Love watching your videos, it is good to get someone else perspective on different topics, I have a International, Mahindra and a Massey Ferguson, the international and the Massey Ferguson, I will restore.
Feature length goodness. Thank you for sharing.
Its really coming along, considering it was free, thats an amazing result.
@@oilyragsgarage7200 there’s life in the old girl yet - but it’s not going to be a hard working thing. Just a little trailer dragging and stuff. Parts on back order for radiator, but I can put them in out in the big shed.

love these old tractors.... thanks
@@paulgriffin5572 I have a whole collection. Sometimes they all run! This one might even start tomorrow.
I have a international 564. Its a beautiful tractor and works great with the exception of the PTO slipping when using the slasher in long grass. I pulled the PTO box off the machine to adjust it the other day as I don't have the original adjustment tool. The plates looked like they were fully adjusted unfortunately.
I’m still learning about these ones - mine until now have been small bore/stroke and sub 50hp. This week I’ve picked up 3 in the plus 50 pony range and they are way different. Exciting times.
@@humpty7457 Good stuff that will keep you busy!
Im so excited to see these builds.
Just have to clear a small backlog first! There’s already one in the shed that is crying out for some love.

Thanks so much for the video. I have to replace the PTO shaft on my IH B414 as the end sheared off. Anyways, was able to remove the old shaft and new one just arrived. I have struggled with installing the new one, finally removing the lever to get a better view of the lineup. For some reason the coupling that the engage/disengage lever would set in along the PTO shaft is too far forward (toward the engine). It looks very similar to how your video looked at the 17:35 mark of your video. How were you able to get the coupling to slide over the end of the 8 spline end of the PTO shaft, like in the 19:40 mark of your video?
@@morganhall9917 I’ll have to take a look again - been a while!
@morganhall9917 Once the teeth are in alignment it should slide right back there, another person maybe could be rotating slightly while you are trying to pry it back. It is much nicer to work on with the fender off, could even remove the tire. I've had the shaft out and took a long piece of ready rod and was able to grab the coupler and I ended hammering it partially onto my slightly twisted inner end of the shaft and ended up running it for months that way, not being able to disengage, I would unhook pto when starting cold, shut tractor off after a bit, rehook pto, and restart, lol. well after one session of running my newly acquired flail mower the coupler slid forward and disengaged and now I've had enough of that setup and so today I am taking the shaft out and ordering a new one to fix it right. You could also go in and grab the coupler like I did and have it on the shaft when you install the shaft, but you wouldn't want to do that if you're that close.
I use a piece of 4 x 4 angle iron, about 4 " long. Round the corners. Put one edge between the rim and the tyre so the angle iron is like a house roof. Then thwack the flat side with a sledge hammer. Work your way around a bit. Hit the angle firmly and square on to avoid it leaping up and hitting your forehead..
A bit of oil on the thread helps heaps. I have a collection of these small international tractors . Simply reliable machines .
Like watching your videos, I have a B275, they look the same and the topics that you are working on atm are so helpful.
I also have a b275. Many pieces can be swapped, but rarely the bits I break!!!
@humpty7457 good to know Humpty, I did not realise the tractors had a disc brake system, I need to go to swap meetings and get a manual on them 😀
Wow Mr H, you haven't messed around. Well done with the liner, OK a bit of a fight but you got it without damaging it. It's hard to say looking at a screen if the liner is OK or has a pinhole but as you say, nothing really lost. It also gives you the opportunity to look at the web at the base of the liners and satisfy yourself it's sound ( which it is ). I would do exactly as you have and put a new liner in. Herbie is a great tractor and well worth the effort you are making.
beauty
I take it the "A" is the Aussie built version? I'm in the states and have inherrited dad's B414 diesel- the steering is very sloppy and I know one day I'll be digging in the box.
@@Jethrosgarage A should be for Amazinghowmuchswearingyoucandotryingtogetthedamnthingrunningbetter.
Have you forgotten what flying springs can do? 😊 Lock grip pliers or similar are much much safer
Sadly that liner has rotted through from behind. It will have to be replaced by removing the sump then undoing the conrod cap to allow the piston to come up and out. You might need to make a rudimentary puller using some steel strip about 2" x 1/2" and some M16 threaded rod. The liner skirt is very thin so if you bash it from below with a bar and big hammer, there is a danger of breaking lumps off. Try it, gently, as you might get lucky and the liner tap up. Sometimes they play ball and sometimes they don't!
Hey mate - silly question - what makes you think that? I’m not sure and it’s cleaned up okay. Changing a liner isn’t in the plan, but if it’s rooted, it’ll just add to the fun and I can get them individually. I’ve got a puller from when I did a JD2010 recently I can use - 1/4 turn on the threads every 15mins. Didn’t take long to make them move. Bashing things with hammers is a speciality…..
@@humpty7457 I was going by the rust and the coolant being in the one pot without any sign of the head gasket having failed, plus my experience of working on those engines. They can get much worse - your block has happily not cracked between the liners. They also have a habit of rotting the bottom of the web at the base of the liner, allowing the seal to lift and water to drop through into the sump. Again, given the general condition of your tractor, I think your block will be fine. I prefer to use composite head gaskets opposed to copper ones these days, but again, either will do the job. Anyway, i enjoy your vids, keep up the good work.
@@skipmole612 sounds like I’m doing a liner! The tractor parts guy is going to like me this week…..
@@humpty7457 Why did you take the head off to begin with? Was it pressurising the coolant? What does the head gasket look like. The block top looks clean, what about the head face? Give the liner a good dose of looking at and maybe probe the rusty area with a fine pick to see if you can find a hole before to continue. Have you seen Canadian Redneck channel? Its presenter, Dave' is an expert on these and made a whole series of vids on 414.
There is a special place in hell for the design team that decided to put the steering column down through the fuel tan. Yes I own a B414 (petrol) for now. I’m selling my 1963 B414 and have replaced it with a 1986 Massey Ferguson 270 Diesel with a MF 236 loader with down pressure.🇨🇦✌🏻👍🏻

@@donvoll2580 I’m located just outside Hanover, Ontario. I’ve done a bunch this spring to my B414 to prepare it for sale. It has new plugs, points, condenser, cap and coil. It’s just had an oil change too. I’ve replaced the generator with a one wire alternator and converted it to negative ground, installed a new fan belt. Also, I’ve replaced the seals in the lift cylinders on the 1501 loader. I’m looking to get $3,100.00.
@@peterandersen1378 Yes I am from Elmira, waterloo area. That seems like fair price. Good luck Ths
thanks for taking us along. enjoy almost every episode. :)
I’m trying to make it a bit less talky talking.
The steering box is from a 434 and will not fit the 414 - it's one of the few parts which is totally model specific. The internals are not interchangeable so don't chop the 414 column. The other parts look good. Herbie is a great tractor, very sound and not seen a lot of work as demonstrated by the lack of wear on the pedals. Repro parts are available to repair your steering box and that is the way forward. The box fails because the upper bearing is above the oil filler plug, so runs dry. There is a small bung at the top of the column, which allows topping up using a force feed oil can. If you squirted in about 200 mls of oil, it would immerse the top bearing and increase its life. Hope this is useful and look forward to seeing how you get on.
The hydraulic leak is most likely the 20c o ring that lives in there 😇
Fix It Again Tomorrow
I've seen people pay a hell of a lot more for a far worse looking tractor, so I would say you still got a bargain and you'll have to call him Frank after Frankenstein. Well he is going to be made from different tractors...
Next job is source a new crank I suspect. Will get him into the shed and tear it apart and see what happened. The hot guess is a liner slipped and then the flywheel tore off the end of the crank. We’ll know in a few weeks. 👍
