He did well. IT is not a normal bike by any stretch... especially the shifter being on right, brake on left for Mike Hailwood. I commend him for even riding it- it is a precious machine.. to him.. and to all those who honor the Legend. I commend his son for bringing it out. I know I couldnt of..if I was the owner of the bike, not even related.,

Oil on track at corner entry (see the oil on track flag being held up) so he stood it up and tried to not lose it under brakes, you can hear the bike lose grip for a moment as he tries to stop.

The speed that he scrubbed in the last 2 seconds is bloody amazing for ancient drum brakes......this could have been Soo much worse!!

Wouldn't say you "made a mess" of the bike. Iv'e seen a few riders somersault over that wall and end up in the garden! You done the right thing by lifting it up, and scrubbing your speed, especially in the wet. You saved the bike from a possible roll. Watched your dad at my first TT in 78, what a rider, what a race!!!

Before anyone goes dissing Dave it's the 500 Honda the R181. Like he says earlier he is his own man and no one can compare to his Dad.... give him a break for god's sake unless you can do any better....

Hello Dave. I seem to recall that your father had a frame built for the RC181 here in the UK by a well known specialist (whose name I can't recall) and that this improved the handling somewhat. I know you say it is the same as the 'original', but do you know which frame is 'replicated'. If it is the Honda original, that MUST be a scary ride! All the best!

@141discodave I think you did a great job. You didn't panic and you - bravely - stayed on the bike and saved it from much more serious damage. Most people would have baled.

Leave the man alone!! I seem to remember the great Luigi Taveri nearly stacking the famous Honda 6 during a TT demo lap. These are really race machines with proper racing history, just like the track they are on. I wouldn't blame anyone for having a go. I was at the TT this year and the most interesting views during the parade lap for me were the guys going for it, even Hutchy with a bird cage on his leg!!!

And all of these people making comments probably CAN do it! Not! The engine died before the crash for some reason. Maybe there were other issues. Go and search out the big crash Sammy Miller had a few years ago. Now that one seemed to be big FAIL.
