Pink Floyd - Lucifer Sam SYD BARRETT

the lyric frequently refers to Lucifer Sam as a cat, some speculation has arisen as to whether this was in fact slang ("a hip cat") for a man, real or imagined, in some type of relationship with Barrett's then-girlfriend, Jenny Spires (referred to in the song as "Jennifer Gentle").[3] However, Sam was simply Barrett's Siamese cat (and is referred to as such in the first line: "Lucifer Sam, Siam...

1967... What an amazing year!

I love that this song is about a cat.
I am grateful I am too young to have been into the 60s psychedelic/acid rock thing. Not because I don't like the music. I love Pink Floyd. It's because of the cheesy hippy visual effects they used back then. I mean, come on man! That shit is retarded.
Jenny Spires bought him the Cat when she was his girlfriend.
This song benig made in 1967 is just crazy !! So before its time
Good music Syd barrett really máster
I seriously believe the "spy" riff from The Pink Floyd's Lucifer Sam (recorded at EMI Abbey Road Studio) influenced John Lennon's Hey Bulldog riff. No, it's not the same groove, but the chromatic "spy" feel is similar. The Pink Floyd were recording Piper at the Gates of Dawn at Abbey Roads while The Beatles were in an adjacent studio recording Sargent Pepper's.
James Bond through the pipers of the gates of swinging 60s.
Sid's voice takes you to heavenly realms. I have never done acid etc. RIP
Piper is a fantastic album. Most 60s debuts were flooded with old blues covers (Beatles, Stones, The Who, etc), but Pink Floyd's first album was entirely its own. Great listening if you're in the mood for "exploring."
good point
Happy 75th birthday to Syd! We're preparing a nice cover of one of his classics on the upcoming 2nd album by Outer Park. Beach meets punk meets Bjork, I guess. We hope he would have approved. Enjoy the preview! czcams.com/video/I7HXatzAFH8/video.html
Lyrics : Lucifer Sam, siam cat Always sitting by your side Always by your side That cat's something I can't explain Ginger, ginger, Jennifer Gentle you're a witch You're the left side He's the right side Oh, no That cat's something I can't explain Lucifer go to sea Be a hip cat, be a ship's cat Somewhere, anywhere That cat's something I can't explain At night prowling sifting sand Hiding around on the ground He'll be found when you're around That cat's something I can't explain
Hey kids the girl at 1:45 is your grandma. I bet she’s still groovy today.

Syd the best man
Much as I prefer the more widespread appeal of Gilmour, the Syd Barrett years were wonderful... this sounds like a Sixties' Spy theme on acid... love it.
Reminds me of Batman. Lol
I prefer Syd Barret's era over Gilmour
I would say this riff is the quintessential surf rock and spy theme. It’s what I think of for both of those sounds.
There's obviously a lot of escapees from a teaching college there. 😂
Doesn't matter from whence you escape, just that you MAKE the escape.
