Wild Meadows Paddock Paradise: Why Friends are Important
zhlédnutí 530Před rokem
Jaime Jackson's Paddock Paradise method of boarding horses focuses on 3 main areas: having dry forage available, not being stalled and having plenty of room, and living in a herd. This sweet little video focuses on the "friends" aspect of this method.
Tour of our Wild Meadow's Paddock Paradise 2020: First Year

Paddock Paradise is a horse boarding method developed by Jaime Jackson after studying wild mustangs in the Great Basin. A true "Paddock Paradise" doesn't have grass. However, I'm focusing more on the length of track at this time.
Combining Behaviors

Once you've used positive reinforcement to train simple behaviors, you can then combine them into more complex behaviors. Here, Athena is being taught to move into position near a fence, allowing me to easily climb aboard without a mounting block.
Standing Politely

I've commonly heard horse owners and trainers say that one reason they don't like using treats with their horses, especially during training, is they don't want the horse to become pushy or snappy with people. While this may happen with some horses that are given treats willy-nilly by anyone, without any specific behavior requested, trainers that use positive reinforcement methods start by teac...
Standing On Mark

Once you've introduced a new behavior to your horse, you'll then need to fine tune it or modify it in order to get the results you want. I like to call this "upping my criteria". In this video, you'll see that I am upping the criteria for the exercise "Standing on a Mat". Let me know if you've used a standing mat for your horse and how that was able to benefit you in other areas of horse care.

most of the track is just dirt from the grass being trampled down, in smaller places I have patches of pea gravel, but just like in their feed runs and then a small section randomly on track

Your center looks amazing! I retired my horse to a place that uses the Paddock Paradise track system (but quite a bit smaller). Wish there were more places that did this. It's so good for the horses.

What happens when it’s wet and muddy? Do you keep them on dry lots?

Hi there, what is the post waterer that stays clean and doesn't freeze? Thank you for the video!

  • @kristinastoltzfus6032

Very nice! Do you ever have one horse run another through the fence? We have a problem in the big pastures with this and I am not sure ours wouldn't be going through fences all the time.

The goal with the track is to not have any dead ends. That way a horse always has a way to get away from another. In the areas where they hang out together a lot, I make those parts of the track wider.

Hi there, I used horse guard fencing. Sleeves to go over tposts and then their poly tape electric fence.

What posts did you use for the electric ribbon/tape? Anybody know?
