There's a part of me that wants to forget this awful day but I cannot. It's been burned in my brain, my memory and I can't ever forget it. I have loved Samuel Barber's Adagio for strings years before September 11th occurred. It's the most beautiful piece of music I know. I've always loved it from the moment I heard it for the first time.

The coughs ruined it for me. 😷

I grew up in a musical household. Both parents were music majors. I was expected to be a tuba/guitar somebody. My major required me to take choir.I didn't care or know how to sing. First day in school I was scared shitless. This dude, no hesitation, said c'mon in and lets check your range. I insisted I didn't know how. No affect was apparent. He measured me up, assigned me, and 'lo and fukin behold choir was by MIIIIIIIIIIILES the most enjoyable thing I experienced at ASU. All because of This guy. This guy is good ass people, man.

I had the privilege of singing this in Pittsburgh at the St. Paul Cathedral in the seventies. We had a brilliant music director and organist. This is EXACTLY the way we sang it. The problem, as I understand it, is no one knows really knows how the composers of this era intended it to be sung. I don't know either but I really appreciate this rendition of it.

I've never seen many of those images used in your video, Craig. And I agree with others who have commented on the classical piece that perfectly accompanies the images: it's such a stirring piece that I've always wanted to identify; thanks for providing that info. I was lucky NOT to lose any family or friends on that day, yet I'm useless every year on that dreadful anniversary. I can't explain why, but I NEED to relive the fear and pain of that day by listening to personal accounts and watching video footage from that day. Perhaps as a way of experiencing what those more directly involved in all that horror felt, through EMPATHY. I'm in no way saying that I can EVER feel what they felt, or what the survivors and families of the victims continue to feel every day. I don't feel it's right to go about my daily schedule on that anniversary when thousands of families suffered such unimaginable losses on 9/11/01. Especially when, as a NJ resident, I live so close to Ground Zero. It's just my own way of connecting to the only indisputable we all share in this world: our humanity. Your audio-visual project helped me feel that human connection, again, on yesterday's 13th solemn anniversary. Thank you.
