Morris Minor oil and filter change Classic Car a-series engine
Morris Minor oil and oil filter change.
This video will also apply to other classic cars using the A-series engine.
A brief video from a home mechanic on how to change the oil filter and oil on a Morris Minor. Use this video in conjunction with an appropriate workshop manual and your brain engaged.
Do not forget to double check you have secured the filter bowl and sump bolt. Bear in mind, oil pressure will need to build during the first few seconds of turning the engine over and the engine running, be gentle on the heart of your beloved Morris.
Always check for leaks around the filter housing and sump bolt;
A - after initial start up...
B - after an initial short journey...
C - periodically...
Sump drain bolt 19 mm socket (3/4 AF) torque setting not available
Filter bowl bolt 16mm socket (9/16 AF) torque setting 16lbf. ft.
(Apologies, video warbles on about a 14mm socket...)
The workshop manuals recommend oil changes every 3000mi and filter changes every 6000mi. With modern oils I'm content to leave oil changes to every 4000mi, but I do change the filter every time.
Oil; 20W50 classic (high zinc content), approx 6.5 pints (3.7l) which includes the volume of the oil filter.

Some PPE would save your hands, very informative video 👍
Great content Bristol Branch 👍
My minor had a new clutch before I purchased it, but it seems very heavy, could this be due to the linkage?
Couldn't see a thing with the camera pointing at the floor for most of the job
Great turn out. Might think about joining you one year. Not too far from Buckingham.
Does your car have the oil restrictor to counter the low oil pressure issues.
Welldone good sir. I have not done an oilchange and filter on the Traveller so I was a bit aprehensive about the filter as I am only used to modern spin-on filters. So the issue has been nullifiyed now. All I have to worry about now is finishing getting the battle beast back on the road...
Thank you, I’m pleased you found it useful 👍 I only do a few videos a year but intend to continue, keep an eye open for more vids. Good luck with your traveller…
I saw another video and they said 15pound is the tork setting
your channel is very good, and channel videos are very good. People are interested in watching your channel videos. But the videos don't reach millions of people, because there are some problems, Channel videos are not SEO optimized. On page SEO, and off page SEO not done. These are required to increase the channel. etc. then increase subscriber, Then it's time to monetize
Thank you for the feedback, I’ll look into it 👍
Fantastic adventure in proper cars
Thanks Paul, the cars behaved impeccably 👍
Lovely work, it would be great too see a master cylinder replaced in one of your future videos, also the replacement of top and bottom trunions just a sugestion cheers 👍👌
I tried to replace my top trunnion bushes today but just couldn't twist the top trunnion off to gain access to the 2nd bush. I tried an old screw driver and pry bar but no chance it was coming off. Any other tips?
Very helpful, thanks a lot.
Shame i ended up missing this one. Looks like you all had an enjoyable few days away. Great vidio Liam, especially the water crossings and music.
Great video! All the cars look awesome! Hope you all had fun.
Howdy?,great masterpiece- see you later-Mmoc!:))
Camera angle could have been better but a very helpfull video none the less...👍👍👍 Tom in Leeds.
I was struggling with where the spring goes. Now I know! Great thanks
didn't manage to twist the upright to get the second bush half off , would have been great to see it🙂 Any tips ?
Yep great info but spoilt by dodgy camera work
thanks but could do not much of the important detail
How long are your arms?
Hi I’m currently helping my granddad rebuild his but he can’t seem the get the spring on with out the pedal coming right forward and can’t remember how it went it seems like we’re missing something from the pedal size do you by any chance have an idea
Sorry I missed this question, I hope you got it sorted 👍
Your block paving needs a good clean, thats all you can see on the video !!!!!! camera work a bit poor !!
Extremely helpful video. Well done guys
Very good video. Many thanks.
consider the subscribe button smashed... you now need get producing some more videos!
Thank you so much, it is really appreciated!! We will have some more videos out soon.
finally a quality video on repairing the old moggy! keep up the good work!
I have to agree with Gerard Foster why did the clutch rod have to be changed in the firs t place ! good video but an explanation would have helped.
Thank you for watching, we're glad you enjoyed it. Unfortunately Alice's clutch rod snapped whilst out on a drive. Thankfully she wasn't far from home so her owners didn't have far to push her.
Followed this tutorial and successfully changed my own. Thank you for this video, made the process so much easier. Now I just need a video for changing eye bolt bushes without disturbing torsion bar.
That's amazing to hear, we're so glad this video has helped! That is certainly a future video option if someone in our branch changes them. Thank you for watching!
can i just ask why you needed to replace the rod? had it snapped
Thank you for watching our video. Unfortunately Alice's clutch rod snapped whilst out on a drive. Luckily the owners were just round the corner from their home so they didn't have to push her far.
Yay great video, looking forward to more 👍 keep posting.
Thank you very much!! We’re glad you enjoyed the video 😄
It would help to know if these new bushes were standard rubber or polyurethane as most people would probably be switching to the more durable poly bushes?
Thank you for taking the time to watch our video. I replaced the old bushes with the standard rubber instead of the polyurethane ones. In future I may try out the poly bushes and I would be happy to make another video showing these being fitted. I can imagine that if you were to use poly bushes then it would be near enough the exact same process to fit them. I hope this has helped.
Well done on your first video. You made this job look easy and I would have no fear doing it now which is the purpise of the video of course. Is there torque settings for the 2 nuts?
Thank you very much, we're over the moon that this has been of some help for you. When carrying out the job, I was unable to find the torque settings in the owners manual so I tightened them up almost as tight as I could. The split pin helps keeps them in place and upon checking a few times since, I can confirm they haven't moved. I hope this helps!
Would be good to see a video on button trunnion bush replacement. I’m dying for a decent video on front and rear wheel bearing replacements as well. I may or may not be listing what I need to do on my car ;)
They are certainly some great suggestions, we will see what we can do. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch our video!
Great to see this job on film 👍 it will be really useful for those owners that would like to look after their Moggies 🤔 but maybe need a nudge of encouragement 😀 please keep them coming 👍
Thank you very much for watching! If there's anything you would like to see us do then let us know and we will try our best to create a video .
maybe a rear diff oil seal replacement video?
Great video idea. Mavis will be getting a rear diff oil change soon so I will try and make the most of the opportunity and make a video about replacing the seal.
@@mmocbristol awesome!
when you were doing the job, the camera wasn't pointed at where you were working? would be useful to see where you are referring to. just an observation.
Thank you for your feedback, that's a very fair observation. This was my first time using a chest mount for the GoPro and I'll admit, some of the angles didn't come out as good as I had hoped. Moving forward, on future videos I will be ensuring that the camera is angled to give a better view when working lower down. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch the video!
@@mmocbristol i have subscribed as i own a 1970 moggy myself so these vids will help a lot
