The one time I bought film from Amazon was when Fuji Superia 400 was being discontinued and I was trying to get my hands on some before it was gone. Everything in the listing showed the old made in Japan stock, but I got sent the new Fuji 400 anyways. Not only did I overpay, when I went to shoot a roll a month later I found that the 3 pack only had 2 rolls. Never again.

Hey Romping Bronco! Thanks a lot for your videos. I did this myself and I was able to fix the sticky lever. However, I still have the infinite rewind problem. If I remove the mirror box, push the lever to load it mirror, then push the release lever, it works nicely. Putting it back on the body and adding the rewind mechanism and lever back, it seems that the "cocking lever" at the bottom of the mirror box doesnt seem to catch the lock if I cock with the rewind lever. Any ideas or tips? Have a nice day!

I agree on pretty much all of that. Freestyle has a good selection at a good price. They are also one of the few places where you can get 100 foot bulk rolls. Their Arista EDU is Foma, but a little cheaper. Fotoimpex Berlin often has some films that we don't get here in the States. However, if you are outside of Europe then the tax/shipping/customs should be factored in. Unless you are buying a lot of film, say a dozen rolls or so, it's probably not worth it. And good job FPP for keeping some films available that have fallen by the wayside for the big guys.

  • @Andratos95

I have a problem that I can explain like this: 1) I tried cocking the shutter with the advance lever and sometimes it just fires the shutter automatically without even pressing the button (or should I say it “twitches the shutter” as I don’t think it even properly opened). 2) After a while, the lever jammed and it was impossible to cock the shutter. Is this a typical problem?

Walgreens had 8$ rolls of Kodak UltraMax 34exp and it was great, especially in a pinch. I read they recently raised the price to $13 so wah wah to that. Great while it lasted! My local shop where I get dev done sells Gold 34exp for $10 so that's my go-to going forward. I am a slow shooter and 1 roll can take me over a month to finish.

So one thing I wonder if younger people are aware of... do you folks know that the two species of 100ISO Velvia were quite heavily criticised by Velvia fans when they came out for not matching up to the massive saturation of Velvia50? They did have the advantage that you can shoot pale skinned people without their skin turning into ground beef. But they aren't the Velvias that the photography world fell in love with. Don't get me wrong, your pics look really great (although I'm surprised at the green cast which may be a feature of them being expired?) and you're not wrong to praise this film. But if you can get your hands on some, folks, shoot a roll of Velvia50 and see what the fuss was about. Just probably don't use it for portraits of people with really fair skin. I am impressed by your run and gun with an auto camera full of Velvia. I'm planning on shooting out the few rolls of Velvia I have left and I'm definitely thinking that chess board stuff. I'm testing my Nikon F100 to see if it's still leaving tramlines on film because I really want to use my most versatile camera with Nikon lenses rather than my Pentax MX which I'm happier to use for less critical stuff - with Velvia I really want to emphasise that sharpness. But yeah. Fuji Velvia and Provia were definitely the tastier choices back in the day. And they still are. When you learn their strengths and how to shoot to preserve highlights blowing out and all that stuff they are so great. And Provia is even a damn good film for people and portraits. Just look at some National Geographics from the '90s.

2:07 the aperture doesn't change with frame size. If you used a light meter for exposure and say you were shooting 400 speed film at 250th of a second... you could shoot both this camera and a 35mm camera both at F/1.7 and they would both have the same exposure. The depth of field would also be the same as long as you didn't back off the half frame camera to try and achieve the same framing

  • @pleiadianfrequencies

I have a second SR505 coming in the mail! Still, not a fan of the double needle metering system, but got used to it after putting a couple rolls through the camera. It is an absolute tank! Lovely lenses, mine came with the 50/1.7 and I immediately got 28/2.8 (my favorite for street shooting), and also 58/1.4 and 135/2.8 for portraits, so my whole spectrum is covered. And I agree about the shutter sound! I thought the K1000 sounded lovely, until I heard the SR505. It makes the K1000 sound robotic. If the SR505 had the exposure meter needle design from the K1000, that would be a perfect camera for my needs. I yet have to figure out how to turn the ON/OFF switch with sweaty fingers! Whomever designed that thing was probably trying to prevent inadvertent turning ON of the camera. Well, they absolutely succeeded. This switch thing is a @#$% to try to move without digging my finger into it. Still, if you can find a pristine copy of the 202/303/505, you will love it. I know I do.

I have super cheap crappy ones but want to upgrade so a video going into ins and outs would be useful.
