What you're calling the Aussie Trucker's Hitch is the knot which has been called the Wagoner's Hitch and then Trucker's Hitch in the US for at least 200 years. Truckers work by the job; not by the hour, so they don't have time to tie (and untie) those slip knot hitches you see on this and other knot channels. They also don't have time to find the tie-off at the end like you showed. Truckers pinch the rope at the loop and tie a slipped half hitch followed by a half hitch around the loop formed by the slipped half hitch.

Excellent. Was using the one where you double the cord, put a larks head on the end, and pass each loose end through the larks head on opposite directions. This is much better as you use half the cordage and have a quick release too. Love it.

I like this one. The loop part stays in place when there's tension on the rope. With some knots the loop pulls out easily.

Try putting the working end through the loop in the same direction as the bight on the last one.

I've always called this a slipped packers' knot and used it for bed rolls and the like. I'm surprised no one else knows it by that name. Am I wrong?

I like it, but it does come loose when the line is grabbed. I think that was addressed at the end with the additional hitch. I just wish more attention was paid to that as it was done very quickly and was obscured by the hand.

This is an interesting knot, but if you have more time then instead using a loop at end of rope and a taut line hitch end of rope will allow a bit more compression because the knot you use creates extra friction on the rope.

If you use a Paracord it will do but if you use hemp rope then its much harder to release

I learned the square knot as "right over left, left over right". If you do the first one twice as shown here and then left over right you have a "surgeon's locking knot" that will not come loose. Some folks will replace their laces with paracord but I did it with "Survivor Cord" which has extra strands of waxed jute, fishing line and snare wire. Those laces stay stiff due to the wire and hold their shape no matter what.

Thank you for demonstration of the auto locking version with a prusik! On multi-day trips the rope inevitably gets infected with dirt and tree resin and a task of releasing the bite loop while dismantling the ridge line could become quite laborious . Prusik loop solves this issue perfectly. Also, your algorithm of autolock allows to tie the hitch easily regardless of how long's the rope - without extra step of pulling the whole working end through the bite loop. In the filed it helps to keep the rope in better conditions. Thanks again!

It's a figure eight stop knot but with a bight. The working end is passed through as shown and when tightened, the figure eight bites it and is easily released with the bight. Genius at play.
