I think it’s still magical realism because the realm of dreams is supposedly a real realm. Like the customers are all real people and the dream realm has real consequences for them. It’s like monsters inc if monsters inc is magical realism but idk lol

Actually yeah, now that you mention it, the summary really didn't do the best job of the book. I read it a few weeks ago and it (along with 9 perfect strangers) was my highlight of July. The translation kind of read like a teenager was writing fanfic and it was kind of cringe as a result. I gave it 4.75 because other than that though, I loved it so much that the writing didn't bother me as much as it normally would.

as an avid reader of Korean literature, i think this book is an excellent gateway to Korean literature as a first-time reader. a lot of Korean literature can be a hit or miss as a lot of (fiction) authors tend to focus on similar topics, creating different stories that somehow are all still connected by what is being discussed. this includes familial relationships, generational trauma and healing, societal inequalities, loneliness, etc. a lot of these themes also appear in Dallergut, but in such a cozy, light-hearted way which i loved! this is probably the best book by a Korean author that i have read so far, so it was really interesting to hear your opinions :) thank you for the review!

I got this book on BOTM as well. Unfortunately I gave it two stars, I was really disappointed. This book had so much potential in the beginning but it overall felt unfinished and unedited. The characters? Flat. The plot? Underdeveloped. The story line changed too many times to make sense of and the writing felt elementary. The last 40 pages were useless in my opinion.

This series has become one of my favorite SF series in recent memory. I can't wait for the final book. I don't know if you're much into audiobooks but you might want to try Moira Quirk's narration. She's quite good.

This was my July BOTM and started it today. I am already hooked. The writing style flows so well and I can not wait to really get into it to!!!! ❤❤❤

What are the pros and cons of the book if I may ask? As well as would you say the book is slow paced on the suspense? if you would like a next read by Ruth ware one of my top two favorite books by here were the women in cabin 10 which was her first book and the it girl which is very good

I just finished this book this morning. I think I prefer the first book (what moves the dead) but that doesn't mean that this wasn't a good read too. I can't wait to read the next installment!

I listened to a song when i was younger called "My Throat is an Open Grave" by Demon Hunter. I also liked the Labyrinth as a kid. I don't know much about new books that are coming out, but i watched.
