I really want to read Moon of the Crusted Snow now, I had never heard of it but whenever I hear the word dystopian or apocalyptic I pay attention! I came over from Scott’s video today and have subscribed. Hope to try some of these books soon. Also, Demon was my favourite favourite of the year! 😊📚

I love these Harlequinn Amish romances. I'm reading Her Amish Adversary by Vendetta Chapman and I'm loving it! It had me laughing, crying and get upset with some characters. Thanks for sharing!

I missed your videos and had been wondering if you were ok! I am the same way with Audible! lol I will hoard that credit and if I spend it, I will listen even if I don’t like the book lol. I read Pride and Prejudice in college and enjoyed it, but the language was the same as you described - I may not have finished it if it hadn’t been assigned. I have never read or watched Sense and Sensibility so I may have to check it out, maybe start with the movie. Lastly - the Dirk Gently books that I just got are written by Douglas Adams who wrote The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy - so now yet another book I need to read!

Finally, someone who feels the same as me about Swanson’s, “The Kind Worth Killing.” 👏🏼 It felt very hetero male gaze & rather misogynistic. I DNF’d it because of those scenes; yuck, I did not want to take on the male gaze perspective. 😜

I loved "The Villa" by Rachel Hawkins, then I got "The Wife Upstairs" by her from the library and it was so awful, I could not finish it. I am still looking forward to "The Heiress" though! The "Daisy Darker" reveal was a big disappointment to me. Total cop out. It was like the "and then she woke up from the dream". It might as well have been the dog.

Great that you are back, I was starting to worry (then I slapped myself and said 'Sara has a life!'... now get off social media (me). So 'go you' for taking the time out.) You have a great group of books to read for the prize.

Good to see you back. Social media can be so draining and hard on my mental health so I'm pretty selective now. I do have some Jane Austen books and really need to start reading some of them. I liked Daisy Darker and the one major twist I liked - the motivation of certain characters was way too much of a stretch for me. I think I gave it a 3.75 or 4 star. I'm presently reading the 2nd book in the "Thursday Murder Club" and loving it!

Buddyread, we are reading...what ARE we reading?! LOL That was great. I like the annotated versions of Austen's books. How is your cross stitch coming along?

I totally agree about Barbara Kingsolver. Her writing is soooo beautiful. If you haven’t read The Poisonwood Bible or The Bean Trees, I highly recommend!

I do like the Suspense or thriller genre but will read almost anything ( maybe not science fiction fantasy lol)

Paige was obsessed but at least she took action, Cora was in denial, but really would have been like Paige. Georgia was good for saving, a few stereotypes & cliches in this book lol

Sorry I missed the live, I am from Australia. Agree about the narrator...a shocker! 3.5 stars for me. Second half definitely better. Some implausible bits, quite a few lol. She should have added a 'special' ingredient to the hamburger helper for her husband and then she wouldn't have to worry about the prenup 🫢. Sara I hope your neighbours aren't watching! They were all pretty horrible.

I love this list! I am adding Moon of the Crusted Snow and Drowning to my TBR. I really enjoyed The Measure as well! I thought it could be a silly book but it ended up being much more meaningful.

I've been eyeing the Covenant of Water and may just have to check it out. Hope you have a wonderful New Year!

I did like demon copperhead but my problem was i compared it too much to David copperfield which is one of my favourite ever books..

I do like Jane Harper - I think Force of Nature was one of her best. Yay! Moon of the Crusted Snow and Demon Copperhead. The Measure sounds weird in a good way. It reminds me of the YA book Numbers. All year I've thinking I would either love or seriously dislike In Ascension. Great list!

This was great, I'm so undecided on if The Measure is a book I would love or hate, and just when I've decided I wouldn't like it you've got me reconsidering. You've pushed covenant of water up my TBR, that's for sure.

Aw, it may make you dislike Yellowface even more, but you know I loved it. It's nice though that we can respect each other's opinions. I haven't read the other books you mention. Peace!

Everything you said about Yellowface is exactly how I felt! I wouldn’t have minded a longer book that more deeply focused on the issues she brings up in the first half of the book rather than so much breakdown of the main character’s Twitter activity. The second half of the book felt horribly rushed to the conclusion as if the book had a page limit it needed to fit into. Having read Babel, I know Kuang could absolutely have written a much better ending.

I am a new subscriber. Loved your descriptions of your hated books. I was ready to put The Surgeon on my wishlist based on the synopsis and then changed my mind really fast. 😂 I do like Peter Swanson and don’t remember the cringy sex parts but I totally agree that a narrator can ruin an audiobook. The Writing Retreat never sounded appealing to me and your review cemented that for sure!!!!
