How to get your Horses in Listening to your Leg in the Warm Up
zhlédnutí 94Před rokem
Here’s a great warm up exercise and tips for leveling up your horse’s understanding.
Thanks for the trailer loading tip. It would help to see how you tied the knot at that height. If you’re short that may be a challenge. Could you also show how the traditional tie up works and contrast how this method is better. Thanks and happy trails!
thank you so much
My first love is a gaited horse. I am so happy you are concentrating on teaching them to find and stay in their gate. Thank you! Subscribed!
When i try to lunge my horse she pins her ears and arches her neck. I am 5.1 and she is 15.2 hands so i get a bit nervous when she does this. Do you have any tips?
Head needs to be lower and Bob to get 4 beat gait, or else the back is hallow. Hold reins lower and open for them to drop head, release when they lower.
Love it ! I’m at this point with my young one right now so what perfect timing
Just subscribed. Finally a video of a horse that's not already ready for center stage
No thanks I don't need horses I'm out they scare me

Maybe ask a jockey how to stop a bolting horse because your way can brake his legs... So NOT TURNING OR CIRCLING...
This looks like me and my 2 mares. I’ve been trying to desensitize my Morgan and she typically has to be tied down almost to get warmer in her and now I have to give her a power pack. Wish me luck.
Begin turning it in a circle. Making the circles tighter.keep this up. Or use the pully rein. Pull 1 rein back against the withers. Keep pulling back. We use this on the hunt field sometimes to stop suddenly.
Absolutely agree with every word. Well done.
Nice trick. TY.
Very nice..simple..great...thanx
You are overthinking this. The mare should lead easily (all of your horses should halter and lead and load) Put a halter and lead on foal AND mare. Lead the mare and the foal follows. No trauma, no discomfort ... they follow the mare and get used to the feel.
Great advice, as usual, Matea! Thank you!
This is helpful, thanks, Matea!
Hi Matea, I enjoy your videos and riding and training tips. Only feedback is the sound is always very faint and hard to hear you even with the volume all the way up.
Love it! Thanks Matea 💛
Thank you SO MUCH! AWESOME!
Love all of your videos and training.
do you have Instagram
I just see going around a circle no real guidance on working thru the emotion or preventing your horse from pulling on you 😭
Nice work.
pr໐๓໐Ş๓ 😚
That’s a nice simple softening ! Love it
Thank you good video
Well, you'd be standing there with mine until you both turn to skeletons. He has all the time and patience in the world. 😆
Loved the patience you showed and your video reminded me of some tips I forgot. Thanks
I like your explanations. I always take something simple and over analyze it.
Question- won't that make his mouth hard if he keeps yanking himself by the bit? Also my pony just wants to turn to face me all the time.
I really liked that
Like it! So true.
it is far easier to teach it on a short side wall then advance to long arena wall instead of trying to do this in a circle - the lack of forward momentum is due to you disappearing from sight behind them. Instead, start behind them and have them solid on cues with reins before asking for lateral.
Hi Matea, I just adopted a 18hh Clydes and his head is very high especially when i put the parelli halter pushing down his head just to be able to tie the knott. Is your exercise can improve him? or do you propose something else? For your Question at the end of this video yes i'd like to see the whole process with Sally cause that's how learning the most. trial and error. Thx
That was a great idea to tie off in the next stall over.
Underrated this was very good thank you!
Great idea! And simple! I'll try it but I guarantee it will be hard for me the first few times. LOL!
Can I ask you how do I keep my legs still win I ride my horse thank you Nannette
This was so helpful! Thank you for making this video.
See I don't really view the leg as cheating... I don't quite understand how you're actually making her do the turn, she's stopping and you continue holding your hand, do you nudge with your leg at that point or are you giving gentle pressure with the direct rein? My goal with my horses is to get them totally onto leg pressure, but I do understand that isn't quite 'neckreining', although if I can get rid of mouth pressure, that's amazing!!
We just went your arena! your arena is such an AWESOME arena!
Have definitely noticed that a lot of horse owners don't take the time to disengage the hind quarters and make that horse turn and wait while they close the gate!! It's definitely good practice and can/should be done whenever and wherever! I do it when I bring them out of stalls, out of the trailer, in and out of gates, even untying from posts. It's just a great habit to get yourself used to doing so your horse finds it a natural thing to do. Consistency is very key. We've been training our almost 4 yr old since the day he was born and we get quite a few compliments on him. Good point to bring up,!✌️
Nice knee tall cowboy boots!! That brand are?
Apologies if it's just my eyesight coupled with shadowing in the video, but I was curious why you aren't using a rope halter with knots on new horses when lunging on the circle? A training halter has 4 knots over the nose and effectively communicates with proper pressure. I know everyone runs out and gets the overpriced C. Anderson one but there's a company based in WA state called Knotty Girlz and their halters and lines are as good, if not better. And like 1/2 the cost. Ladies are super kind on the phone and products arrive promptly. We made a permanent switch 2 yrs ago to rope halters with any ground work and just use the typical halter when leading to the field, transporting or showing. They make a fantastic difference and allow more effective communication between horse and human humanely. Horses are a lot more intelligent than most humans give them credit for, it's just about finding the bridge to open the line of communication between species.
👍👍👍👍👍
The TWH I walk often bows out. When I try to fix him, he doesn't seem to understand that he's supposed to move off of leg pressure. I guess he was never taught to move off leg by his previous owner. Idk how someone could live without obedience to the leg
My horse flips head up over and over. So much more difficult.
