BMW R80 - Ride Review - Hoske Exhaust Sound - Walkaround
A ride on review of my 1984 BMW R80. I should also so, I'm not a vlogger, reviewer, just a guy who loves his bikes.
Raw hoske exhaust, the audio clipped a bit. The microphones were turned down as low as they would go, it's just that loud ;)

A quick update on progress with the R80! New Hoske pipes and straight headers on.. sounds amazing. You do give up a little in the mid range without the crossovers, but it gives the bike a much cleaner look and classic sound. A tour of the legendary Honda RC24 VFR750. This bike is often forgotten in the shadow of the amazing RC36, but for its time, this was one of the best bikes on the road. Still, 32 years later, it stacks up well against not only vintage bikes, but a lot of it's more modern equivalents!

I got the 750 slingshot instead and didn't keep it long. Should have got the VFR. I've got a '99 twin cam Harley low rider with brakes from '87. Looking at a MK1 VFR with 19k miles so came here for a look. Good luck with your channel.

Just purchased a white, 1991 VFR750 RC36 with 14k miles.. All original, including the seat cowl, side stand fairing, exhaust & super long rear fender (though it has a short one fitted) I love it.. should have bought one far sooner! I have 6 other 90s Sportbikes, but it’s the VFR keys I’m grabbing more often than not 😁👍🏼

Beautiful bike, although I would have gone with shiny black and pinstripe for the rear fender too, personally. Other than that, I have no complaints :D

I had a twin jet 100 in 1970. I loved this bike. I did fine out that if you go over 55 mph for 20 miles you will probably blow the motor.

Thanks for posting this vid. I'm looking to get back on the saddle after 6 years. I've had an R65, Triumph T100 and an R1150RT. Looking at something with a bit of age for historic plates so this bike seems to fit the criteria like a glove.....and so the hunt begins.

Brings back good memories of owning one the same as this from new. I forgot how good the motor sounds. Makes me question owning a GSXR750R slingshot (1988) now. Rode it today and my hands where constantly going numb from weight on them and vibration. Used to ride my VFR750 for hours and feel fresh, it wasn't considered a tourer when I bought it, but it make sense that it has become one.

I bought this bike 5 months ago from the person you sold it to a couple of years ago. It was described to me as being a nut and bolt restoration when he bought it. I do not know if he was naive as he described in his ad, in the same way he purchased it from you I was told. Maybe you both were naive. After receiving the bike it was clearly apparent this was not the bike I purchased as described in his ad. I also note in your CZcams review the previous owners effort of undertaking restoration. I have been restoring these particular airhead models for 20 years to a very high quality standard. The bike I received had been what I would describe as a tart up job. Seat not secured, no seat brackets fitted. Incorrect seat for the bike. Rusty main frame touched up with a brush, front and rear wheel bearings rusted by someone water or soda blasting the wheels hubs without removing or protecting them. Front brake master cylinder leaking, paint touched up to hide the damaged paint. Brake lines replaced with a stupid dual line from the master cylinder to the brake calipers. Ignition Coils moved forwards to allow fitting of the ignition black box to be mounted behind them. This causing the bike to stall due to the coils rubbing on the tank.I note in an invoice from a so called Sydney bmw expert, the owner mentions in it a rattle coming from under the tank. Their fix was to wrap the coils in cutdown foam stubbie holders. No idea. To remove the rear wheel had to cut off the left rear wheel bearing.Visual scoring on axle where the axle was hammered in. Incorrect wheel bearings fitted. Hazard wiring loom had removed by chopping off the loom where it enters the main wiring loom, and wires left bare. There are heaps more faults I can list. I have pulled the bike apart, and am currently completing a proper restoration on it. My word of advice when buying a airhead era bike is to be educated in them before spending your money. If I had the opportunity to see the bike before purchasing (not just pictures), I would have walked away. When I have finished the bike it will be properly restored.

Because it used to be an RT, it probably still has the RT final drive ratio Try exchanging the fd with one from an R80 or R80/7, so then you have longer gears

This was not a diminutive bike in its time. Because the riders were typically teenagers weighing less than 130 pounds this bike could give the average family sedan a run for its money. I had one. I got it up to 105 mph one day in ideal conditions. Scared the h_ll out of me, but I did it. Great memories.

Thinking of the moped I was given and finished (if it only had some gears...) the 2 stroke sound brings back memories of my buddy's 500 triple that we used to switch riding from my CB 750 to his bike ( we were always dead even in acceleration). I came upon your vid. Really nice, and what a pretty place to live too. Mike
