In-house Talk: Ashtanga Yoga - A path for transforming oneself and the world - 21st June 2024
Ashtanga Yoga, or the 8 limbs of Yoga, is a path that invites a practitioner to enter a journey of deep healing and transformation. The essential purpose of Yoga Sadhana is to free us from Duhhka, suffering, and grow as human beings. Unfortunately, what has remained in the world today, is a popular and limited identification of Yoga as physical or breathing exercises. It is either this or an idea that is an esoteric practice for those who wish to renounce this world and pursue an ascetic life. Then the question arises whether Yoga has something to offer us, regular householders, and the world we live in. What possibilities does it hold for the growth and evolution of the individual? How can it influence and guide us in creating a better world?
In this talk, Apoorva Gupta Jalan, a long-term yoga student and teacher in the Krishnamacharya Yoga Tradition, will walk us through the journey of Ashtanga Yoga, its invitations and gifts. She will also take us through some simple, effective practices using breath, sound, and body to experience a moment of Yoga, i.e. a state where the mind is quiet and the heart is clear.

Ravana Chhaya is the name of the shadow puppet play tradition of Odisha. Rama is considered the ‘Parambrahma’. The belief is that Parambrahma does not cast shadow, as shadow is impure and thus the name Ravana Chhaya has been used. All the puppets are made of a single piece of leather. The characters are first drawn on sheets and then are fixed on the piece of leather. The finer lines are then s...

I have a funny feeling inside me. The sound of silence began when I started meditation. In my ears I hear a melodious sound and towards the center of the brain I hear a high pitched sound. The strange sensations I wanted to talk about just like the sound of silence gradually appeared. It's like a pulse. Can you please inform me?

Namaste Thank you so much INTACH , shruti & Apoorva Ma'am for words of wisdom. You are doing great work to keep our great tradition alive. I am studying occult / spiritual science out of my personal interests & would like to express my thoughts , pls. forgive me for my ignorance. Initially I began my journey way back 35 years back , without internet obviously yoga was only obvious choice through popular books. With explosion of internet I got attracted to TCM , Daoist / Taoist , Buddhist philosophies & western analysis of both. My personal observation is as following -- 1) May be origin of all east asian philosophies mentioned above have there origin in india 2) Since yoga & tantra has originated many thousand years back when earth was very different than now , 3) Most of yogic texts are cryptic , secretive having multiple meanings to each word intentionally created to keep ignorant seekers away from potentially dangerous path. 4) Most of the books , speakers only cover theorotical mental , intellectual or merely philosophical aspects of yoga ~ there are very few individuals who have demonstrated real power of yoga beyond mere body excellence. 5) On the other hand TCM (traditional chinese medicione ) has evolved in past few hundred years and is more relevant as it is addressing issues of this century. 6) Ancient indian knowledge has been lost ~ many books have been destroyed or lost on the other hand in tibet or china they are preserved and further enhanced by monks & seers. 7) A simple example -- Ayurveda only works on gross elements like Kapha , pitta , vata etc. , TCM goes on far more advanced level it works directly on chi ( prana or subtle energy) also considering jing (DNA or ojas) and shen ( tejas or spirit) .So a TCM doctor can diagnose a patient in 15 seconds by observing his breathing nadi , his shen ,his aura etc. 8) Now its evident that prana & akasha holds every secret (quantum mechanics has acknowledged power of space too) , while Buddhist & taoist cultivation practices directly address development of chi (prana ) its origin etc. 9) Nearly 100 % youtube videos on pranayam are theorotical . Far few peoples know real nature of prana , breath & actual pranayama 10) There are very few peoples to demonstarte yogic powers practically as no one meets even basic perquistives like a) physical , mental , emotional , karmic purity b) balancing of ida & pingala c) Suspension of external breath for hours or at least 10 minutes ~ only then actual internal embryonic or subatomic cellular breathing starts. 11) Western scohlers have dedicated there lives in research & there interpretation is far superior . In the wake of this I would like to make request to make more indepth videos covering true nature of prana & akasha alone . I would like to thank for "Nada Yoga- Vibrational Yogic Science - 21st June 2018" video which has covered important insight. Thank you/

Soul is sounds not music, 5 selected uplifting sounds starting with sound of the bell.. then soul is beauty also, love, intuition, joy and bliss.. I think people don't know that there was extensive Indian record-keeping just as substantial as the British. We still have crores of records still in the Peshwa daftar as extensive as any European state. The British in fact wholesale copied land records and other documents from the Marathas after taking over their territory. After the fall of maratha state most of the records were no longer kept but we still have a large number of them still available. Maratha record keeping was not as extensive as the British but the gap between them was pretty small.
