This series was very much groundbreaking in Television in terms of Camera movement and blocking of scenes...the use of off camera lines and handheld photography was something that was shunned for years in TV, but this series made excellent use of it. Many primetime dramas like Hill Street Blues, LA Law, Law and Order, Toma were influenced by the fluid shot making and camera work and shotmaking. Apart from the subject matter...It's what separated this series from everything else that was on TV at the time.

Kaufman plays the heavy here, but you know he wanted to help Richie as much as Pete and Liz did. In the end, they all worked together to find a workable solution to make a positive difference for a great kid. That is what educators are supposed to do!! 😇

Mr. Dixon's demeanor was so outstanding! You can tell he really cared for his students. I just loved how he talked to his students like a teacher, a father, a counselor. Teachers like him are practically extinct these days! ❤

Did any demographic audience have an issue with the premise of this show? I'm asking because of the issue that the Black audience had with the sitcom, Julia, starring Diahann Carroll.

Yes. It was a model of classroom cooperation and what makes a good teacher. There were classrooms like this back then. Back when student to teacher ratio was much higher... It was the history and government classes that were a haven of free thinking and free speech.

Some very powerful performances in this first episode. A lot of conviction went into the writing. From today's perspective, American society seemed then to be changing for the better, but slowly. It's a stark contrast.

In 1969, I was 8 and KNEW that I wanted to teach. My friends and I mimicked Karen Valentine's hair and clothing. In 2000, after being an acute care nurse, I joined the nursing faculty where I had graduated and taught for 18 years. Now, I'm back in the frontlines in the hospital during a pandemic. This time, I teach patients how to take care of their broken hearts (and other body parts). Watching Room 222 tonight reminded me of our days of innocence in the U.S. American life is so ugly now. To the soul who posted the video, thank you for this little gift.

Even back then the writers of TV Drama saw school choice as a subject to advocate for. They saw district boundaries as an injustice and as a segregationist issue. Where are all the current "Woke" people on this topic? Of course the woke people would rather side with the self serving teachers union instead of doing right by the students. The wokesters have all of this talk but they are unwilling to help stamp out visible concrete prejudice.
