The Leyland 680 ticking over slowly is music to my ears. I was in graduate training at Leyland Motors in 1966-68, and the only engine which ran more slowly was the 200 bhp Power-Plus 680 fitted with the CAV H-type hydraulic governor, installed in the Semi-Automatic Beaver 32 ton gcw tractive unit type 14BT.28AR. It idled at about 300 rpm (does anyone have a driver's manual?) and was as regular as a clock. Transmission was Pneumocyclic 5-speed with Eaton two-speed axle.
Could this be one of the refurbished ones fitted with the Rolls-Royce diesel? A Leyland 0.600 could not move that thing around empty, let alone loaded with something to pull or move.
Lovely Explorer ! Is she yours and still meadows and do you attend shows near London as I'd like to see her in action ? Keep posting cos I never get bored of Scammells !
My last name is named after that

It is a 6x6. Originally designed for military vehicle recovery.
My grandad was killed at halfaya pass, Egypt, in 1941, whilst driving a matador, he was the lead truck and took a direct hit from a bomber.
