This is astoundingly good, I've not seen a better mix of new material and perfectly chosen crowd-pleasers. It's a metaphor for the band, just enough tongue in cheek conformity for fans and a carefully computed dose of Ron's immense creativity. Something for the girl with everything, and an ideal tonic if she's had enough of Zappa's ruthless eclecticism.

You missed one when going over "See the Constellation". The very first line of the song is directly lifted from "Poor, Poor Pitiful Me" by Warren Zevon.

For the John Henry album, there's a couple of song references that might have bmslipped through the cracks, though they might not have been intentional. And I doubt I'm the first or the last person to point it out in these comments, but here they are: Spy - the song sounds like a parody of "Secret Agent Man" as some of the chord structure is very similar to it; as it is, the whole song seems to be a pastiche of spy movies in general. Thermostat - though I have doubts that Linnell and Flans had deliberate intentions to reference it in the song, it bares significant similarities to the Genesis song "Turn it on again", especially in the chorus when Linnell sings "turn it up, turn it down", and especially with the odd time signature (10/4 time). Another thing I find interest about TMBG's music in general, especially after watching this video, is how much their music was influenced by African-American poetry and music. To this day (other than that clip of Sharon Jones warming up in "Whithered Hope"), there have not been any black performers credited in the liner notes for any of their albums (if I'm wrong, please do correct me). But it's good to know that it influenced a good portion of their sound.

hello yox, ive been trying to contact you about your car's extended warrenty

I was privileged to go to two of these Smile shows in Southern California. Two of the best shows I've ever seen by any artist. I got a bit misty at times during the set as we witnessed Brian's long-delayed dream come true on stage! I purchased this DVD but I think I only got to watch it once on a very low quality screen on my desktop computer. The camera work here is impeccable! Instead of it being random, it's focused on what the viewer probably would want to see at that point of the show (a voice, an instrument, a sound effect). Brian and the whole band are really into it and don't miss even the smallest detail. This was a great time to be a Brian Wilson fan!
