolen a march on their big rivals! Fingers crossed I will get a ride on the new motor to give a review…it looks REALLY exciting!

    • @yakoridesagain
      @yakoridesagain Před 13 dny

      @@kevinkirby3158 Apologies, Kevin I mis-read your original post. The ‘22 Core would definitely have the exMag2, as the BHZ by Seg is brand new. As with all mid-motors, the noise of the exMag2 is noticeable, but quieter than the two Shimano mid-motors that I’ve ridden. If you take a look at the first ride vid I did of the iAerolight, and the hub vs mid motor vid, I discuss the motor noise. I actually like it - it’s a comforting whirr, rather than a normal electric motor noise. I REALLY liked the iAerolight, if there was any doubt! Ask away if you have any other questions.

    Great video. Thanks for the comparison. I have a question off topic if you don’t mind. I’ve got a 2019 orbea gain d10, original chain has worn, so bought a German connex brand I think it was and it’s been great. Decided to try the wax route and bought a couple of 11 speed e bike specific chains and they are extremely noisy. So bad I’ve put the half worn connex back on For the life of me I can’t find the specs for my bike so I can buy the same as the original chain. What chain do you recommend as I’ve got the same year bike as you? Thanks mate from Australia.

    • @yakoridesagain
      @yakoridesagain Před 14 dny

      Any normal road bike 11 speed chain will be fine John. I use KMC - same quality/life as Shimano for less cash. E-bike specific chairs are for mid-motors, where both the motor and rider put force through the chain. With our hub motors, it’s just us, so we don’t need those chains, which usually have thicker links, which is why they’re noisy.

    • @johnclugston614
