My Cozy Cappuccino Routine on the Ascaso Steel DUO [NO MUSIC]

This is how I make a proper-ish cappuccino! A double shot of espresso and about 4oz (120mL) of milk, steamed with a little extra aeration for a thicker layer of microfoam in the final cup. Almond Flour Cake (Gluten Free, No Butter/Oil)

My dad challenged me to make his birthday cake using only almond flour. So this cake was kind of a happy accident, and I am excited to share it with you all! It's coarser in texture than I prefer for a cake (will probably refine here and there with a little bit of all-purpose flour), but I was so happy that I could make a cake with such few ingredients and without any AP flour. *Note: The chantilly cream should have been whipped more to get the classic rich, dense chantilly/whipped cream. On my trip to Paris, I enjoyed the popular, decadent drink that is Parisian Hot Chocolate (namely from Carette) and have been eager to share my recipe with you! It...

Methodical, clear, detailed, pleasure to watch, and above all helpful. Well done! Thank you.
Thank you so very much for this tip! This is why I keep coming back to your channel! You provide so much value!đŻ Cheers! â
I never thought of this. Iâm gonna try this. Thank you
What glasses are you using? Do you have a link for them?
Libbey can glasses! amzn.to/4aIeonL
hi what machine is this? name?
Ascaso Steel DUO! Check my website for links and discounts to all my coffee tools and machines: hijabsandaprons.com/coffee
I just ordered the bottomless portafilter piece that you recommended on your website from Espresso parts. I was wondering, but how did you unscrew the porta filter handle from the spouted head that comes with the Ascaso machine ? I am struggling to remove the handle as it is very tight :( any tips ?
Oh no!! I've heard some of the Ascaso handles come off smoothly but others might be glued where the screw/threading it. If it isn't coming off with just some initial force, then don't force it. You have to buy a separate handle (either Ascaso's or any handle you find and like with an M10 screw). If you'd like to get the former, I will reach out to EP and request that my discount apply to the handle as well. In the meantime, if indeed your portafilter is the glued kind for which the handle can't be removed, reach out to EP to let them know your situation and perhaps they can help!
Can't wait to try this!
Hope you enjoy it!!
Would this work with some cold brew? I have some leftover and you mention there being microfoam/ similar to cold foam laying on top
Adding a hint of steamed milk to cold brew? Yes you could do that! Personally, I prefer some heavy cream cold foam for cold brew, but yes you can spoon off the thicker foam from steamed milk if you prefer using milk đ
Here I am over caffeinated trying out all my espresso shot trying to get the perfect dial. Great vid. Loved every second of it.
HAHA overcaffeination is a must when dialing in đ thank you for the support! âïž
You can make very silky frothy milk with a French Press. I actually use that with cold milk when I make my wife lattes every morning. Heat will break down sugar faster so yes you will have a sweeter milk but French Press works well also. It adds a silky texture to the drink.
Can you link your dosing cup and bottomless portafilter? I just got this same machine. Great video. Thanks so much.
It should all be linked on my website! hijabsandaprons.com/coffee
Im gunna try this!
Hope you love it!
Looks yummy
Nice review !
Very helpful thank you
This video is sooo soothing. What book is that? â€
Just bought my barista pro. Upgraded from a delonghi EC-702, your video really solidified that I made the right decision going with the barista pro. Great video!
Thank you!
Still a useful video! Thank you!
Thanks for the content. I just got a Steel Duo. And upon set up, I find that the it doesn't put out any steam. When I turn the steam switch on, I hear it activate. But when I twist the knob to start steaming, nothing comes out. I've reached out to the seller about it. But since you have this model, I wanted to ask if you've ever heard of this issue?
Oh no, I'm sorry to hear that! I haven't had that problem myself, and off the top of my head I don't recall a specific solution but I might have read of someone else having this issue. Good thing you reached out to the seller; I would search on Reddit to see if anyone had this issue and was able to solve it at home
The pump is vibrating so much causing the cups to rattle, and worst when cups are close and touching each other. I suggest to add a silicon mat in the cup warmer to store your cups. Then just run a blank shot to warm up your cup.
It rattles/makes sound even without the cups on top. So at this point I don't really care either way because it's an annoying/disruptive sound no matter what haha including the drip tray rattling a bit too. Definitely a weird flaw on part of the manufacturer! I'll consider placing a mat there. I don't like the idea of silicone/plastic getting heated atop my machine but it might be worth it
Cool đwhat are you studying
In this vlog, religion! đ
I've been watching a ton of espresso videos from baristas and the usual experts....but your video really made it simple/practical to understand
đ€€
Hi! Iâm wondering, you talk normally for a ratio of 1:2, you have a 19g coffee for 30g extraction, is there a reason you did not set it to 38g? Thank you!!!
Yes! The beans I was using were recommended as a shorter shot, so that's why I was using a slightly smaller output. Don't be afraid to experiment once you're dialed in to 1:2 and want to adjust the shot for taste
Lots of reasons to get one. Amazing! Do you still pulling 1:3 ratio expressos? I have a barista touch and I can't have it pull 1:2 shots.
I tend to pull 1:2 and sometimes 1:1.5 like a ristretto đ I almost never pull 1:3, but sometimes I pull faster shots (closer to 25 seconds but still 1:2 ratio)
Oh you might have to pull a manual shot to bail your preferred ratio!
@@HijabsandAprons thats what Iâm trying to do. But if I make it more fine so that the 25 seconds stops right at the 1:2 ratio, it doesnât flow correctly. It flows very slowly like a under extraction :/. And if I make it more coarse, it flows correctly but it goes to 45 grams instead of 36.
@@HijabsandAprons got it! I will try. Iâm liking this coffee âchemistryâ thing now. Thanks again!
@arlokkkk You've got to pull a manual shot so that you can manually stop it when you want to! Or adjust your dose slightly (keep the coarse setting and dose 0.3-0.6g more and let it run for the same time)
Thanks for this amazing video. Why do I need to get a bottomless portafilter?
Thank you for watching!! You don't *need* to but here's my video on the reasons you might want to get one: czcams.com/video/EeEzbmT1fmc/video.html
@@HijabsandAprons You're the best, thank you!
Hi, loved this video! I was wondering what model/brand the cabinet in this video is, it fits your coffee decor really well! If you could give a link to it, that would be amazing!
Thank you so much! I got it online from Target (goto.target.com/6ejarr) and changed the handles to black (amzn.to/3wEMpHI double check the size before buying/installing) I wouldn't recommend it for anything heavier than the setup I currently have (~55lbs in total espresso machine and grinder) because the structure is MDF board rather than chip wood or solid wood. It'd be great for the Breville Barista machines and/or a lighter grinder!
Where did you get the mat where you keep your WDT and tamper?
Normcore! amzn.to/3K2wNRs
Looks the same as a cappuccino. WhatÂŽs the difference?
Love your precise explanations. Thank you đđŒ
Thanks so much! I'm glad you found it helpful đ
Been looking at this machine for MONTHS and I really appreciate the review. One question though, how's the performance for pulling back to back shots? Does the brew temp drop? Is the steam strong enough to handle multiple steams? I plan on having this as my first machine and I want something that can last me a good while. Much thanks!
As salamu alaikum. Just stopped by to tell you how much I like your calm videos and that I aspire one day to be able to create something similar myself. I have a cooking channel on yt but not nearly as professional as yours mashAllah. That being said, could you enlighten me on how you record different angles while you make coffee? :)) thank you
Please go back to the old style videos. Talk to us, tell us what youâre doing and why youâre doing it. Tell us about the coffee, the machine and taste. ASMR is tedious and has to stop. Itâs vacant and vacuous. I donât mean this to be personal, Sprometheous is the same. Itâs not even style over substance, there is no substance.
Just trying something new!! As someone who tries not to show myself or my face on camera, I thought I would show my full espresso bar and just let the process shine. I do plan on doing an updated routine video in which I explain what I'm doing and why (especially for my specific combo of products and machines)! I have this thing where if I've already shared something once (like my espresso routine, on my previous machine), I'm hesitant to share or mention it again because I assume that my audience will find it redundant. But I'm starting to realize that just isn't true for most of my audience đ Thank you for watching anyway and for sharing your feedback! I appreciate the honesty đđŒ
@@HijabsandAprons your old videos were all excellent, but you have entirely different machinery, along with new skills, knowledge and techniques. Iâm sure you would have no problem at all doing vocal piece videos and the viewers would respond positively to it. I always loved your warm, homely style of video. You had something of your own niche as a lot of espresso content creators take such a scientific, super analytical take on the hobby.
Really like you station, is so clean! Greetings from Guatemala, hope you enjoy the coffee from there, it's delicious!
Thank you so much! I feel like it's cluttered, so I have to make sure I wipe it down every time đ Yes, I do love Guatemalan coffee! Thank you so much for watching đ
Love your content! Thanks for this video :)
Thank you for the support!! đ€
Beautiful đ€is the better then the Breville?
Thank you! In nearly all ways, yes. Highly recommend that you check out my review video of the Ascaso machine if you're curious! đ
Thank you for making this video. Just a quick question, because I am not sure I am doing the right thing. I always wash my portafilter with dish soap after use, but I see a lot of people just rinse it out under the hot water from their espresso machine, as you just did. Should I not be using dish soap to clean it. Does that affect the taste?
Ooo great question! I'm not sure if it affects the taste because I haven't done that enough to be able to test it; I imagine any soap and water you're washing with that could leave a residue is what we want to avoid. I do the hot water rinse every single time I pull a shot, and then about once a month I soak the basket and my metal tools in some hot filtered water with Cafiza powder in it. Honestly not much gunk comes out when I do this and I think that's because I'm so good about cleaning everything daily. My shower screen is more of a concern for me than the basket đ Long story short, I think it's okay to use dish soap but I think using hot water every time you pull a shot should keep it clean enough to where you don't even need to soap it regularly. Hope that helps!
@@HijabsandAprons thank you so much for your quick reply! Iâm going to try cleaning it the way you are doing it. I feel the same way about the shower head too, lol. Thank you again. As always, I love your channel!â€ïž
Beautiful bar and latte art đŻ! Thank you for uploading without music. I needed to hear the machine with it's vibratory pump. However I may decide to look into the Ascaso Baby T with it's rotary pump. I presume it's a more quieter machine. Thanks again and cheers â
thank you! yesss i have no problem being transparent about it đ and yes you're right the baby T is quieter! you can also check my steel duo review video for more on that
@@HijabsandAprons will definitely take a look into that. And thank you for your transparency. We the coffee community greatly appreciate it! â€ïž
Mmmm delicious, but, could your cups rattle any louder?đ
hahaha it isn't actually the cups, it's the vibratory pump. most creators put music to cover it up, i'm trying to be transparent about it to help others decide if they want to get this machine or not

Its easy milk must be very cold
Firstly. Thank you for giving us such enjoyable and informative videoâs, youâre quite entertaining too. I just wanted to talk about the migration from a 54mm non-pressurised filter basket to a 58mm non-pressurised filter basket. The 54mm baskets, due to their depths, can be quite forgiving, for somebody whoâs a novice to the espresso world, who wishes to hone their skills, or not. The learning curve, though a little intimidating and daunting, is manageable for most, with results in the cup ranging from awful to particularly good, depending on skill and experience. Whereas, with a 58mm basket, it is possible to achieve those great to excellent/fantastic shots, though the slightest error in puck prep can still lead to awful/mediocre shots. Just over a year ago I upgraded from a Sage/Breville Bambino Plus to a Rancillio Silvia Pro X, though I have kept my original manual grinder, a 1Zpresso J-Max. I certainly would not have been able to make the leap without honing my barista/puck-prep skills on the 54mm Breville/Sage Bambino Plus. I made the decision towards a Rancillio, as I was a little fed up with the serviceability and expected service life of the Sage/Breville machines, although the Breville/Sage Dual Boiler was always at the back of my mind. With all that being said, I sorely miss the 3sec warm up brew and stream time! 20mins to fully warm the group head and portafilter can seem like an eternity when you have a sore head after the night before⊠The Ascaso was a consideration with the thermoblock heating system. Thank you for sharing your experiences on your barista journey with us all.đ
