    Thanks for the video/advice. I am an Astrophotographer. I have had some recent interest in purchasing my prints from my local community. My thought is to sell prints of a particular image in series. Perhaps 1/100 or maybe 1/50, not sure. This of course would divide my cost and effort across several sells. Maybe I am naive but it doesn’t seem right to get each customer to pay as if they were the only buyer. I used to have a Smugmug account that gave me a discount on printing cost (Bay Photo Lab) plus complete control on my pricing and marketing. Another feature is the option to have the prints directly delivered to the customer. My thought is to come up with a price for my ‘art’ and use that as the mark-up. The customer could then get whatever size/type print they wanted. My prophet would come from the art mark-up plus typical retail value of the size/type print the customer ordered. It may be something like: 16 x 24 Metal print (my cost $50) standard retail $85 plus say $75 art cost = $110 profit X quantity of the image sold in its series. (Art mark-up would increase depending on success. You know ‘cause once your famous you can charge whatever you want and people will pay it. ) Any thoughts? I am just brain storming at this point.

    Hi,thanks for the interesting video! I own one Sony A5100 and I'm very happy with it. I was thinking of buying a Sony A6700 but I've read that the sensor performance of the A6700 shooting in raw, is quite similar to the Sony A5100. You gain with the A6700 between 1/3 and 2/3 of a stop in dynamic range,Iso performance and colour depth. In video the A6700 is clearly a better camera, but in photography as far as image quality is concerned the differences are minimal. I really like the photographs you took. ¿ Did you take them mounting the camera on a tripod or handheld?

    I often feel that many people in videos make the mistake of confusing macro photography with product photography. In product photography, you're typically dealing with objects that don't move. You have all the time in the world to focus, you can rotate the objects to your liking, and you can use multiple continuous lights. However, in macro photography, which most people are interested in when they search for a macro lens and a suitable camera, the situation is quite different. Here, you're often dealing with fast-moving and constantly active insects and invertebrates-like tiny ants just 3mm in size. In this context, the goal is to capture the best possible image in a matter of seconds. For that, you need lenses with exceptional glass, a camera that can focus quickly and quietly, and a diffuser that is perfectly matched to both the lens and the camera body.

    Interesting video Steve. I suppose your choice of lens depends on your “starting point”! My first DSLR camera was a 550D (which I still own). It came with a low budget short zoom (up to 55mm) but didn’t get any use at all as I soon purchased a Tamron 18 - 270 zoom….what a brilliant lens that is (still own that too!). I own a few low cost lenses, including the “nifty 50”😂. I then moved on to a Ricoh GRii for some “Street Photography”…a lovely little discreet camera. I later picked up a retro 40D for 50 quid. More recently I had been watching a few Fuji related videos and was drawn to an X-T1 in outstanding condition at a reasonable price…but then came the quest for some of their lenses!! To start with I went for a 55mm 7Artisan and a 23mm TTartisan. I then added a 12mm Samyang. The big “gap” for me was that I did not own a single weather sealed (or resistant!) lens of any brand! Not good for users shooting in our lovely British weather!! In the last couple of months I picked up a 35mm f2 WR and today, took delivery of a Fuji 16mm 1.4 WR (with square hood☺️). I’ve really got to stop now as my wife has no idea how much my hobby is costing, but only when I get my hands on a Fuji zoom. Since I’ve already got my primes, my choice will likely be an XF 16 - 80 f4 WR, as I anticipate using this for Street Photography in poor weather conditions when I can’t use the Tamron.….not quite as long in reach as the Fuji 135 but great reviews. Have you done a review on that lens Steve?

    I've had a couple of XT-5's for events and concert photography, but decided although a great camera it's become more of a pain for me. When you're taking circa 800 + plus images per shoot the file size has become a pain, not to mention that buffer it's awful. The eye autofocus is still pretty rubbish, skipping from one person to another, pretty unusable. I also knew of the lack of grip but that also has become a bug bear as the ergonomics are not great. It's a great camera depending on what you're shooting and using it for, unfortunately it's not the tool for me.

    Hi Steve Happy New Year I've got the X-S10 and was wondering if it was worth upgrading to the X-T5. I shoot mostly bird and wildlife with some landscape thrown in?

    • @SteveMellorPhotography
      @SteveMellorPhotography Před 7 měsíci

      I would still say, what is it you're upgrading for? If you need more resolution for cropping (I know that's important to many wildlife photographers) then the X-T5 will certainly give you that. I don't want to put people off from upgrading, but I would like to urge people to consider why the upgrade is necessary. If you're happy with the camera and workflow, the XT-5 might not give you quite the upgrade you want. Having said that, it is a fantastic camera.
