Is Jacinda available to answer why she held back $500 million made from taxes for infrastructure and never used it? And while shes at it, why did we have to deal with ram raids because "rights to be free and make choices" were going to be abolished in 2025? Best we all admit that NZ is actually shit. Our tall poppy syndrome needs to stop so we can do better. Labour, National, Greens, Act, NZ First and all the other dopey parties blink lies...just watch their eyes during interviews. NZ sucks

$70,000 today is worth the same as $64,000 in April 2021. Failing to adjust tax brackets to keep up with inflation has pushed around 40,000 people from the 10.5% bracket into the 17.5% bracket, about 187,000 people from the 17.5% bracket into the 30% bracket, 161,000 people from the 30% bracket into the 33% rate, and about 18,000 people from the 33% rate into the new top 39% rate. This is a tax by stealth and is dishonest. No wonder Labour won't adjust the brackets. It is all tax, tax, tax as they have no clue of how to generate wealth any other way.

It is interesting that on the Labour sites, we can still leave our comments. National has turned all comments off. Luxon is a businessman and doesn’t understand what is involved in being a politician, let alone being PM. He refused to go on Maori TV and be questioned about how he would deal with ACT’s demand he hold a referendum to decide if the Treaty should remain our founding document. When you’re CEO, you can decline media scrutiny, but as PM you need to show transparency. We are in for a difficult ride until we can rid ourselves of this plonker.

  • @bigjim199

It is a well-documented fact that both National and ACT have received a significantly larger amount of funding in big money donations than Labour. These big money donations are used to pay for advertising which is in turn used to win votes. Big money donations allow the rich and wealthy to wield massively disproportionate political influence. National and ACT openly benefit from this blatantly anti-democratic practice. I think that this is a cause for concern. Such practices allow the wealthy to dominate the political system. Such practices encourage political parties to keep in mind the interests of the big money donors who fund their campaigns. This practice undermines democracy by giving the wealthiest few enormously disproportionate political influence. National and ACT may reject the idea of disproportionate political influence for Māori, but they embody disproportionate political influence for the wealthy. This disproportionate influence is a serious problem for those of us who want a democracy that is not dominated by a singular class. Why are we not spending more time talking about this blatantly un-democratic practice?
